  • Led High Point to three consecutive Level 10 State Championships, 1993-95

  • Won the North Carolina Level 10 All-Around title 1990-1995 
  • Won the Level 10 Regional Vault crown in 1995, finished third in the all-around

Q) Tell us a little bit about yourself in general.
A) I come from a great and very supportive family. I am a big baseball fan. I am twenty-one years old from Greensboro, NC.

Q) How old were you when you started gymnastics?Where?Coaches?
A) 3 years old at the YMCA in Greensboro, NC. I started gymnastics with Rob Travers who ended up being my first and only coach before coming to Alabama. Later on Buddy Thorburn helped coach me as well.

Q) When did you determine that you were talented enough to compete nationally/internationally?
A) In the eighth grade. I was the first alternate to go to level 9 easterns, which gave me a lot of confidence to continue working hard.

Q) Do you have a favorite gymnast? Who? What is it about that gymnast that you like in particular?
A) Daniella Silivas (from Romania). I love her style and unlike a lot of the other higher level gymnasts in world competitions, she stayed around for a long time.

Q) What is you favorite apparatus? Why?
A) Beam. It comes easily to me and I don't mind competing on beam in front of large crowds.

Q) What was your best competition performance?
A) At LSU in 1998 (our dual meet with them). I scored a 9.95 in this meet.

Q) Favorite competition location?
A) Alabama - Our fans are by far the best of any school!

Q) Interesting travel experiences through gymnastics competitions?
A) The Mall of America

Q) Tell us about your collegiate recruiting experience. Who recruited you, how many visits did you take, and at what point did you decide to attend the University of Alabama?
A) Towson State University, University of New Hampshire, University of North Carolina (at Chapel Hill). I took visits to Towson State and U of A. I decided to attend U of A before I left to go home from visiting here.

Q) What skills are you currently practicing and do you expect to contribute on each apparatus this season?
A) Front-handspring front pike - Vault
Higgins to a pike jaeger; Giant-full to double tuck fly awas - Bars
Front - double full - Floor

Q) What are your academic and athletic goals for the upcoming season?
A) Academic - 4.0 for the semester
Athletic - Win a championship - either SEC's or NCAA's and most importantly have fun my senior year.

Q) Do you have a best and worst experience involving gymnastics?
A) Best ; winning Nationals my freshman year and in the fall going to receive our rings on the football field during halftime of the Vanderbilt game.
Worst; breaking 2 vertebrae my junior year in high school.
