We have the final scores
[ 9:06 AM, 03/01/02 ]
after a scoring protest on Natalie Barrington's routine on the beam was successfully concluded. One of the judges missed her element and agreed to the increase in her start value to a 10.00, final score of a 9.85. Bama finishes with a 196.700 despite a fall on floor from Brion and on beam from Rice (neither counted) and lackluster vaulting (too many steps on the landing). Auburn finishes with a 193.350 and lost Sally Cantrell perhaps for the remainder of the season with a dislocated knee. Cheryl Lancaster suffered a brutal shin burn on the beam (fell on her flight series)and there were a few falls for them on the floor as well. Shannon Hrozek wins the all around for the second week in a row with a 39.250. Andree wins two events (vault and beam), Shannon one (floor), and Natalie one (bars). She tumbled two double tucks with Bryan's spotting and a front handspring, front full to a front pike and some funky new dance moves. Welcome back Andree! See you next week in Kentucky Bama fans! ROLL TIDE and good night from Aubie's land.

Natalie Barrington
[ 8:37 AM, 03/01/02 ]
is now up on the beam for the Tide. Beautiful flight series of back handspring to a layout, followed by a switch leap to two straddle leaps. Beautiful cartwheel to a back handspring and her sissone to a Korbut is gorgeous. She dismounts with a gainer off the side of the beam (no movement this week!). Way to go Nat, you made your parents super proud tonight. Littrell gets a 8.85 for her floor routine. Clark is up on floor for Auburn and opens with a full in (tuck position) and her second pass of a 2 1/2 to a punch front is out of bounds but the judges probably missed it being so far away. Jeana Rice is looking awesome so far on the beam but she falls on her standing back gainer (ARGGHHHH!). Natalie gets a 9.75 and Coach Patterson is going to protest this one for sure. One of the judges had her start value at a 9.80, the other a 10.0! She had a flight series, a gymacro series, a three leap series and added bonus! We will keep you posted. Andree is up and is through her leap series. Great flight series as well. A wonderful punch front and she is dismounting with a double tuck (tiny hop backwards). Boyte gets a 9.875 for her floor routine and Mary Nell Pate is through her opening pass of a double tuck (landed low and deep at the knees). Andree gets a 9.925 for her awesome beam routine and Jeana a 9.275.

Shannon gets a
[ 8:33 AM, 03/01/02 ]
9.80 for her beam routine. Cannot tell you where the deductions came from other than a step on her dismount. Ali Martinez is up and through her flight series and her straddle Popa, as well as her wolf Popa. Nice full turn and a switch leap to a wolf jump. She dismounts with a running double twist. Stein gets a 9.05 for her floor and Brannon a 9.80. Littrell takes two huge lunging steps forward on her double pike landing (bent at the waist big time). Nice music, however. Alexa Martinez gets a 9.80 for her beam routine.

Auburn gets an increase
[ 8:32 AM, 03/01/02 ]
on the beam. Courtney Puckett gets a 9.625 (despite grabbing the beam) and Lancaster gets a 7.5 and Boyte gets a 9.200 for a total of 47.900. 145.150 is their running total.

Kayce Stein of
[ 8:29 AM, 03/01/02 ]
Auburn is up on floor to Classical Gas. Raegs gets a 9.875! Kayce Stein falls on her final pass (two fronts to a punch front). Shannon Hrozek is up on the beam for Bama and throws a very nice flight series, looking great so far on all her leaps and she will dismount with a double twist but takes a step back.

Alabama looks a little shaky on
[ 8:26 AM, 03/01/02 ]
the beam during warm ups. Let's hope they have a better performance. Raegan Tomasek is up first and she mounts with a punch front (tiny scoot forward). Her flight series is right on, man! Switch leap to straddle leap looks good as does her front walkover (tiny balance check). Super wolf to a 1/4 dive to handstand (held it for 2 seconds!). She dismounts with a back handspring to a gainer full off the side of the beam. Way to go Raegs!
[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek
[ 8:22 AM, 03/01/02 ]
is behind Jeana Rice in the all around by .05. Natalie just threw a cartwheel to an immediate back handspring on the balance beam (warm ups). Bama is throwing some new difficulty on this event as they did on the floor. Alexa Martinez is dismounting with a running double twist.

Stephanie Kite is finished
[ 8:11 AM, 03/01/02 ]
and salutes the judges with a big grin! That front through to a double twist (her opening pass) was landed beautifully. The freshmen are clustered around Bryan and are giving Alexis Brion encouragement for the final routine. Stephanie gets a 9.825. Lancaster gets a 7.575 for her beam routine and the Tigers will finish with Kristi Boyte on the beam. She throws her flight series but falls on the final element (layout). A nice wolf jump to side switch leap combination and she throws a punch front before dismounting with a gainer out of a round off. She receives a 9.15 for her routine. Alexis Brion falls on her final pass of a second double tuck. She was dancing to a different mixture of the Sandstorm track and had changed some of her dance moves at the end as well. She looked a little unsure of this routine from the beginning. Brion gets a 9.35, the first time she has fallen this year, but we cheer her for going for the difficulty. Bama has a team score on the floor of 49.150 (lowest score of the year) and a running score of 147.45. Auburn has a 47.75 on the beam and a running score of 144.975.

Shannon finishes strongly for the
[ 8:09 AM, 03/01/02 ]
Tide and Cheryl Lancaster is now up on beam. She just fell harshly on her flight series (she is crying at the impact)and Coach Jeff Thompson instructs her to go ahead and salute the judges, not wanting to risk another serious injury. Shannon Hrozek gets a 9.875 for her excellent floor routine. Stephanie Kite is now up.

Lauren threw a double
[ 8:04 AM, 03/01/02 ]
pike for her first pass and got completely thrown off as to where her music was at this point (she was so thrilled at landing the pike). She threw a double tuck for her second and on her third pass, and gets a 9.825. Shannon Hrozek is up next. Pate gets a 9.70 for her beam routine and Lisa Clark is through her routine (dismounted with a double tuck, large step backwards to catch herself). She receives a 9.75.

Lauren Holdefer is up
[ 8:02 AM, 03/01/02 ]
next on the floor exercise for Bama (a change in the line up by the coaches).

Ala--Bama!!!
[ 7:50 AM, 03/01/02 ]
The crowd is loud where our fans are, Bama Nation! Andree is throwing high double tucks on the floor as Bryan Raschilla spots her. First up on the balance beam for the Aubie Tigers is freshman Courtney Puckett. She grabbed the beam at the end of her flight series to prevent herself from falling so that will be a significant deduction. Jeana Rice is up on floor for the Tide. She opens with a double pike and a wolf full. She throws a wolf to a punch as a prelude to her second pass, a whip to a 2 1/2 twist! She finished with a whip to a double twist. Way to go Jeana! Courtney Puckett receives a 9.525 and for some reason Jeana Rice gets a 9.825 for perhaps a lack of dance composition. We will check later with the coaches. Natalie Barrington opens with a double tuck (cowboyed) and a front handspring to a front full to a punch front. Nice music. Kayce Stein of Auburn gets a 9.625 for her beam routine. Mary Nell Pate is up next for Aubie. She just threw two side aerials. Natalie gets a 9.80 for her floor routine.

Andree Pickens
[ 7:47 AM, 03/01/02 ]
gets a 9.975 for her vault. Cheryl Lancaster gets a 9.175 for her bars routine. Lisa Clark is next. She throws a Tkatchev dangerously close to the bars and a full in dismount that is landed chest low and forward with a step for a 9.725. Bama has a running score of 98.300 while the Tiggers have a 48.725 and a running score of 97.250.

just nailed her Yurchenko with a full twist. Yahoo!
[ top... ]
Erin Holdefer
[ 7:42 AM, 03/01/02 ]
just threw a front pike and took a step back for a 9.675. Not landing these vaults is killing our score Bama. Go for that stick! You can do it Kippy! Wonderful height and distance for Alexis Brion on her pike with a 1/2 twist, but another bounding step backwards (9.775). Mary Nell Pate gets a 9.7 for her bars routine and Cheryl Lancaster just came off the bars after some intricate twisting and is now finished with her routine.

Auburn actually has a 48.525
[ 7:31 AM, 03/01/02 ]
on the vault, we missed the actual score of Mary Nell Pate (a 9.625). Hrozek vaults a front pike with one left foot forward to stop her momentum. Nice effort. Kristin Thome is up for the Tigers. She throws a Tkatchev with nice height but lands her double layout very low and forward and has to take a deep step to stop her momentum. She receives a 9.60 from one judge and a 9.75 from the other, resulting in a final score of 9.675. Lauren Holdefer gets a 9.65 for her vault of a front pike (bounded way forward, no control on the landing). Jeana Rice just threw a gorgeous Yurchenko full twist with one step back to stop her landing. Courtney Puckett gets a 9.825 for no major release move but she landed her double layout with style! Jeana Rice gets a 9.85 for her vault. Awesome!

Kristin receives

9.775 for her exhibition routine on the bars. Way to go T-Bird! Sterner-mite is now up for the Tide. She throws only the Tkatchev but reaches all of her handstands! She throws the double front and has only a one foot balance check. Welcome back Kristin!

Andree RULES!!!
[ 7:24 AM, 03/01/02 ]
She completed another great bars routine, missed one handstand and landed her full in dismount with great distance. Lancaster got a 9.60 for her vault. Andree gets a 9.875. Bama gets a 49.275 on the bars. Tiffany is exhibiting and doing a very nice job so far. She lands the double tuck and grins at the judges as she salutes. Kristin Sterner will exhibit next. Auburn gets a 48.500 on the vault.
[ top... ]
Natalie Barrington
[ 7:22 AM, 03/01/02 ]
just completed her routine and reached all but one handstand (just missed that last one) and lands a double tuck with panache! She receives a 9.90. Andree is up next.
[ top... ]
Alexa Martinez
[ 7:19 AM, 03/01/02 ]
gets a 9.825! Raegs is looking great on the bars, with wonderful toe point, handstands and a stuck double front dismount! Kristi Boyte threw a front pike with a 1/2 twist and gets a 9.80. Raegs gets a 9.85.
[ top... ]
Jeana Rice
[ 7:16 AM, 03/01/02 ]
just threw a stupendous routine, complete with two reverse giants, a Tkatchev and a stuck full in dismount. Kayce Stein of Auburn got a 9.7 for her pike front vault. We're unsure about Cheryl Lancaster's score and Mary Nell Pate just took a step back on her Yurchenko layout. Jeana Rice gets a 9.825 (one judge gave her a 9.75, the other a 9.90). Alexa Martinez is through her routine and nailed that double layout with great distance. The Tide gymnasts and coaches have enveloped her! Mary Nell Pate gets a 9.60 for her vault.
[ top... ]
On the vault, Auburn starts with Cheryl
[ 7:12 AM, 03/01/02 ]
Lancaster, who throws a Yurchenko layout that she walks out of with a few backward steps upon landing. Shannon Hrozek is up first on the bars. She throws the Geinger and nails the double tuck dismount. She receives a 9.825! Jeana Rice is up next. We cannot see the vault scores, but will try to give you scores as we can.

Alabama is wearing

burgundy velveteen with the bright white satin shoulder stripe that also accents the collar area. Auburn is wearing marine blue with contrasting metallic tangerine on the collars and arms. Coach Patterson is wearing a deep burgundy satin blouse with black silk pants. Jeff Thompson is wearing a sport jacket with contrasting silk mock turtleneck.

Auburn now has a jumbotron!
[ 6:59 AM, 03/01/02 ]
They are singing "we will rock you" (well, Queen is singing it) and fireworks are going off as the Tiger gymnasts walk by. The crowd is cheering them with pride.

Do da, do dodee da....
[ 6:56 AM, 03/01/02 ]
ahem! We are waiting for something to happen. That's why we do not have much to say at this point. We can hear our gymnasts in the back arena yelling, so bring them out, Tiger Man!

The crowd tonight is sparse
[ 6:52 AM, 03/01/02 ]
and we would estimate about 500 total at this point. There is usually at least 2000 for this annual meet. Alabama has at least 75 to 100 fans here as they take up the majority of the front area facing us. RaraRuss is getting the Bama Nation fired up to welcome our ladies into the arena. We will have the fashion report for you shortly.

On the vault
[ 6:47 AM, 03/01/02 ]
we will see Lauren Holdefer in the second spot instead of Stephanie Kite and on the bars we will see Alexa Martinez in the third spot instead of Tiffany Byrd. Tiffany was rotating pretty well and reaching her handstands but was struggling with her dismount. Also, Andree has been moved to the end of the bars line-up and Natalie will be in fifth position. On floor, Natalie Barrington will move into the second spot and Stephanie Kite will be in the third position.

We have some line up
[ 6:41 AM, 03/01/02 ]
changes for the Crimson Tide and will let you know these shortly. Michelle Reeser is being rested this week on the floor and to allow some others to enter the line-up. As Roots Woodruff just said, "We're building depth!" ROLL TIDE!

Shannon is
[ 6:34 AM, 03/01/02 ]
having a little difficulty with her flight series so she will take a breather and try again. Alexa Martinez just dismounted with a running double twist off the front of the beam, awesome!
[ top... ]
Alexis Brion
[ 6:26 AM, 03/01/02 ]
has almost too much power and explosion. Eeeeek! It's the dreaded Regions Bank orange eye of the tiger blimp now putt-putting over our heads. Sarah Patterson is keeping a close eye on this as it starts to waver over the heads of our gymnasts on the balance beam. Jeana Rice is not affected, she just threw a gorgeous flight series and now Andree takes her place on this tricky apparatus. Awesome flight series from 'Dre as well.
[ top... ]
Bama is now on the vault
[ 6:19 AM, 03/01/02 ]
and we are watching each run carefully to make sure our gals get through this warm up safe and sound. Alexa Martinez just threw a front pike with a 1/2 twist, great form and extension but landed on her foo foo! Kristin is warming up on beam and throwing her big skills (straddle to straddle Popa). Kristin Thome and Courtney Puckett are warming up on bars for the Tigers. Erin Gettle is in street clothes, we do not know what her situation is, no obvious injury from what we can tell. Alexa Martinez just threw her pike 1/2 and stood it up beautifully! Stephanie just threw hers.
[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek is
[ 6:06 AM, 03/01/02 ]
working on additional difficulty for her tumbling, looks like it will be a double tuck. Also, Alexis Brion is reportedly going to add another double tuck tonight. We will keep you posted. Kristin Sterner is doing back handsprings on the floor and is looking great. Her left leg is taped tight around the ankle area but as she leaps, turns and tumbles, we do not observe any checks in her landing that might indicate soreness or tenderness. Keep praying for a steady recovery for Kristin, Tide fans!
[ top... ]
Sally Cantrell
[ 6:01 AM, 03/01/02 ]
has just been injured during warm ups on vault and it looks like her other knee may have been injured from our preliminary reports. Assistant volunteer coach, Rachelle Thompson, is comforting her as they bring a rollaway stretcher over to take her for further examinations. Best of luck to Sally, we pray this is not a major tear and that she will be back to finish her senior year. Great courage from this young lady!

The Auburn basketball team is
[ 5:54 AM, 03/01/02 ]
flirting with Andree Pickens as she is getting taped for her floor warm up. They are obviously impressed with her beauty as well as her athleticism. Hey, the Tigers do have good taste! On the floor we have Natalie, Andree, Shannon, Alexis, Jeana, Lauren, Stephanie, Alexa warming up. Whitney is back! The Tide fans are taking up the front section directly across from us (you arrive early you get the best seats).

It's the...eye of the tiger it's the
[ 5:50 AM, 03/01/02 ]
thrill of the hunt...okay, enough of that song. We're in Auburn, Alabama for the Tide versus the Tigers, the second gymnastics meet of 2002. We are looking at the Tide on the uneven bars and Kristin Sterner is walking comfortably now and participating in bars warm-ups. Whitney Morgan is also warming up and all of the ladies look very confident. Natalie Barrington's parents are here, all the way from Canada!
