will be the order of the day as we move into Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of this next week. Relax and enjoy the moment Bama Nation!
Also, make sure to mark your calendars for Saturday Night, April 27, 2002: the UA Gymnastics Banquet will take place at the Bryant Conference Center. Look for more information on our website coming up this week. The banquet is the perfect time to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of this season, to give a fond farewell to our departing seniors and prepare for the upcoming year as we welcome five new Tiders to Tuscaloosa to carry the torch for Alabama Gymnastics! There will be a video highlight of this season so you will not want to miss out on this moment. There may also be information about obtaining championship tee-shirts. See you there!

Event finals showcased some wonderful gymnastics
[ 2:36 AM, 04/21/02 ]
Saturday Night in Coleman Coliseum as the third day of competition wrapped up the NCAA Championships.
Alabama had 11 performances in all, most of the 12 teams that were present, and stood up all 11.
Vault was closely contested between UCLA's Jamie Dantzscher (1st), UGA's Marline Stephens (2nd) and Alabama's Andree Pickens (3rd). Andree threw two 10.0 vaults, the Yurchenko full twist and the Hristakieva from her previous three years. She really went for the stuck landing on both vaults and made the coaches proud.
On the balance beam, Michigan's Elise Ray was well-rested after her team missed the Super Six and she had a fine performance for first place, followed closely by Alabama's Jeana Rice (2nd) and Kristin Sterner (3rd).
The uneven bars title went to Andree Pickens (9.925) and it was down to the wire on this event with Jamie Dantzscher grabbing the coveted final spot in the line-up; however, Dantzscher had too much trouble on her dismount landing to seize the prize from 'Dre. Andree's dismount of a full in was landed picture perfect after she threw her four signature release moves. Congratulations!
The floor exercise was unique in that no gymnast competing suffered a fall. Jamie Dantzscher and Nikki Arnstad (LSU) had to share the title and both were gracious winners. Shannon Bowles of Utah had a strong performance to finish third, followed by Bama's Alexis Brion (her best floor performance of the three nights).
