Q) Tell us a little bit about yourself in general
A) I'm from Pass Christian, MS. I have 3 younger brothers (Joseph, Charles and James). I walked on after coaching Bama Bounders for a year.
Q) How old were you when you started gymnastics? Where? Coaches?
A) About 6. Coast Side Gymnastics. Leigh Manly and Cynthia Ladner.
Q) When did you determine that you were talented enough to compete nationally/internationally?
A) Never, really. It just kind of happened.
Q) What is your favorite apparatus? Why?
A) I like them all equally. Most people think it's the beam because that's my best, but really I enjoy them all.
Q) What was your best competition performance?
A) 1998 Central Regional Championship - Balance Beam. I finally made it, through a routine in competition without wobbling.
Q) Favorite competition location?
A) L.A. The tourist attractions were great.
Q) Interesting travel experiences through gymnastics competitions?
A) I toured Germany my sophomore year in high school. We went to different national training centers over there and worked out.
Q) Tell us about your collegiate recruiting experience. Who recruited you, how many visits did you take and at what point did you decide to attend the University of Alabama?
A) I "retired" from gymnastics my Junior year in high school. I was coaching Bama bounders when I was "re-discovered" by then coach Scott Mackel. I came to Bama, I didn't want to go to school too close to home.
Q) What skills are you currently practicing and do you expect to contribute on each apparatus this season?
A) Pretty much the same skills as last year. Only hopefully better.
Q) What are your academic and athletic goals for the upcoming season?
A) I would like to make above a 3.5. In gymnastics I would like to compete the events I train.
Q) Do you have a best and worst experience involving gymnastics?
A) My best is the overall experience of being a part of such a great program and receiving all of the benefits that come with it. I guess the worst would be the injuries that come with the sport. |
