Happy Valentine's Day Bama Nation [ 8:43 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and we will see you online next Friday night as the Tide takes on the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Let's have a great crowd on their return March 1, 2003 at 7 pm as they take on the Auburn Tigers here in Coleman Coliseum. Roll Tide!

[ top... ]
Bama gets a 49.425 on the floor with some great routines [ 8:38 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and they win this dual meet with a final tally of 197.400. LSU finishes at 193.800. Sterner wins the all around with a 39.675 (career record) with Shannon Hrozek in second at 39.400.

[ top... ]
Kite gets a 9.85 and Sterner-meister is through her first big time [ 8:34 PM, 02/14/03 ]

double pike with a huge grin. Ooooh! New dance moves! She is breathing to prepare for her final double pike. She is through this one big time, and the gals are there to greet her! She gets a 9.925. The Tide wins this one with very solid routines overall and some unusual steps out of bounds to go along with it. That will get the nerves going. The Pattersons are getting roses from the Medalist Club for their first 25 years with the Tide and now the awards ceremony will commence.

[ top... ]
Martinjak gets a 9.300 for her beam routine and L'Heureux just fell on [ 8:33 PM, 02/14/03 ]

her flight series. We've all had rough nights like this, the Tigers will grow from this. They, like Bama, have alot of routines from freshmen, so they will take this in stride.

[ top... ]
Reeser gets a 9.95! Her second highest score ever! [ 8:31 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Kite is through her opening pass and just avoids the tape line as she lands the punch front out of the front to a double full combination. Yahoo! She finishes strongly.

[ top... ]
Companioni gets a 9.225 and Martinjak just fell on her flight series. [ 8:30 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Nice switch leap to wolf to straddle 3/4 leap series and a one handed back walkover. She dismounts with a double twist.

[ top... ]
Hrozek gets a 9.95! Her highest ever. [ 8:28 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Reeser is through her first pass, a rock solid double pike and she is smiling all the way as she completes the second pass (front, front full, front). She ends with a front, front, barani half, layout-step-out and does a new dance move at the end before saluting the Ten Troupe with a grin. They respond with a standing ovation! Roll Tide!

[ top... ]
Jenkins gets a 9.800 for her beam set and Companioni is now on [ 8:26 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and through her flight series. She is very steady on the beam and grins most of the way. She had a great routine going until the dismount, when she slipped on the front full and had to touch down to her back.

[ top... ]
Hrozek nails her double pike and her second pass! [ 8:24 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Now she is boogeying with the Ten Troupe and inviting the rest of the crowd to join in as she finishes up with a magnificent double tuck, just nailed it! The team engulfs her at the end. Great surprise final element, sophomore!

[ top... ]
Rachael just has too much power tonight and goes out of bounds [ 8:22 PM, 02/14/03 ]

on her third pass as well. Oh well, you can't win em all. She'll be working on that corner landing over the next week, you can betcha! Durning gets a 9.80 for her beam and Beddow a 9.125. Jenkins is doing pretty good so far after almost falling back on the side Somi and she lands the front full dismount very well indeed. Delahoussaye gets a 9.50 for her floor after the mandatory deductions for going out of bounds on pass two and three.

[ top... ]
Durning is through her beam routine and Delahoussaye is up next [ 8:19 PM, 02/14/03 ]

in place of Filetti (rough warm ups). Holdefer gets a 9.75 for her floor routine. Rachael is through her first pass just beautifully and the crowd is getting into the music. Delahoussaye is totally off center on the second pass and ends up going out of bounds as well! ARGH!

[ top... ]
Holdefer steps over the line after her first pass of a super high double [ 8:18 PM, 02/14/03 ]

pike and the judge caught it, raising her hand. She completes the second pass with a high double tuck, no problem. She finishes with another double tuck, landed very well. Automatic one tenth for going out of bounds.

[ top... ]
Lindsay Beddow is up first for LSU on the beam. [ 8:16 PM, 02/14/03 ]

She falls on her flight series but the Tide crowd gets her back on with encouraging claps. Nice Miller and a tick tock. She dismounts with a running front tuck full.

[ top... ]
Bama had a 49.275 on the balance beam and has a running score [ 8:15 PM, 02/14/03 ]

of 147.975 while LSU had a 48.900 on the floor and a running score of 146.375.

[ top... ]
Larissa Stewart's beam routine had one tenth deducted [ 8:10 PM, 02/14/03 ]

because both judges started it from a 9.80 (perhaps due to the mount and dismount not being at least a "C" value?). We will check with the coaches on this because her routine was flawlessly executed.

[ top... ]
Rice gets a 9.85 for her beam routine and Companioni is finishing up on [ 8:07 PM, 02/14/03 ]

floor for the Tigers. The crowd likes this routine as well and cheer her warmly. Larissa Stewart is now up on the beam. Rararuss is telling her to throw a good one for the folks back in Oklahoma. She is through her flight series beautifully as well as the switch leap to wolf full to tuck full combo. Awesome! She is on fire tonight! Two front aerials, magnificently thrown in combination and she will dismount after some more dance moves by throwing a round off to layout, no movement on the landing. WOW!

[ top... ]
Rice is now up to finish up for the Tide on the balance beam. [ 8:05 PM, 02/14/03 ]

She wows the crowd with a little bobble on the two layouts but grins in response as she moves into her wolf full. She finishes with a double twist and the Tide can now relax and move into the floor with extra confidence after going 6 for 6!

[ top... ]
Brown gets a 9.65 on the floor and Jade Jenkins is up next. [ 8:03 PM, 02/14/03 ]

She opens with a double tuck (form is loose but nice height) and she has a second tuck for her next pass as well. She finishes with a double twist. The crowd likes this routine and applauds her heartily. Sterner gets a 9.925!

[ top... ]
Sterner-meister is through her flight series with a big grin. [ 8:02 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Two straddle leaps look great and the 3/4 switch leap, as well as the wolf to standing pike (crowd whoops and hollers in glee) and she dismounts with a double pike, one foot back. YEAH!

[ top... ]
Franzella gets a 9.800 for her floor routine [ 8:00 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and Brown is up next with a booming double pike opening pass and some groovy dancing. She bounces out of her double tuck on her second pass but does not have to touch her hands down. She has a slip on the third pass (three front handsprings) but completes the routine overall without a fall. Delahoussaye gets a 9.75!

[ top... ]
Rachael Delahoussay is now up on beam and just bent [ 7:58 PM, 02/14/03 ]

at the waist on her layout (flight series, second element) but the leaps are looking very nice, as well as the dance and overall presentation. She also throws a switch leap to wolf jump and dismounts with a gainer pike, which she nails! Happy gal!

[ top... ]
Beddow gets a 9.65 on floor and Franzella is up next on floor for LSU. [ 7:57 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Hrozek gets a 9.875 for her beam.

[ top... ]
Lindsay Beddow has just finished on the floor [ 7:55 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and Hrozek is now up on the balance beam. She is through her flight series and gymacro series with no trouble. Hitch kick to sheep jump combo is right on and the switch leap to wolf looks mighty nice. She dismounts with a double twist, nailing the landing. That's the routine we've been looking for since Nebraska! Yowza!

[ top... ]
Richard receives a 9.75 on the floor [ 7:52 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and Pierce has just completed a nice beam set with a slight bend at the waist on her layout (second element of her flight series) but the rest of the routine was rock solid. She receives a 9.775.

[ top... ]
Richard opens with a front, front full, front and her [ 7:51 PM, 02/14/03 ]

second pass is also front tumbling, front, front full front pike and she ends with three fronts on her last pass to the Matrix music.

[ top... ]
Very nice amplitude on the three leap series and she dismounts [ 7:50 PM, 02/14/03 ]

with a back handspring to layout full off the side of the beam for a 9.85. Roll Tide! Chelsea Richard is up first on the floor for the Bengal Tigers.

[ top... ]
Reeser is through her flight series and is working up on her toes for [ 7:49 PM, 02/14/03 ]

extra effect with the switch leap to wolf jump combination.

[ top... ]
Will we see Larissa Stewart exhibit on the beam tonight? [ 7:48 PM, 02/14/03 ]

The coaches keep mixing in new faces in the line-up and the ladies are responding well so far. Michelle Reeser is up first for the Tide on the balance beam.

[ top... ]
The Tide has a running score of 98.700 and LSU a 97.475. [ 7:46 PM, 02/14/03 ]

The Tide must keep it going on the beam to ice this one. ROCKY is being played by the current #1 collegiate band in the USA! Gonna fly now....

[ top... ]
Bama gets it together on the uneven bars for a 49.400! [ 7:44 PM, 02/14/03 ]

LSU has a total of 48.825 on the vault.

[ top... ]
Rice had a beautiful routine going but had to take a step back to [ 7:42 PM, 02/14/03 ]

stop the momentum of her full in dismount. Beautiful form throughout, including the inverted giants and the Tkatchev release. Companioni of LSU gets a 9.725 for her front pike and Brown gets a 9.875 for her pike 1/2 twist. Rice gets a 9.90.

[ top... ]
Dana Filetti just threw her very difficult routine, including a booming Gienger [ 7:41 PM, 02/14/03 ]

release and the 1 1/2 to a double front, incredible distance from the bars. Bama just will not let adversity get to them, they dig deeper and deeper and come up with some incredible performances. Filetti gets a 9.85.

[ top... ]
Sterner-meister threw her best bars routine of the year [ 7:40 PM, 02/14/03 ]

by reaching all of her handstands and nailing both release moves and the dismount for a 9.925.

[ top... ]
Larissa Stewart just threw a stupendous bars routine, accentuating it [ 7:38 PM, 02/14/03 ]

with a stuck double layout that sent the crowd roaring with approval! She receives a 9.875. L'Heureux just threw a very difficult double twist but landed it awkwardly, scoring a 9.725.

[ top... ]
Reeser hits her routine well, including the Tkatchev release [ 7:36 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and the dismount for a 9.80. Martinjak lands her front pike very well for a 9.775.

[ top... ]
Durning gets a 9.725 and Jenkins throws a front with a half tuck [ 7:35 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and lands it to the right with one step to stop her momentum. She receives 9.675. Hrozek gets a 9.85.

[ top... ]
Hrozek hits her Gienger and all of her handstands [ 7:35 PM, 02/14/03 ]

but lands the double tuck bent forward, fighting for that landing.

[ top... ]
Bama will start with Hrozek on the bars and LSU with Durning on vault. [ 7:30 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Durning vaults a half on half off front tuck, nice landing.

[ top... ]
The Tide has a 49.300 on the vault [ 7:28 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and LSU a 48.650 on the uneven bars.

[ top... ]
Beddow gets a 9.85 on the bars [ 7:26 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and Katherine Hilton will finish up for the Tigers. She throws a booming Tkatchev and falls during the release over the high bar. LSU will have to count a fall. The crowd gives a nice applause for her recovery and landing. Bama moves to the bars next and the Tigers to the vault. The Tide must be brave to start putting this meet away early.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice will finish up for the Tide on vault and [ 7:25 PM, 02/14/03 ]

[ top... ]
Lauren Holdefer [ 7:16 PM, 02/14/03 ]

just fell on her foo foo for the first vault (never, ever have we seen her miss a vault in three years, she's been that consistent). The double pike in the air was held a little too long. LSU just completed a solid first routine by L'Heureux on the bars.

ladies are introduced. Big Al is getting a little close to that firecracker!

[ top... ]
B-A-M-A! BAMA! BAMA! [ 7:03 PM, 02/14/03 ]

All right Tide let's go!

[ top... ]
LSU is being introduced first and they have a small [ 7:01 PM, 02/14/03 ]

crowd of about 10 fans to our back and far right cheering the Bengal Tigers.

[ top... ]
Now the crowd is getting into it with "Yeah Alabama!" [ 6:59 PM, 02/14/03 ]

There's just something about that song. The Ten Troupe is up on their feet welcoming the Tide Tykes, who will walk out to welcome the gymnasts as they greet the crowd.

[ top... ]
Big Al is now waving the green flag in one of the vault judge's faces! [ 6:58 PM, 02/14/03 ]

That's a no no. Automatic deduction of 5 tenths.

[ top... ]
Big Al is getting ready to mount the bars for some arm lifts. [ 6:57 PM, 02/14/03 ]

He dismounts with a salute to the crowd, begging for the 10. The judges were amused. He is now trying to impress the vault judges by falling off the vacant chair next to them. They grin in response.

[ top... ]
The Bama Cheerleaders are rocking to the Million Dollar Band's [ 6:53 PM, 02/14/03 ]

great music. The Tide's baseball team won today as well as the softball team. Let's keep it rolling with a victory tonight over LSU and tomorrow with a basketball victory here in Coleman over Aubie.

[ top... ]
Great performance by the Bama Bounders [ 6:47 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and the crowd gives them a very warm reception as they march off.

[ top... ]
The Big A has been rolled out and Big Al is climbing Mt. Vault [ 6:45 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and gets a hearty round of applause for his efforts. The Bama Bounders are taking to the floor to demonstrate some great gymnastics of their own for the Tide faithful.

[ top... ]
Bama is heading to the locker room to prepare for the walkout. [ 6:43 PM, 02/14/03 ]

The crowd is filtering in slowly but they are stretched almost to the very top so hopefully the lower levels will be filling in shortly.

[ top... ]
Delahoussaye is throwing her great routine to Elton John's [ 6:38 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Funeral for a Friend. Must have been a favorite of dear ole dad's. Rachael, along with Mari Bayer and Dana Filetti, will be featured in the Medalist Newsletter coming to a mailbox near you in the next week IF you are a member. Just one of the many great perks you get for joining the booster club. The ladies tell us stuff in these interviews that the newspapers never hear about, so join up to get all the scoop.

[ top... ]
Holdefer Hangs One High! [ 6:37 PM, 02/14/03 ]

A great double pike with a super landing. The Tide is ready to get this one started.

[ top... ]
Filetti just threw a 2 1/2 twist and Hrozek a double tuck [ 6:36 PM, 02/14/03 ]

by mistake (with a grin up at Bryan when she finished). Sterner-meister looks like she is sporting some blonde highlights tonight.

[ top... ]
WOW! Kite with a Capital K! [ 6:31 PM, 02/14/03 ]

She nails the mega difficult front through to a double full to a punch front and Sterner just nailed her double pike, just like the Romanians.

[ top... ]
The Tide moves to the floor next to warm up. [ 6:27 PM, 02/14/03 ]

Filetti, Sterner, Reeser, Holdefer, Hrozek, Delahoussaye, Kite and Rice are throwing the moves. Nice whip to double full from Jeana Rice. What a competitor. Nice, tight double pike from Hrozek, no sliding on the landing this week.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice was suffering a bout of the flu bug earlier this week but [ 6:25 PM, 02/14/03 ]

she has worked all of the events so far in the long warm-ups and is looking good. Hrozek is struggling a bit on her flight series on beam but pulls it around nicely during the second attempt.

[ top... ]
Bama is working on balance beam at this time [ 6:23 PM, 02/14/03 ]

and we are watching Rachael Delahoussaye and Shannon Hrozek go through their moves. Dana Pierce was working well on the uneven bars earlier and has changed her dismount for tonight (back somersault off the high bar). We should see several exhibitions tonight perhaps on all four events from the Tide as the coaches continue to build depth.

[ top... ]
Let's Rock and Roll Bama Nation! [ 6:22 PM, 02/14/03 ]

We are back home in Tuscaloosa, getting ready to watch the Tide take on the Tigers from LSU in a fierce competition tonight. The weather turned out much better late this afternoon and we hope that the crowd will follow us here to Coleman Coliseum for some terrific gymnastics.
