2011_SEC_CHAMPIONS-1 2011 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Champions 2011 SEC and NCAA Championship Trophies

We want YOU – the GymTide Nation – to join up in 2013 and help us support YOUR Alabama Gymnastics Team, the defending NCAA back-to-back Champions!

Yes indeed, the Alabama Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team enters the upcoming competition season as the defending NCAA Champions but will need all of our support through the Medalist Club to bring home more trophies in 2013.  First formed in 1987, the Medalist Club has seen its membership grow into one of the largest, most loyal fan groups in NCAA Division I Women’s Sports. To help the GymTide, we need to keep expanding our numbers and efforts on behalf of this great team of student-athletes, who not only claimed the NCAA team title in 2011 and again in 2012, but also posted a team GPA over 3.4 for the seventh year in a row and claimed their third consecutive Elite 88 Award (junior Rachel Terry) for the gymnast with the highest GPA overall.  Our coaches, Sarah and David Patterson, Bryan Raschilla and Dana Duckworth are hard at work in the practice gym with the ladies and want you to know that the support of this organization over the years has been absolutely critical to their ability to forge and maintain a championship program (six NCAA team titles, seven SEC team titles and counting!). But we can always find new and better ways to keep this support thriving, so please ponder some of the following “Tidebits” as you consider joining or renewing…

Let’s start with the 2013 Medalist Club Membership Drive. If you’re thinking about joining up for the first time or renewing your current membership, here are some important facts to consider:

  • You get to attend and enjoy the “Members Only” receptions that will follow three designated home meets during the regular season. This is the best way to meet and mingle with the gymnasts and coaches in a more personal way while relaxing with a tasty array of food and drink. Chat with fellow fans about the meet and prognosticate on the upcoming competitions. Learn more about becoming an active board member and see how you can contribute in more specific ways. It’s a great opportunity to greet old friends and make new ones as you follow one of your favorite Crimson Tide sports.

  • Depending on your membership level, you will receive a variety of benefits, including the 2013 (newly designed) T-Shirt to wear with pride to each meet as well as a pre-season newsletter that will provide detailed, informative perspectives on this year’s team along with a scouting report of the competition. The highly coveted Coleman Coliseum Parking Passes can be purchased at lower levels now and are included as part of the packages in the Crimson or above levels for 2013. Gold, Platinum and Ruby members will receive autographed 2013 media guides as well. The post-season banquet is also sponsored by the Medalist Club and each membership level will have one or more seats at the table, slated again for The Zone at Bryant Denny Stadium.  Check out the [table below] for more specific details regarding benefits at each level.

  • Your Medalist Club membership also benefits the Alabama Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team in more direct ways in the practice gym and the classroom. For example, the Medalist Club helped purchase the state-of-art Video Replay System for the Frances Smith Gymnastics Practice Facility, which allows the coaches to remain at their designated workout area with the gymnast while reviewing their practice routines on one of three large LCD monitors mounted around the gymnasium. This has greatly enhanced the coaches’ abilities to pinpoint and perfect routines with the gymnasts in a more timely manner. Other items purchased in recent years include a new vault, Game-Ready Machine and attachments for injury rehabilitation, furniture for the locker room and billboard advertising to help promote the GymTide locally and state-wide.

  • Last but not least, The Medalist Club is the only NCAA Division I gymnastics fan organization that provides post-graduate scholarships for eligible student-athletes to pursue their graduate degree at the Capstone. Recent recipients include Kassi Price and Morgan Dennis, who are also members of the 2009 SEC Championship Team

  • Thanks to all Medalist Club members who make these post-graduate scholarships and other means of support possible for the Alabama Gymnastics Program to succeed at the highest level! Roll Tide!
