[ top... ]
We will see you next week hopefully before a packed house. Roll Tide [ 9:14 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and goodnight from Baton Rouge.

[ top... ]
The Tide ladies just about jumped through the roof when the final [ 9:11 PM, 01/23/04 ]

scores were called out, as the coaches did not tell them (sneaky). The LSU band is playing the alma mater as the crowd slowly trickles out. They have much to look forward to tomorrow as they will be celebrating Mike the Tiger's National Championship in Football for 2003.

[ top... ]
April Burkholder won the all around (Jeana did not go all around tonight) [ 9:10 PM, 01/23/04 ]

with a score of 39.400.

[ top... ]
Vault: won by Ashley Miles (9.95), Alexis (9.925) Jeana (9.90). [ 9:02 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Bars: Annie Gagnon (3rd), Brittany Comeaux of UA (9.925) and Jeana (9.975)of UA.

Beam: Michelle Reeser of UA (9.875), Lisa Rennie of LSU (9.925) and won by Jeana (9.950).

Floor: Alexis Brion (9.90), Ashley Miles (9.975) and April Burkholder (10.00).

[ top... ]
Rachael Delahoussaye and Katherine Hilton of LSU are hugging each [ 8:59 PM, 01/23/04 ]

other tightly as the teams mingle and congratulate each other for a great performance. They are former club mates. Alabama had a total on the beam tonight of 49.375 and this was due to gut-checking big-time by Shannon Hrozek, Mari Bayer and Jeana Rice after Dana Pierce fell on her mount. That's the way a team takes care of each other.

[ top... ]
LSU finishes with a 196.750 to Alabama's 197.600 [ 8:56 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Alabama comes away with a huge road score and great experience for the newcomers in a tough environment. And they still have lots of tumbling yet to show the fans. We need the crowd to show up next week against the Gators at home in T-Town to support the ladies in a big way. Bama is now 7-0 and 1-0 in the SEC. More to follow.

[ top... ]
Erin Rightley gets a 9.725 for her exhibition routine. Yeah freshman! [ 8:55 PM, 01/23/04 ]

You have now been baptized by fire in the Tiger arena.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice just threw a stupendous routine for a 9.95. Gorgeous [ 8:52 PM, 01/23/04 ]

flight series, wolf full and the landing of the double twist was on a dime. Fantastic! Bama finishes with a 197.600. Great road score. April Burkholder just got a 10 for her floor routine and while the crowd was cheering, freshman Erin Rightley just calmly sailed through her beam routine like a walk in the park! This is important because she could not hit her flight series during warm-ups at all! And she just did a fantastic job. She gets a big hug from the ladies and the coaches as well.

[ top... ]
Mari Bayer gets a 9.850 (one judge gave her a 9.90) [ 8:48 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and Brittany Brown gets a 9.875 (nailed her double pike in place and the double tuck but had split legs on the final series that the head judge could see right down the line). Nice funky dance moves in this routine.

[ top... ]
Mari Bayer is now up for the Tide on the beam [ 8:46 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and is through her flight series (front aerial to immediate back handspring to Korbut). She has a little trouble on the leap series of a switch leap to straddle (bends at the waist on landing of the second element)but confidently completes the switch leap to gainer back pike dismount, nailing the landing. Awesome! We needed that one!

[ top... ]
Shannon gets a 9.850 for her beam routine. [ 8:44 PM, 01/23/04 ]

[ top... ]
Lisa Rennie gets a 9.825 for her floor routine. [ 8:44 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Terin Martinjak is through her double pike opening pass.

[ top... ]
Shannon is through her flight series with a huge smile. The leap series [ 8:42 PM, 01/23/04 ]

looks great and the hitch kick to sheep jump is also solid. Shannon is really on with this routine and will dismount with a double twist, landed very well! Whoosh!

[ top... ]
Pierce gets a 9.225 for her beam routine and the door is opening wider. [ 8:41 PM, 01/23/04 ]

We need our junior All American to stay on that beam and show us some leadership!

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce is now up for the Tide and falls on the mount! [ 8:38 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Unbelievable! She throws the switch leap combination with no problem and then the flight series of a two-footed bhs-layout (slight bend over at the shoulder) and the other leap series well, dismounting with a round off to full twist, one step forward. Phelan gets a 9.875 for her floor routine.

[ top... ]
Lea gets a 9.625 for her floor routine. [ 8:37 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Rachael gets a 9.85! Kelly Phelan opens with a double pike, rather large step back on the landing but the dance is nifty and creative.

[ top... ]
Rachael Delahoussaye is now up and through her terrific wolf full, [ 8:36 PM, 01/23/04 ]

landed on a dime, as is her flight series of the bhs-layout and the gymacro series of wolf jump to Korbut (toes pointed!). Another leap series (switch leap to wolf) and the cartwheel down onto the beam before she moves to dismount with a gainer back pike, landed well!

[ top... ]
Michelle Reeser gets a 9.875! [ 8:35 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Lea finishes on floor with two front layouts and the Tiger paw salute to the judges.

[ top... ]
Kelly Lea is up first for the Tigers on the floor, where she opens with a [ 8:34 PM, 01/23/04 ]

double pike, landed well. Her second pass is not landed so well, a double tuck, bent down and almost to the ground but she saves it.

[ top... ]
Michelle is through her flight series (bhs-layout-Korbut) [ 8:32 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and the switch leap to wolf jump, cartwheel down onto the beam. She also throws a nice switch leap to straddle jump combination and dismounts with a bhs-gainer full twist, nailing the landing. Yahoo!

[ top... ]
Tonight's crowd is 4,170, the second largest in LSU gymnastics history. [ 8:28 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Michelle Reeser will start us off on the beam. Patti Hannan and Sharon Weber are the beam judges for tonight, by the way.

[ top... ]
Let's go Tide! CONFIDENCE! [ 8:27 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Six for six on the beam is what we need to seal this one and punch in a big score. No mercy!

[ top... ]
Johnna Gay nails her opening pass of a 2 1/2 and is really selling [ 8:24 PM, 01/23/04 ]

this routine. She finishes with a beautiful double twist and her team mates engulf her.

[ top... ]
Erin Rightley is now exhibiting her routine, opening with a front through to [ 8:22 PM, 01/23/04 ]

a 1 1/2. Her second pass is a front, front full to front pike. She finishes with a double twist, slightly popped out. So no double pike, which is gorgeous when she throws one. She has had problems keeping it in bounds, so they mainly wanted her to get the experience in front of a hostile crowd. Johnna Gay is now up.

[ top... ]
Bama gets a 49.450 on the floor and LSU gets a 49.150 on the beam. [ 8:21 PM, 01/23/04 ]

The Tide has a running total of 148.225 and LSU has a 147.300.

[ top... ]
Stephanie Kite gets a 9.90! Welcome back senior! [ 8:18 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Ashley Miles is now opening up with her double layout and the crowd goes "AHHHHHH". She is now through her second pass and is throwing some really cool new dance moves, selling it for the crowd. The Bama home crowd is going to really love this routine. It has a digital "Yeah Alabama" part to the music that is really cool and the ROTC guys really got into this. She receives one 10 and a 9.95 for a final score of 9.975.

[ top... ]
Phelan gets a 9.80 and D-D is protesting. The judges may not have [ 8:16 PM, 01/23/04 ]

given her full credit on the gymacro series because she did hesitate between the second and third element. Burkholder has very nice difficulty but has already bent at the waist twice on her flight series (third element) and on the side somi. She dismounts with a double tuck, hop back.

[ top... ]
CONFIDENCE! [ 8:15 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Perfect opening pass this week from Steph, the "E" pass of a front handspring to front double full to front punch. The second pass is a round off to whip 1/2 to two front layouts, landed confidently as well. She finishes strongly and on time with the music. Way to go!

[ top... ]
Brion gets a 9.90! [ 8:13 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Stephanie Kite is next. Phelan has a nice punch front to wolf jump to Korbut combination. Just a little hesitation on these but she dismounts with a double twist, one hop back. Nice routine for a freshman's first at home.

[ top... ]
Terin gets a 9.825 [ 8:13 PM, 01/23/04 ]

for her beam routine and Kelly Phelan is up next.

[ top... ]
WHOOOOOO! says the crowd after Alexis completes her sky high [ 8:11 PM, 01/23/04 ]

first pass and then nails her second one. She finishes with a double tuck and greets the head judge with a beaming smile.

[ top... ]
Alexis Brion is up next for the Tide on the floor. Let's get those big [ 8:10 PM, 01/23/04 ]

scores going Tide! Mike the Tiger is catching up.

[ top... ]
Terin Martinjak is through her flight series (bhs-layout) [ 8:10 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and Mari Bayer gets a 9.850 for her floor.

[ top... ]
Rennie dismounts with a layout full twist. [ 8:07 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Mari Bayer is now through her opening pass of a double pike and a second pass of a front-front full-front tuck. Nice leaps and dance go hand in hand with a huge smile all the way. She finishes strong with two front layouts. Rennie gets a 9.925 for her beam. Big score.

[ top... ]
Jade Jenkins of LSU gets a 9.750 for her beam routine, which included [ 8:06 PM, 01/23/04 ]

a difficult side somi. Lisa Rennie is now up. She is a freshman and completes her flight series with no problem (bhs-bhs-layout). She throws a pike leap to immediate Korbut. Dana Pierce gets a 9.825 for her floor routine. We will take it!

[ top... ]
So next we have Dana Pierce with her new routine and we'll have to see [ 8:03 PM, 01/23/04 ]

how she responds to the pressure of following her teammate after a fall. She opens with a double pike. Perfect! SMILE! Her second pass is a front handspring to two front layouts. She is really selling this routine and finishes with a double twist. Terrific!

[ top... ]
Lauren Holdefer is through her first tumbling pass (double tuck) and is [ 8:01 PM, 01/23/04 ]

now dancing before her second pass (front handspring, front full to front tuck) which she sits down. She lands the third pass with no trouble (double tuck). She was having trouble with the second pass in warm up and was not running fast or hard enough to propel her forward motion enough to stay on her feet. Beddow gets a 9.800 for her beam routine so Bama is already letting the door open. Let's see if the remaining ladies can shut it firmly.

[ top... ]
Lindsay Beddow is through her flight series (bhs-bhs-layout) with just [ 7:59 PM, 01/23/04 ]

a tiny wobble but she has a little trouble on her leap series, so that will be a slight deduction. She dismounts solidly and the crowd roars.

[ top... ]
Bama needs to stay in bounds and stand up their tumbling passes [ 7:57 PM, 01/23/04 ]

to send Mike the Tiger into orbit. He won't be allowed to return until Jeana nails her beam routine and the meet. How's that for a scenario? Salto is languishing at home, watching this meet by internet. Stay hungry and maybe we'll give you more details about the meet in a moment.

[ top... ]
On the floor tonight we will see Dana Pierce for the first time [ 7:55 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and a new routine by Ashley Miles. Mari Bayer, Alexis Brion, Stephanie Kite and Lauren Holdefer will round out the line-up.

[ top... ]
So now we move to the floor exercise for the Tide and the beam [ 7:50 PM, 01/23/04 ]

for the Tigers. Alabama leads by .575 but must kick it up a notch on the floor to get the highest total score possible and allow some comfort room for the balance beam.

[ top... ]
Katherine Hilton completes her routine with no major problems but [ 7:47 PM, 01/23/04 ]

missed her handstands. She gets a 9.800 as a result. 49.050 total on the bars for the Tigers and a 98.200 running total to the Tide's 98.775.

[ top... ]
Lisa Rennie of LSU gets a 9.850 for her bars routine [ 7:45 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and Ashley Miles will finish up on the vault for the Tide. A powerful Yurchenko 1/1, that she landed superbly for a 9.950. Bama has a total of 49.375 on the vault. Annie Gagnon has a 9.90 for her bars routine.

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce gets a 9.775 and Hrozek a 9.725 [ 7:43 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and it seems that Hrozek was definitely off center in the landing of her vault but she stood it up very well. Pierce piked hers down though she stuck the landing. Brion just nailed hers for a 9.925.

[ top... ]
Lindsay Beddow also is having significant problems on her bars routine [ 7:41 PM, 01/23/04 ]

(reverse giant uprise went over past the high bar and she separated her legs and had to take a few extra swings to keep from falling). She dismounts with a double tuck and gets a 9.650.

[ top... ]
April Burkholder struggled on her bars routine and there will be a [ 7:39 PM, 01/23/04 ]

deduction as she sort of got lost on her final preparation prior to her dismount (double layout, landed low and forward) for a 9.750.

[ top... ]
Yeah Filetti! One step to the left on her full twist on back pike off out of [ 7:38 PM, 01/23/04 ]

a Yurchenko entry. The uneven bars by L'Heureux scored a 9.750. Filetti gets a 9.825.

[ top... ]
Rikki is on bars for the Tigers [ 7:37 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and Jeana Rice just got a 9.90 for her vault.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice vaults a Yurchenko 1/1. CONFIDENCE! [ 7:36 PM, 01/23/04 ]

She nails the vault in a way only Rice can nail it, great form, extension and toe point.

[ top... ]
Bama will go next on vault while LSU moves to the uneven bars. [ 7:29 PM, 01/23/04 ]

We will see Jeana start us off, Dana Filetti next, then Shannon, Dana Pierce, Alexis and Ashley in the clean up spot. We need six terrific vaults to pump the score up even more. Let's go Jeana!

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce is exhibiting her routine on the bars and she just [ 7:27 PM, 01/23/04 ]

completed the two inverted giants and the Tkatchev with no problems. She stuck the dismount of a reverse tuck off the high bar. Way to go!

[ top... ]
Nicki Butler of LSU gets a 9.825 for her vault (Yurchenko 1/1) [ 7:24 PM, 01/23/04 ]

and Brittany Comeaux just stuck her double front dismount with great distance for a 9.925. Jeana Rice just nailed her bars routine, including the landing of the full in for a 9.975. The Tide has a total of 49.400 to LSU's 49.150 on the vault.

[ top... ]
Kelly Phelan of LSU got a 9.825 for her vault and the huge cheer you [ 7:23 PM, 01/23/04 ]

hear is from the Bama crowd as Brittany Comeaux gets ready to do her routine. Mari got a 9.150 for her routine.

[ top... ]
Ashley gets a 9.850 for her bars. [ 7:18 PM, 01/23/04 ]

A super routine by Dana Filetti next, reaching her handstands, throwing a very nice Gienger release and standing up the double front dismount with one small step in place for a 9.775. Simply said, the judges are keeping the scoring very tight on the bars. Shannon Hrozek completes her routine for a 9.875 and she had to stick the landing chest-high to get this. Mari Bayer falls on her pike Jaeger release but finishes strongly.

[ top... ]
Brittany Brown vaults a front pike 1/2 twist, landed well, bent a bit at waist. [ 7:16 PM, 01/23/04 ]

Ashley Miles just nailed her bars routine, we mean nailed it and the 12 LSU guys standing up across the way in the corner immediately start booing to try and drown out the Tide crowd cheering loudly next to them. They must think this is a football meet!

[ top... ]
Ashley Miles will start us off on the bars as soon as the band stops [ 7:15 PM, 01/23/04 ]

playing and allows the first LSU gymnast to vault (Brittany Brown).

[ top... ]
Fashion Report! [ 7:14 PM, 01/23/04 ]

LSU has a nice black and purple sequined outfit on, with a yellow lightening design on the bodice that makes you want to shout "Shazaam!" Bama is decked out in their SEC Championships outfit, the silver and deep burgundy leo that looks great on all of the gals.

[ top... ]
LSU has a lively crowd here tonight as they are preparing to celebrate [ 7:12 PM, 01/23/04 ]

their national championship title in football tomorrow at 12 noon. Some of the fans who are camping out for this celebration have spilled into this meet. We always love a rowdy crowd, it gets the team prepared for championship season. And the Super Six Challenge was pretty vocal at Tuscaloosa, with 9,817 attending that night.

[ top... ]
Some new faces will be performing tonight for Alabama. [ 7:09 PM, 01/23/04 ]

The Tide will be mixing the line-up a bit on the floor exercise tonight but we expect to see the same line-up on vault, bars and beam.

[ top... ]
LSU has once again invited the ROTC boys in to help pack the [ 6:59 PM, 01/23/04 ]

lower seats and they have a designated student section across the way that they have entitled "Geaux Zone". Mike the Tiger leads the ladies in with smoke trailing.

[ top... ]
Hello Bama Nation, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana! [ 6:57 PM, 01/23/04 ]

The Tide ladies are being introduced as we begin our on line commentary and the hometown girls have a large crowd of supporters here yelling as they call their names out (Rachael Delahoussaye, Michelle Reeser and Brittany Comeaux). Roll Tide!
