Q) Tell us a little bit about yourself in general.
A) I am from Austin, Texas. I have a 13 year old sister and a 10 year old brother who live with my parents in Austin. I love movies , music, going out with friends, and shopping for shoes.
Q) How old were you when you started gymnastics? Where? Coaches?
A) I started when I was 7 at Capital Gymnastics in Austin, Texas. My very first coach was named Elizabeth.
Q) When did you determine that you were talented enough to compete nationally/internationally?
A) I never really determined that I was talented enough to compete at a certain level. I always just did my best and competed in the highest level that I could.
Q) Do you have a favorite gymnast? Who? What is it about that gymnast that you like in particular?
A) I don't have a favorite gymnast. I really admire gymnasts who work hard, never give up, achieve their goals, and have fun with gymnastics.
Q) What is your favorite apparatus? Why?
A) My favorite event is the balance beam. It's the event that comes easiest to me, and I love learning and trying out new skills.
Q) What was your best competition performance?
A) My best competition performance was probably in Mexico. I had a hard time adjusting to their equipment in practice, but when it came time to compete, I hit some good routines and ended up winning the competition.
Q) Favorite competition location?
A) My favorite competition location was San Francisco. I had a great time walking around and seeing all different parts of the city.
Q) Interesting travel experiences through gymnastics competitions?
A) When I traveled to Mexico, I had to communicate with people in Spanish. Giving interviews was quite challenging. But, it was a great learning experience.
Q) Tell us about your collegiate recruiting experience. Who recruited you, how many visits did you take, and at what point did you decide to attend the University of Alabama?
A) I was mainly being recruited by Alabama and Oregon State. I went on trips to both of those schools. I really liked them both, but I felt that Alabama would be the best place for me.
Q) What skills are you currently practicing and do you expect to contribute on each apparatus this season?
A) I have been practicing some new combinations on bars, a double layout dismount off bars, a round-off full mount on beam, and a few other new things. I don't know right not what I am going to contribute, but I will do all I can to help make a winning team.
Q) What are your academic and athletic goals for the upcoming season?
A) I want to maintain a good GPA throughout the year. I hope to be part of a successful gymnastics team that will be able to win many meets, including Nationals.
Q) Do you have a best and a worst experience involving gymnastics?
A) My worst experience was dislocating my elbow during a clinic. It was right before school started, and I couldn't write anything. I had to stay away from gymnastics practice for a few months.
My best experience was probably my first championship meet. The thrill of being on the podium, competing in front of a huge crowd, an just experiencing it all for the first time was a great feeling. |
