Jeana Rice won the beam with a 9.95 [ 9:09 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and Ashley Miles won vault and floor. Jeana also won the uneven bars. Hrozek wins all around, followed by Tiffany Berry and Hannah McLeod came in second and third. Bama team is now praying, thanking the Lord (and Salto) for their performance tonight with all ladies finishing safely. Let's head north to Lincoln, Nebraska and make it two in a row by beating those Cornhuskers. Roll Tide and we will see you at 12 noon from the campus of the University of Nebraska.

[ top... ]
Larissa Stewart's parents [ 9:04 PM, 01/24/03 ]

are sitting behind us, all the way from Healdton, Oklahoma. Hopefully, they will get to see her exhibit on the bars and beam against Nebraska on Sunday.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek wins the all around [ 9:01 PM, 01/24/03 ]

with a 39.300. Kudos to the solid performances by all of our ladies tonight. Mega kudos to Stephanie Kite's increased difficulty on the opening pass on floor (punch front out of a front through to a double full). Awards are going to be given shortly for ech event. The teams are hugging each other for a great meet.

[ top... ]
Delahoussaye gets a 9.60 [ 8:58 PM, 01/24/03 ]

for her beam, no doubt due to the rough look to her dismount and the two balance checks on the three leap series. Hannah McLeod gets a 9.875 for her floor routine and Tiffany Berry finishes up for the Ladybacks. Holdefer is on the beam with a punch front mount (leg lifted to the side to balance the landing); nice leap series and a back handspring to layout. She falls on the punch front. Tiffany Berry gets a 9.75 for her floor routine and Holdefer dismounts her exhibition routine on the beam with a rudi. 49.375 on the balance beam for the Tide and a final tally of 197.200. Roll Tide indeed. 194.475 for the Razorbacks. They scored a 48.975 on the floor.

[ top... ]
Rice gets a 9.95! [ 8:57 PM, 01/24/03 ]

for a stupendous beam routine. She scored a 10 in our hearts.

[ top... ]
Kristin Sterner is going to [ 8:55 PM, 01/24/03 ]

take a rest from the beam tonight to allow Rachael Delahoussaye to finish in the sixth position. She is fine Mama and Papa Sterner! Delahoussaye is through her wolf full and a beautiful back handspring to layout! What confidence! She throws a switch leap to wolf to 3/4 straddle (two tiny steps to check). Switch leap to wolf combination and she dismounts with a tuck off the end of the beam. She's glad she stayed on!! Yahoo Bama, six for six with a new face in the line-up!

[ top... ]
Dana Filetti almost knocked Ashley Miles over with the [ 8:53 PM, 01/24/03 ]

mat! They were trying to move this in place for the next routine, by none other than Rachael Delahoussaye!!! Loveless of Arkansas gets a 9.825 for her floor routine and Hannah McLeod is doing a fine job so far.

[ top... ]
Hrozek gets a 9.825 for her beam routine. [ 8:51 PM, 01/24/03 ]

All-American, Jeana Rice is up next for Bama. She throws a wolf to immediate straddle leap series and the flight series of two layouts out of a back handspring, beautiful wolf full. Looking awesome so far and if she nails that dismount, we could be looking at another 10. And she did! The Bama nation erupts behind her. Way to pull it through Bama!!!

[ top... ]
Brooke Lawrence got a 9.725 for her floor [ 8:51 PM, 01/24/03 ]

routine, Harris a 9.675 and Hardman a 9.800.

[ top... ]
All American Shannon Hrozek [ 8:48 PM, 01/24/03 ]

is up next for the Tide. She mounts the beam with a walkover onto the beam and completes her flight series with no major problems. The leaps are a little tentative but she throws a beautiful hitch kick to sheep jump (nice arch in the back). She dismounts with a gainer layout, one step back. Her ankle is taped (right) and may be bothering her, hence the tentative landing on some of her leaps.

[ top... ]
Three in the can, three to go. [ 8:47 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Brooke Lawrence of Arkansas opened with a strong double pike and is dancing well with encouragement from her gals. Bayer gets a 9.90!!! Yowza!

[ top... ]
Bayer is on with her mount [ 8:44 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and throws a beautiful front aerial to immediate back handspring to a Korbut. A beautiful front walkover to leg scale after a side leg scale. Leaps are just a little tentative but completed well: switch leap to straddle to wolf. She takes a tiny step to the left on her dismount of the pike full off the end of the beam. You can see this young team gaining confidence week in and week out.

[ top... ]
Pierce gets a 9.850 for her routine [ 8:44 PM, 01/24/03 ]

on the beam as well. Let's keep this Tide rolling Bama. M-C is up next.

[ top... ]
Two in the can, four to go. [ 8:43 PM, 01/24/03 ]

This reminds us of the regionals meet last year. Arkansas'Kim Harris just bounded out of bounds on her opening pass of a double pike. The Mask is her music.

[ top... ]
Let's keep it going Tide! [ 8:41 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Dana Pierce is on with a huge grin for the judges. Nice switch leap to two straddle jumps, magnificent amplitude. She is through the flight series of a back handspring to layout and the side switch leap. Looking very confident with another leap series of switch leap to wolf full and she dismounts with a back handspring to layout, great distance from the beam.

[ top... ]
Katie Hardman is up first on the floor [ 8:39 PM, 01/24/03 ]

for the Ladybacks. She has great dance from her Elite competition days. She opens with a double pike, slight leg separation and a step back, followed by what looked like a Rudi. Reeser gets a 9.850.

[ top... ]
Reeser is through her mount [ 8:38 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and flight series, with a slight shift on the Korbut, but she recovered smoothly. Leaps look good so far, especially the switch leap to two straddles. Nice dismount, way to get us started sophomore!

[ top... ]
Michelle Reeser will start the [ 8:36 PM, 01/24/03 ]

beam rotation for the Tide tonight. Patterson has made some changes in the line-up and it looks like she is putting Sterner in fifth.

[ top... ]
Rachael Delahoussaye [ 8:35 PM, 01/24/03 ]

is exhibiting tonight and is looking solid on her flight series and the wolf full while our veterans are showing some nerves during the 3 minute touch. Let's get tough Bama, we are gunning for a 197 plus score tonight!!!

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce has incredible amplitude on the straddle [ 8:33 PM, 01/24/03 ]

leaps she throws. Sterner is off tonight on beam, looks sluggish and maybe a bit fatigued overall. M-C will go third tonight.

[ top... ]
Bama has a running total of 147.825 [ 8:32 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and Arkansas 145.500. Shannon Hrozek leads the all around with a score of 29.475.

[ top... ]
Filetti throws a whip to double full [ 8:27 PM, 01/24/03 ]

on the first pass, front handspring to front full to front tuck on the second and ends with a front to what looks like a flyspring. She may have left out a third element on this final pass because she slipped a bit. Katie Hardman gets a 9.85 on her beam routine.

[ top... ]
Kite gets a 9.800 [ 8:24 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and Ashley Miles just brought down the house, opening with a stupendous double layout (which she nailed) and the biggest smile in the house in response. She gets a 10.00 from one judge and 9.95 from another, for a final of 9.975!!! Now we get to Dana Filetti on floor for exhibition!!!

[ top... ]
Katie Hardman [ 8:22 PM, 01/24/03 ]

is looking good on the beam, throwing a side switch leap and a flight series of two back handsprings to a layout. A little bobble on her straddle 3/4 leap. A side Somi was done very nicely indeed! Lots of difficulty in this routine. Dismounts with a tuck half twist (unusual) and takes one step.

[ top... ]
Stephanie Kite is up next and [ 8:21 PM, 01/24/03 ]

throws a wolf 1 1/2 perfectly. She just threw a front through to a double and a punch front out of that!!! Yowza! Can you say international difficulty???? However, her momentum took her one step out of bounds but we are thrilled for her standing this up. Rest of this routine looks great. Cashwell gets a 9.775 for her beam routine.

[ top... ]
Whitney Cashwell threw a side Somi [ 8:20 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and this routine will score well as she dismounts with a double full and lands it well.

[ top... ]
McLeod gets a 9.300 for her beam routine [ 8:19 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and Cashwell is now on. She does a handstand to a back handspring to a layout and landed this very well. Leaps are very confident. Lauren Holdefer gets a 9.90.

[ top... ]
Lauren Holdefer (otherwise known as "Bert") [ 8:17 PM, 01/24/03 ]

is up next to Bad to the Bone. Beautiful cat leap full, double tuck on the first pass and finishing with another double tuck and perfect ending to the music. The Bama Nation is going nuts behind us!

[ top... ]
McLeod had a nice routine going there [ 8:16 PM, 01/24/03 ]

on beam until her round off, that she fell on. Bayer gets a 9.875.

[ top... ]
Reeser gets a 9.90! [ 8:14 PM, 01/24/03 ]

M-C Bayer is now up. She is through her first two routines beautifully and ends with a solid double full and another strong applause from the Arkansas crowd. Way to go slugger as RaraRuss is yelling behind us! Lawrence gets a 9.825 for the Ladybacks.

[ top... ]
Brooke Lawrence [ 8:13 PM, 01/24/03 ]

is through her flight series but is hesitating on her leaps. Side switch leap completed and a dismount of a 1 1/2. Very happy lady!

[ top... ]
Arkansas so far has a 9.025 [ 8:12 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and a 9.65 on the balance beam.

[ top... ]
Reeser is through her opening pass of a double pike, [ 8:10 PM, 01/24/03 ]

which was much better than last week. She is really selling this one to the judges and ends with a gigantic smile. The Arkansas crowd really likes this routine and clapped loudly. Should score well.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek is up first for the Tide. [ 8:05 PM, 01/24/03 ]

She is through her opening two passes and Dana Dobransky has changed the dance alot from last year; Shannon was off the music a bit at the end (double full was her third pass). She gets a 9.875 for otherwise awesome tumbling and presentation.

[ top... ]
She throws a front walk-over [ 8:04 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and a split leap full but bends at the waist to catch her balance and dismounts with a gainer off the side, big hop to the side.

[ top... ]
Arkansas starts off on the balance beam [ 8:03 PM, 01/24/03 ]

with Tiffany Berry. Switch leap to two straddle jumps and she falls on the flight series of two back handsprings to a layout.

[ top... ]
Bama SPELL OUT! [ 8:02 PM, 01/24/03 ]

B-A-M-A BAMA ALL THE WAY! It's a contest between SOOOHHEEEEEE and BAMA ALL THE WAY!

[ top... ]
Holdefer just threw a nice double tuck [ 8:00 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and the crowd just went "oooohhhhh" as Ashley landed her double layout in the 3:30 minute warm-up.

[ top... ]
Bama will need to pick up the scoring on floor and balance beam [ 7:58 PM, 01/24/03 ]

to get another good score on the road. Bama will rest Rice and Sterner on the floor and go with Hrozek, Miles, Reeser, M-C, Kite and Holdefer.

[ top... ]
Miles gets a 9.90 for her vault! Way to go Bama! [ 7:55 PM, 01/24/03 ]

The Tide scores a 49.175 on the vault and have a running total of 98.300 after two events. Pierce gets a 9.675 for her Yurchenko layout exhibition. The Hogs get a 48.600 on the bars and have a running total of 97.100.

[ top... ]
Rice throws a nice Yurchenko 1/1 for a 9.875 [ 7:52 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and Berry of Arkansas gets a 9.775 for her bars routine. Cashwell just fell off the bars on her Tkatchev release so she will receive a major deduction for this, plus she dismounts with a single twist. Awesome vault from Ashley Miles, the Yurchenko 1/1, which she nailed. Pierce is going to exhibit her vault again this week. We need hers and M-C's for Nebraska. 9.125 for Cashwell's bar routine.

[ top... ]
Lauren Holdefer gets a 9.80! [ 7:46 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Shannon Hrozek is up next. She vaults a front pike and takes a tiny hop for a 9.775. Sterner vaults a half off front layout and pops forward on one leg for a 9.825. Very nice form in the flight of this vault. McQuillen of Arkansas gets a 9.75. Stephanie Kite just went down on her right knee on the pike 1/2 twist, so this will be counted as a fall. Kim Harris gets a 9.65 for Arkansas on bars. Kite gets a 9.325 for her vault. This leaves Rice and Miles to go next. We need the big scores ladies! Bring it home!

[ top... ]
Okay, up first for the TIde is Lauren Holdefer, whose parents [ 7:39 PM, 01/24/03 ]

are immediately to her left along with the rest of the Bama Nation crowd here in Fayetteville. Lauren vaults a front pike with one small left foot forward. Very solid. We have spotted several Alabama fans over and up to our left with sweatshirts on. Roll Tide! Hannah McLeod just threw a pretty good routine sans a major release. A 1 1/2 twist was one nice feature but legs were loose at several points.

[ top... ]
Bama moves to the vault, where we will see [ 7:37 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Pierce, Sterner, Rice, Kite, Miles, Holdefer and Hrozek go. M-C is being rested on the vault tonight to get ready for the Cornhuskers.

[ top... ]
Rice gets a 9.90! [ 7:35 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Bama finishes with a 49.125, again not spectacular but we'll take it. Dana Filetti exhibited again and just like Sterner was doing a great job in her routine until the dismount. She over-rotated the double front dismount out of a 1 1/2 and had to touch her hands down to keep from falling. Arkansas has a total score of 48.500 on the vault.

[ top... ]
Sterner gets a 9.275 [ 7:33 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and Jeana Rice just threw a beautiful routine, fighting for the stuck landing on her full in but having to scoot forward as she raised her arms.

[ top... ]
Miles gets a 9.90!!! [ 7:31 PM, 01/24/03 ]

You go girl! Kristin Sterner just sat on her foo foo on the dismount of a double front. She did great through all of this routine until the end, striving extra hard not to clip her ankles. The rotation throughout this routine was a little slow, so she may have lacked enough power at the end to bring that double front around.

[ top... ]
Ashley Miles just nailed her bars routine! [ 7:29 PM, 01/24/03 ]

All moves completed vertically and with power, including the double front dismount. Only a little leg separation on the toe on shoot to the high bar.

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce had a solid routine [ 7:27 PM, 01/24/03 ]

but gave away a few tenths for the one handstand she missed and taking a step back on her toe on front tuck dismount. Pierce gets a 9.825 for her bars routine and Ashley is next.

[ top... ]
Whitney Cashwell got a 9.50 for her vault and Hannah McLeod [ 7:26 PM, 01/24/03 ]

a 9.65 for her vault. Reeser gets a 9.675 for her bars.

[ top... ]
Whitney Cashwell just threw a front tuck [ 7:24 PM, 01/24/03 ]

vault. Hrozek gets a 9.825 for her bars routine but Michelle Reeser experiences a little trouble on her release move of a Tkatchev, just clipping her foot but continuing the routine and landing the tuck reverse over the high bar with a hop back.

[ top... ]
We are about ready to get this one going. [ 7:22 PM, 01/24/03 ]

On vault for Arkansas is Kim Harris, who vaults a 9.80 valued vault, a Yurchenko layout and lands it well but salutes the judges as she lands it to cover a step. On the bars we have Shannon Hrozek up first for the Tide. She hits every move except the last handstand, so there will be a deduction for this and a tiny hop forward on the dismount that she fought to hold. Kim Harris gets a 9.700.

[ top... ]
And now, for the fashion report. [ 7:17 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Bama is in a beautiful deep burgundy/wine-colored outfit trimmed in velveteen with contrast sleeves and upper bodice while Arkansas is in primarily a black and sparkly red with a black swirl outfit.

[ top... ]
Good job from the singer with a very difficult song. [ 7:14 PM, 01/24/03 ]

Hold those HOGS! They are doing a chant with the girls, including the PIG SOOOEEEEE! Now, what if our gals did that with the crowd and yelled ROLL TIDE ROLL! Powerful stuff. The Lone Ranger is now being played. At least it's not "I've been working on the railroad". The gymnasts had to be reminded by Coach Cook to go down and salute the judges at the vault before their warm-up. This IS a new team!

[ top... ]
And now, the national anthem [ 7:12 PM, 01/24/03 ]

is being sung. There is another scoring sign to our immediate right, very impressive!

[ top... ]
Arkansas has 10 ladies who have been [ 7:12 PM, 01/24/03 ]

introduced to the partisan crowd. Now the coaches, Mark and Renee Cook enter to the fight song.

[ top... ]
They have a nice scoring sign set up to our front and far left [ 7:10 PM, 01/24/03 ]

that looks like the ones used in USA and International Elite meets. Very cool and hopefully will help us get those scores to you quicker.

[ top... ]
They are coming through a lighted steel arch [ 7:10 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and high-five the Arkansas Hog as they run out onto the floor. They are wearing shiny red jackets and black leggings.

[ top... ]
The defending national champs are getting a nice, warm welcome [ 7:08 PM, 01/24/03 ]

from the University of Arkansas crowd but the Alabama crowd is cheering the loudest. There are fans across from us who are standing up and cheering the Tide as they salute the crowd and then exit to their first event, the uneven bars. Next comes the home team. Let's see what they have in store for us. Kind of Olympic like music going. The emcee has a very loud voice!

[ top... ]
Okay, Phil Collins is now through singing his Miami Vice song [ 7:06 PM, 01/24/03 ]

and we are about to introduce the teams. The crowd looks at about 2500 but we will wait for the official count later. Hello to Salto, Saltine, and Salsa, Bo and Rick, Don and Brenda, Segail, and all the 10,000 plus Bama fans on line tonight. We love you all!

[ top... ]
What a long, strange trip i'ts been from K.C. to Fayetteville. [ 7:05 PM, 01/24/03 ]

PBAs are worn out and the meet hasn't even started! Just getting through the "will call" was like rush time in NYC! But we are here and excited about meeting a new SEC foe and perhaps developing a new "rivalry" to match the one with UGA VI!

[ top... ]
Hello Bama Nation from Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas! [ 7:03 PM, 01/24/03 ]

We are on the campus of the University of Arkansas, where the Crimson Tide, Defending National Champions, are about to take on the Ladybacks, the debut team in the SEC and NCAA. We have the large Bama Nation crowd right behind us yelling very loudly in this rather contained arena and the ladies are entering now with huge smiles on their faces. Roll Tide! We can feel it coming in the air tonight!
