Update on Ashley Miles
[ 9:12 PM, 02/08/03 ]
She was stretching during the long warm-ups (before the event warm-ups) with the ladies and doing her rehab reps and is walking well. It's tough for her to be on the sidelines but hopefully she will be able to make it back by March or championship season.

Coach Patterson is chatting with Denver's assistant coach
[ 8:58 PM, 02/08/03 ]
congratulating him no doubt on a great turnout. Bama again mixed up the line-up to continue building depth as they move into the month of February. This is another solid road performance by the defending champs and it just shows how this team is always ready to step up when faced with adversity. The bars scores were not to their liking so they turned it up on balance beam. When the scores on floor were not coming, they turned it up again on the vault. The judges are right smack in front of us going over the final scores before making them official.

Holdefer is through her double pike and double tuck passes and will end with another double tuck, perfect timing on the ending! The Holdefer clan is going wild and RaraRuss is trying to contain their energy so they don't fall down the bleachers. These gyms can be hazardous you know.

[ 7:40 PM, 02/08/03 ]
(great amplitude as usual) and her flight series is right on! Beautiful side switch leap but she bobbles on the little move she does down onto the beam and takes a small hop on her dismount. The Denver gymnast (second up) gets a 9.150 for her bars.
[ top... ]

Well, Mari Christine Bayer just exhibited a very nice
[ 7:24 PM, 02/08/03 ]
routine without a major release move (beautiful release from high to low bar in a perfect handstand position) and she nailed the dismount of a full pirouette to a double tuck (nice distance from the bars) for a 9.80.
[ top... ]
Jeana Rice just completed her
[ 7:23 PM, 02/08/03 ]
bars routine, two inverted giants to a half turn to a Tkatchev and a full in dismount (one tiny foot check back) for a 9.90.
[ top... ]
Kristin Sterner just completed her routine
[ 7:19 PM, 02/08/03 ]
which includes a full twisting Tkatchev and a Tkatchev and missed only one handstand but nailed the dismount of a double front (getting better and better each week)for a 9.80. Dana Pierce had an awesome routine going, reaching all but one handstand, two beautiful inverted giants and a booming Tkatchev release but she missed her foot on the toe-on front tuck dismount and went flying forward onto her foo foo (she did land chest up!). She received a 9.175.
[ top... ]
Larissa Stewart is up next
[ 7:17 PM, 02/08/03 ]
and she just threw a great routine, nailing the double layout, to be immediately enveloped by her coaches and team. This was an incredible achievement, she has been working mega hard on this routine all fall and came through for the Tide big time. She receives a 9.75.
[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek, you rule!
[ 7:15 PM, 02/08/03 ]
Up first on bars, she just nailed her routine, with an explosive landing of a double tuck (both rotations above the high bar) to the stand up cheering of the Tide fans and she is rewarded a 9.825 (first up blues?). She is followed by a solid routine from sophomore Michelle Reeser for a 9.70.

Denver has several cheerleaders getting the crowd into it

We are about to have the line-up for the Tide
[ 6:48 PM, 02/08/03 ]
and will post as soon as possible. Denver Pioneers Coach Melissa Kutcher just walked by and is ready for a great meet. She has built a solid national program here at the small, private university which we believe has approximately 6000 students.

We're collecting a nice-sized crowd as the

arena fills with some of the Level 10 gymnasts and their families who were here earlier today for a meet.
[ top... ]
The temperature getting in last night was around 16
[ 6:38 PM, 02/08/03 ]
degrees and snow is expected tonight. They know how to shovel snow here, so no need to worry about our gals getting safely to the airport on Sunday.

David Patterson has just trusted RaraSusan and PBA2
[ 6:36 PM, 02/08/03 ]
with the all-important vaulting spring, which they will need for their final event this afternoon. The Air Force Falcons are here in a tri-meet with Denver and the Tide. So Denver will go on vault, Bama will start on the bars, the Falcons on the beam and then all teams will rotate forward in Olympic order.
[ top... ]
There are a ton of Tide fans here
[ 6:31 PM, 02/08/03 ]
including two guys from Tuscaloosa who were skiiing and decided to come along for the main event. The Sterners, Bayers (entire family, including auntie and brother), Holdefers, and Hrozeks are here yelling Roll Tide Roll as the ladies leave the arena to prepare for the march out. Former Alabama All American and National Champion (1988) Cheri Way and her daughter had lunch with the Tide entourage today and will be here as well. Several alumni are in town for the meet as well and the number was 59 on the pass list! Now that's major support for your Rolling Tide.
