Coach Sarah Patterson noted [ 8:08 AM, 03/08/02 ]

that this was a great tune up for the upcoming meet against UCLA in Tuscaloosa. Let's have a great turn out to make our official goodbyes to the senior class and get them pumped up for post season competition. ROLL TIDE! And Bama fans who came all this way to cheer for their ladies, watch out for ferocious kats on your way back home. Good night from Kentucky's Memorial Coliseum.

Alabama sweeps [ 8:04 AM, 03/08/02 ]

the vault (Brion, Rice, Pickens), and ties with Kentucky for the win on the bars with Pickens, Barrington, and Tomasek, Julia Gore and Julie Joy (9.90). Bama also wins the balance beam (Rice, Hrozek, Pickens). On the floor, Tomasek and Reeser tie for second and Brion wins it with a 9.95. Our fans are screaming loudly for them.

[ top... ]
They are playing musical chairs [ 7:59 AM, 03/08/02 ]

on the floor prior to handing out the awards.

[ top... ]
Alabama wins every event [ 7:55 AM, 03/08/02 ]

and really kicked it up on the vault this week. It was also great to see Sterner compete on the bars and exhibit on the beam (we could not get a score on the latter). Alabama needed this performance prior to meeting the UCLA Bruins in Tuscaloosa next week for senior night.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice [ 7:53 AM, 03/08/02 ]

wins the all around with a 39.450 and Julie Joy of Kentucky comes in second with a 39.200, and Aronda Primault a 39.150.

[ top... ]
Kentucky [ 7:52 AM, 03/08/02 ]

has to count Gales' score on the floor of a 9.350 since they had an earlier fall from Allen (9.125). Gore gets a 9.75 for her floor routine. Kentucky finishes on floor with a 48.55 and a team score of 195.05.

[ top... ]
Bama has two [ 7:49 AM, 03/08/02 ]

9.85 scores on the beam (Hrozek and Rice) and we are waiting for Andree Pickens score. Gales gets a 9.35 for her floor routine. Andree gets a 9.875. Sterner is exhibitng on beam. Great flight series! Great straddle to straddle Popa combination. Switch leap side, wolf to standing back pike. She dismounts with a simple layout. Awesome! Alabama finishes with a team score of 197.425. Beam total was a 49.125.

[ top... ]
Michelle Gales [ 7:47 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just opened with a double layout (nailed it on an extra mat). Primault gets a 9.85. She finished her routine with a single twist, so may have been deducted for finishing with a simple final pass. Gales just fell on her last pass of a double tuck. Andree is doing great so far on the beam with her flight series, leap series and her punch front. She will now dismount with a double tuck and...it's perfect! Great complete performance all around by Bama tonight! Scores to follow.

[ top... ]
Natalie gets a [ 7:44 AM, 03/08/02 ]

9.80! Zowee! Jeana Rice is now up. Leap series of straddle full to wolf full looks great and a superb flight series of two layouts, a wolf full and now the gymacro (sissone to back handspring), and she completes her standing back gainer with confidence. She dismounts with a double twist, no movement! Yahoo!

[ top... ]
Melanie Zaharias [ 7:42 AM, 03/08/02 ]

got a 9.80 for the GymKats and Julie Joy a 9.80 as well. Martinez gets a 9.75 for her routine. Barrington is up and doing well so far, small bobble on her flight series. Beautiful roundoff to backhandspring and the switch leap to a Korbut (fish flop) was right on. She dismounts solidly. The Tide fans erupt! Great accomplishment for her since she was having trouble all through warm ups.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek [ 7:39 AM, 03/08/02 ]

gets a 9.85, her highest beam score for the year. Way to go freshman! Alexa Martinez is now up. Two gorgeous straddle leaps in combination and her head roll to a stag leap are completed. Her flight series is through but she bent at the waist on her layout. Straddle Popa and wolf Popa are through solidly and she dismounts with a rudi (no steps but she bent forward at the waist to stop any further momentum).

[ top... ]
Nicole Allen [ 7:36 AM, 03/08/02 ]

gets a 9.125 for the GymKats and Raegan gets a 9.75. Shannon Hrozek is now up with a perfect flight series and gymacro. Her hitch kick to a sheep jump looks solid and the switch leap to a wolf jump. Shannon dismounts with a double twist, landed well! Melanie Zaharias for UK just finished up on floor. She opened with a double pike that was landed with a deep knee bend.

[ top... ]
It looks like the line-up [ 7:30 AM, 03/08/02 ]

on balance beam will be: Raegan, Shannon, Alexa, Natalie, Jeana and Andree. Natalie had a rough warm up but we'll see if she competes better. Nicole Allen just fell on her second pass and Raegan slightly bent to the right on her punch front mount. She is through her flight series and her leap series, as well as the front walk over. She redid the wolf jump before the 1/4 dive to handstand and the rest of the routine looks good, including the dismount of a back handspring to a gainer full off the side of the beam. She will be deducted for the form breaks.

[ top... ]
Now the Tide just needs to focus [ 7:26 AM, 03/08/02 ]

on the balance beam, stay on, and get out of here with a great score.

[ top... ]
Alexis Brion [ 7:20 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just nailed her new routine, this time she completed the third pass of a double tuck with finesse! Way to go for the gusto! Gales is on the beam with a super double tuck. Brion gets a 9.95 and the Tide a 49.475 on the floor. Mindy Smith gets a 8.75 on her beam and Michelle Gales a 9.675 (nice difficulty but too many bobbles). Bama has a running score of 148.300. Kentucky has a beam score of 48.450 and a running score of 146.500. Andree exhibited her floor routine and did a great job. Bryan spotted her on her last pass so the judges had to deduct 5 tenths, so by our calculation she would have received a 9.85. Yowza! She is almost there!

[ top... ]
Stephanie [ 7:14 AM, 03/08/02 ]

nailed her front through to a double twist, as well as her second pass of a front handspring, front full, front layout. She finishes with a front handspring, roundoff, layout stepout. Primault is now on the beam for the Kats. She had trouble on her mount (double tuck, bent at the waist to balance) but is throwing some nice leap combinations (straddle to straddle full). Stephanie gets a 9.85. Raegan Tomasek is now up for Bama. Will she throw the double front Arabian?? YES! A little stumble but the angle of the judges should not catch that. Her second pass is a double tuck! Major difficulty (very high and tight as well). Now her final pass is right on! Bama is not holding back on the difficulty tonight. Joy gets a 9.75 and Primault a 9.725 on the beam. Mindy Smith just fell on her gymacro series. Raegan gets a 9.90 and Smith just fell off the beam for a second time.

[ top... ]
Jessie Lemp [ 7:11 AM, 03/08/02 ]

got a 9.725 for her beam and Zaharias a 9.575. Julie Joy is now up. Reeser completed a great floor routine and receives a 9.90. Great gymnastics and dance throughout. Stephanie Kite is now up for the Tide.

[ top... ]
Alexa Martinez [ 7:10 AM, 03/08/02 ]

receives a 9.875 for her floor routine. Michelle Reeser is up next for the Tide.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice [ 7:07 AM, 03/08/02 ]

receives a 9.80 for her routine. Alexa Martinez is now up for the Tide on floor. We may see a different opening pass from her. Yes, the threw a front handspring, front layout to a 1 1/2 and then a double twist on her second pass. Another double twist on her third pass down the middle of the floor and she is now setting up for her fourth and final pass, a front handspring, roundoff, layout, stepout. Jessie Lemp of KY gets a 9.70 for her beam routine. Melanie Zaharias is now on the beam.

[ top... ]
Jeana is through [ 7:04 AM, 03/08/02 ]

her double pike and her whip to a 2 1/2 twist, and the whip to a double twist at the end. She sold this routine better this week. Way to go!

[ top... ]
Michelle Gales has some nice [ 7:01 AM, 03/08/02 ]

difficulty on the balance beam (mounts with a front punch). Jeana Rice will start Bama off on the floor exercise. We need a big score from her!

[ top... ]
Bama is now on the floor [ 7:00 AM, 03/08/02 ]

exercise and again will need to build their scores to put the cats away for good.

[ top... ]
Alabama has a running score of [ 6:58 AM, 03/08/02 ]

98.825 and Lindsay Cameron of Kentucky received a 9.75 for her routine on the bars. Kentucky gets a 49.125 on the bars and they are at 98.05.

[ top... ]
Julie Joy [ 6:57 AM, 03/08/02 ]

gets a 9.90 for a hop full to gienger (leg split on the release)and she rotated very nicely.

[ top... ]
Primault gets a 9.775 [ 6:56 AM, 03/08/02 ]

and they deducted for her missed handstands but she had very nice form otherwise. Andree Pickens just nailed her vault as well, a Yurchenko with a full twist for a 9.95! Awesome Bama! A 49.450!

[ top... ]
Gore gets a [ 6:53 AM, 03/08/02 ]

9.90 for her bars routine. Alexis Brion is next on the vault and she just vaulted a huge pike with a 1/2 twist, one step back. She gets a 9.875!

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice just nailed her [ 6:52 AM, 03/08/02 ]

Yurchenko with a full twist! We love ya Bama! Those vaults are now starting to come around big time. She gets a 9.95!

[ top... ]
Jessie Lemp [ 6:52 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just got a 9.80 for her bars routine. Hrozek gets a 9.85, a career high for her. Bama is feeding off these early great vaults. Keep it up.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek is up next [ 6:51 AM, 03/08/02 ]

for the Tide with a front pike. Hrozek just nailed her front pike! Way to go Texas gal! Toe point as well!

[ top... ]
Stephanie Kite [ 6:49 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just vaulted a huge pike with a 1/2 twist, only one step back to catch herself. You go girl! Allen of Kentucky gets a 9.70 for her bars routine. Kite gets a 9.80.

[ top... ]
We are ready to roll! [ 6:46 AM, 03/08/02 ]

Erin Holdefer will start us off on vault with a front pike. She landed this much better than in the past several weeks. Nicole Allen just threw a routine with lots of turns and giants but no major release move. Erin Holdefer gets a 9.825 to start us off in a big way. Let's ROLL!

[ top... ]
Bama now moves to the vault [ 6:44 AM, 03/08/02 ]

and we need crisp, solid landings to get the score up more.

[ top... ]
Awesome routine [ 6:39 AM, 03/08/02 ]

by Whitney Morgan, she nailed the dismount and had a huge grin on her face as she saluted the judges. Her teammates were screaming encouragement and attacked her with hugs at the end. Rararuss just screamed "Way to go Bama!" Whitney gets a 9.825 for her routine. We did not catch Alexa's score. Again, Bama has a 49.375 (the original scores on Nat and Sterner were wrong, hence .05 increase).

[ top... ]
Alexa Martinez [ 6:38 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just nailed her double layout dismount with impeccable form. Whitney Morgan will now exhibit for the Tide as well.

[ top... ]
Roots Woodruff has [ 6:36 AM, 03/08/02 ]

asked us to inform the Bama Nation that the scores coming up on the online scoring is off because Kentucky changed their line-up a bit. So be patient. The scores popping up are different than the ones being fed to him by the computer. Andree Pickens gets a 9.90 for a great routine (don't know where they took off a tenth, to be honest). Alexa Martinez is exhibiting her routine and just fell on her Tkatchev. Alabama has a total of 49.375 on the bars and Kentucky has a 48.925 on the vault.

[ top... ]
Natalie is now up on the [ 6:34 AM, 03/08/02 ]

bars and so far looks stupendous! She had the smallest shuffle back on her landing of the double tuck out of a full turn. Way to go! She gets a 9.90!

[ top... ]
Raegan Tomasek [ 6:32 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just had a stupendous bars, nailing every handstand, and her pike jaeger and the dismount of double front was awesome to behold (Bryan leapt to the rafters!). Primault gets a 9.80 for her vault. Raegan gets a 9.90 for a truly great routine.

[ top... ]
Kristin Sterner is up next! [ 6:29 AM, 03/08/02 ]

She just threw an awesome routine, reached all of her handstands and landed her double front with a one step back. Amazing! Julia Gore got a 9.80 on her vault and the first vaulter for KY got a 9.65, not a 9.70. Sterner gets a 9.825 for her bars.

[ top... ]
Julie Joy [ 6:28 AM, 03/08/02 ]

just threw a pike with a 1/2 twist for a 9.75. Jeana Rice just nailed her routine, including the full in dismount. She did that half turn like a dime on top of the bars. She gets a 9.85!

[ top... ]
Kentucky starts off on the [ 6:24 AM, 03/08/02 ]

vault with Kara Prestigiacomo, who vaults a front pike and takes a step forward on her landing. Feet were flexed as well. Shannon is now up for Bama. Full turn and then a gienger release move and she reaches her handstands very well but takes a small hop back on her dismount of a full tuck. It looks like the first vaulter got a 9.700. Shannon got a 9.75.

[ top... ]
Natalie looks like she's [ 6:22 AM, 03/08/02 ]

got it together now on the bars. The judges on the bars are on the same side because the arena is rather small and there is no room on the other side, which is close to the floor exercise mat. Here we go!

[ top... ]
And now for the fashion report [ 6:17 AM, 03/08/02 ]

from our very own, Sarah Patterson. She told us to inform her fans that it is very hot in this arena and she cannot believe she wore her brown tweed jacket (fur lined) with matching pants. She described her outfit as fur in a lovely shade of sweat! What a comic! David Patterson and Bryan Raschilla have already discarded their jackets and are examining their line ups once again. This week Alabama is attired in an outfit consisting of deep crimson velveteen sleeves and collar with a waffle weave bodice in a lighter shade of crimson. Kentucky is in their deep blue with spangles on the upper shoulders and a diamond cut-out above the bodice.

[ top... ]
Kentucky has had [ 6:15 AM, 03/08/02 ]

two seniors have career-ending ACL injuries this year, Simmons and Toups.

[ top... ]
The Gymkat emblem on the [ 6:08 AM, 03/08/02 ]

side wall is smoking! It has fiery orange eyes and a huge, ferocious mouth, from which smoke is emitting! Looks like it would be appropriate for a Halloween haunted house. And now it has fireworks coming out (like WWF) and the announcer is telling us that nobody comes into this cat's house and pushes it around. Great effect. Now they are introducing the seniors for Kentucky: Jessie Lemp, Nicole Allen, Jennifer Simmons, Katie Toups.

[ top... ]
The announcer just called Shannon Hrozek [ 6:05 AM, 03/08/02 ]

"Horseshack", like from Welcome Back, Kotter. Yeah Whitney Morgan, alot of people are cheering for her from her home state. It's senior night for Kentucky! They are being congratulated by Leah Little, coach of the Kentucky Gymkats.

[ top... ]
The #18 GymKats [ 6:04 AM, 03/08/02 ]

and the #2 Crimson Tide Gymnastics are ready to rumble! Here comes our team to ROLL TIDE ROLL from the partisan Bama nation (35 fans we estimate).

[ top... ]
J-Lo is now singing [ 6:02 AM, 03/08/02 ]

my love don't cost a thing! The Alabama Gymnastics Team don't cost a thing either but they are worth a million dollars to their loyal fans! It's hard not to stand up and dance with the GymKat gals, the music choice is downright funky and righteous! They exit with a polite applause from the fans.

[ top... ]
The GymKat Dancers [ 5:58 AM, 03/08/02 ]

are now on the floor (there are four of them). It's reportedly spring break for the Kentucky Wildcat students and then there is the SEC basketball tournament in Atlanta, Georgia, so that's where all their fans are.

[ top... ]
Our little timer [ 5:55 AM, 03/08/02 ]

next to these play-by-play entries is off by 12 hours, so please shift one hour ahead (for eastern time) and change the am to pm in your mind. You are not in the twilight zone but you are on line with the best gymnastics team in the nation! We are about five minutes from showtime.

[ top... ]
We will post the [ 5:48 AM, 03/08/02 ]

line-ups as soon as we have them, as well as the fashion report once our ladies enter the arena.

[ top... ]
Roots Woodruff has a new haircut [ 5:45 AM, 03/08/02 ]

(or should we say buzz)and just extorted one dollar from PBAs! For what, we are not sure. Maybe Kentucky requires a one dollar donation to post our scintillating commentaries throughout the Bama Nation. It's well worth it, don't you think?

[ top... ]
Coaches are chatting now [ 5:43 AM, 03/08/02 ]

and examining the line-ups for final approval. Bryan is chatting with the girls and they seem relaxed and ready to roll.

[ top... ]
Natalie remounts the bars with [ 5:42 AM, 03/08/02 ]

the encouragement of her team mates and almost makes it through an entire routine before having to drop back down and rechalk.

[ top... ]
Yeah Alabama, drown em Tide! [ 5:41 AM, 03/08/02 ]

Andree is dancing and prancing to our favorite tune. She is smiling widely now as she jukes and jives to the music with some funky new dance moves.

[ top... ]
Natalie is struggling [ 5:38 AM, 03/08/02 ]

a bit tonight on her timing on the uneven bars and earlier on the balance beam. She is also a little frustrated with herself on her dismount (seeks perfection on every move, what a champ). David is encouraging her and she remounts the bars for another go.

[ top... ]
We have nine ladies [ 5:37 AM, 03/08/02 ]

warming up on the floor and Kristin Sterner is helping to cheer them on. She has started to tumble and vault again in the practice gym. Tiffany Byrd has now changed her bars dismount to a double pike and just landed it well.

[ top... ]
Nice 2 1/2 twist out of a whip [ 5:31 AM, 03/08/02 ]

from Jeana Rice. Andree is warming up the floor as well and looks sharp. Nice double front Arabian from Raegan and a pak salto from Natalie on the bars. Jeana Rice has that look tonight and hopefully will attack all four events for a strong all around score.

[ top... ]
We have new hairstyles [ 5:29 AM, 03/08/02 ]

by Alexis Brion and Jeana Rice. Looks like they both cut their hair and curled it, like they're going to a prom after the meet! Ah, such elegance and refinement from our ladies, even as they are sweating their pores out for the Bama Nation!

[ top... ]
Raegan likes these [ 5:26 AM, 03/08/02 ]

bars! Nice pike jaeger from Whitney and a double layout dismount. Reeser is warming on floor and the Bama fans are clapping loudly to fire her up. Kristin Sterner just threw her full twisting Tkatchev and her Tkatchev and her double full dismount. Zowee!

[ top... ]
Wowee! [ 5:25 AM, 03/08/02 ]

Andree now has a full turn on top of the bar after her final hip cast to handstand before then going into her full in dismount.

[ top... ]
Awesome Andree! [ 5:22 AM, 03/08/02 ]

She just threw a spectacular full in dismount and landed it perfectly. Shannon has added a full turn on top of the bar at the beginning of her routine and executed it perfectly. Jeana just completed a nice warm up as well, striving for toe point and extension on every move.

[ top... ]
Raegan just did a [ 5:20 AM, 03/08/02 ]

face pancake but bounced back up after trying her pike Jaeger release. Whitney is warming up bars again this week and we may see her exhibit in front of her family and friends.

[ top... ]
Bama has now moved [ 5:16 AM, 03/08/02 ]

to the uneven bars, which are right in front of us. The lighting over the bars area is rather dim and we are hoping they will turn on the remaining lights back and above us over the direct seating area. The Tide does not appear to be affected by this.

[ top... ]
Hello Bama Nation! [ 5:09 AM, 03/08/02 ]

We are in the fieldhouse on the campus of the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Kentucky for tonight's meet against UA and KY. We are watching the Tide warm up on the vault and there are alot of 10 vaults being thrown but we do not know whether any of these will be competed tonight. Alexis Brion landed her pike with a 1/2 twist straight up and the Bama fans present roared with approval (they are hungry for this vault to be nailed by her!).
