Bama hits the road again next Friday Night [ 9:26 PM, 01/30/04 ]

to take on the Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Alabama. We will be on line hopefully by 6 pm and have all the action for you at that time.

Bama is getting stronger on the vault now that Shannon Hrozek is nailing that Yurchenko 1/1 and Brittany Comeaux is right behind her, ready to step in to spell another gal in the coming weeks. Let's have a big crowd roll on down there to Toomers' Corner and support the gals with us next week if you can. Roll Tide and goodnight from Coleman Coliseum.

[ top... ]
Great Attendance Tonight: 11, 380 [ 9:23 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Let's pack in a sell out in three weeks as the Dawgs of UGA come back into town. Roll Tide!

[ top... ]
Final Team Scores [ 9:22 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Alabama: 197.925

Florida: 196.125

[ top... ]
All Around Winners for the Meet: [ 9:21 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Szmuch (3rd), Dooley (2nd), Rice (1st: 39.700)

[ top... ]
Vault Top Three: Jeana (9.90), Alexis (9.95), Ashley (10.00) [ 9:18 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Bars Top Three: Erin Pendleton (UF) and Shannon Hrozek; Ashley Miles (2nd) and Jeana Rice (1st)

Beam: Katie Rue (9.90), Erinn Dooley (9.925) and Jeana Rice (9.925)

Floor: Alexis Brion (9.925), Jeana Rice (9.925) and Ashley Miles (9.975)

[ top... ]
Michelle Reeser just exhibited her floor routine and did a great job as [ 9:16 PM, 01/30/04 ]

well. Well done team! Stucky got a 8.350 for her beam so the score of a 9.125 by Pendleton will have to be counted for the Gators.

[ top... ]
Ashley Miles is incredible. She just introduced her new routine to the [ 9:12 PM, 01/30/04 ]

home crowd and they went literally wild. She receives a 9.975. A few fans were dissatisfied with her not getting a perfect 10 but Ashley is happy since she is still perfecting some of the new moves.

[ top... ]
Stucky is now off the beam after the Onodi was missed. She just fell [ 9:10 PM, 01/30/04 ]

again on the switch leap to wolf full and the crowd is cheering her on with encouragement, appreciating her awesome difficulty and the beautiful form.

[ top... ]
Stephanie Kite is through her opening pass of a front-double full-punch [ 9:08 PM, 01/30/04 ]

front and the second and third passes with no significant problems. She gets a 9.875. Dooley gets a 9.925 for her beam routine. Erin Pendleton received a 9.125 for her beam. Stucky is now up.

[ top... ]
Brion Brings It Home! Wowee! 9.925! [ 9:06 PM, 01/30/04 ]

How does she tumble so high with such a petite frame? It's in the genes. Just ask mom and dad. Erinn Dooley is on the beam with her front punch to wolf mount. Flight series looks solid and the leap series but she holds off another leap combination at the end and dismounts with a gainer layout off the side. Nice routine.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice gets a 9.925! [ 9:04 PM, 01/30/04 ]

A slight deduction for the step forward out of her front tumbling pass (third element - front pike). Alexis Brion is through her opening tumbling series with no problem (whip to double tuck)and the second pass has incredible air time. She is selling it now!

[ top... ]
Breanne King of Florida gets a 9.700 and Pendleton of UF just fell on her [ 9:04 PM, 01/30/04 ]

flight series, so they will have to count the 9.700.

[ top... ]
Bayer gets a 9.90 for her great dance and tumbling [ 9:01 PM, 01/30/04 ]

and Jeana Rice is through her pike full in and the second front tumbling pass with no problem. She finishes with a whip to double twist, landed perfectly.

[ top... ]
King stumbles on her side Somi out of the front aerial and this will be at [ 9:00 PM, 01/30/04 ]

least a 2-3 tenths deduction. But what difficulty! These freshmen for UF are very confident. She dismounts with a double twist but her form is loose and she hops back, so this also will be deducted.

[ top... ]
Mari Bayer is through her opening pass of a double pike (a scoot back) [ 8:59 PM, 01/30/04 ]

and the second pass (front-front full-front tuck) and finishes with two front layouts, bent a little on the last salto but she stands it up. Rue gets a 9.90 for her beam routine.

[ top... ]
Szmuch gets a 9.850 for her beam. [ 8:57 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Katie Rue just threw a bhs-layout-layout and landed it well; also a side Somi, just a little balance check; two straddle jumps to a beam drop; gainer tuck full off the beam end, landed well. Such confidence for a freshman.

[ top... ]
Lauren Holdefer is up first on the floor, opening with a double tuck, [ 8:56 PM, 01/30/04 ]

nice and high. Her second pass is a front to two front layouts, landed beautifully this week. She finishes with a double tuck, landed well also. The crowd roars!

[ top... ]
Orley Szmuch starts the Gators off on the beam with two layouts [ 8:54 PM, 01/30/04 ]

out of a handstand. Very nice. Hitch kick to wolf jump, full turn, hitch kick to side split leap, a little low but she dismounts with a double tuck, one step back and just a little loose on the form of that tuck. Terrific confidence.

[ top... ]
The Million Dollar Band is kicking tonight! [ 8:51 PM, 01/30/04 ]

The YMCA Dads are boogeying bigtime. The crowd wants a decisive victory with six fantastic floor routines to boost that score even higher. We just want our ladies to be safe and healthy after another tough meet. Let's ROLLLLLL!

[ top... ]
Alabama has a 49.250 on the beam, running total of 148.325 [ 8:48 PM, 01/30/04 ]

while Florida has a total on floor of: 49.175 and a running total of 147.675.

[ top... ]
Chantelle Tousek is on the floor with an exhibition. Szmuch got a 9.825 [ 8:47 PM, 01/30/04 ]

for her floor routine. This score will come up in the next few weeks as she perfects that opening pass. Lots of difficulty. Erin Rightley of Alabama gets a 9.800 for her beam exhibition. Nice job freshman.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice gets a 9.925! [ 8:45 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Erin Rightley is looking fantastic on the beam with her exhibition, no nerves this week like two weeks ago. Looks like she's having fun up there. She finishes strong (round-off full twist, one hop).

[ top... ]
Szmuch is on the floor, opening with a double layout, also landed low [ 8:43 PM, 01/30/04 ]

but she stood it up! She finishes with a double tuck that she has to hop to the left a bit on to balance the landing.

[ top... ]
Mari Bayer gets a 9.875! [ 8:41 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Jeana Rice is through her leap series and her bhs-layout-layout flight series. OOOOOHHHH! Landed that last element so high she had to go up on her toes to save it. We've never seen that before! Looking great through the wolf full, gymacro and she nails the double twist dismount. So we will be able to drop that uncharacteristically low score of 9.675 for Delahoussaye.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek gets a 9.800 for her beam routine. [ 8:37 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Mari Bayer is now up for the Tide. She is through her flight series (front aerial-bhs-Korbut) and the front handspring to needle scale combination. The leap series (switch leap-straddle jump) is very nice this week and she dismounts with a switch leap to gainer back pike, nailed the landing. So difficult! Katie Rue gets a 9.800 for her floor routine. Savannah Evans is on the floor now and throws a 2 1/2 twist but bounds on the landing to the left, so this will be a deduction. She is dancing to Cotton Eyed Joe and finishes with front tumbling, a little loose in her landing forward of the final element.

[ top... ]
Katie Rue throws the double layout but lands it low and forward (just [ 8:36 PM, 01/30/04 ]

saves it). Music is "I Dream of Jeanie" to start and then "Jaws" and then "Go Gators". She has a second pass of a double pike (nice difficulty).

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce gets a 9.800 for her routine. Dooley finishes up well [ 8:34 PM, 01/30/04 ]

on the floor and crowd claps in appreciation. Shannon Hrozek is now up on the beam for the Tide and is perfect with her flight series (bhs-layout-bhs). She has some small bobbles and the ladies seem just a little nervous tonight, working hard for perfection. The crowd is cheering her on as she completes the rest of her leap series and dismounts with a double twist, which she lands very well. Four in the can, two to go.

[ top... ]
King gets a 9.875 for her floor. Dooley is up with her opening pass of a [ 8:33 PM, 01/30/04 ]

double pike to stereophonic Celtic music.

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce is through her switch leap combination and the flight [ 8:31 PM, 01/30/04 ]

series (bend over of the right shoulder a bit) but is really working the rest of this routine well and nails the dismount. Thank you!

[ top... ]
King is through her 2 1/2 twist to front pike opening pass and the second [ 8:30 PM, 01/30/04 ]

pass is a double twist; she finishes with a front-front full front pike. Nicely executed. Delahoussaye gets a 9.675 so we would like to drop this score if possible. Come on gals!

[ top... ]
Rachael is through her opening [ 8:28 PM, 01/30/04 ]

wolf full and the flight series looked just great until she just shifted on the landing and had to bend at the waist to stay on (3 tenths at least). She is looking solid on the rest of the moves (wolf to Korbut) and nails the dismount. Lutz gets a 9.800 for her floor.

[ top... ]
Reeser gets a 9.850 on the beam and Lutz finishes with a double twist. [ 8:27 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Rachael Delahoussaye is up next for the Tide. Let's push those scores up Louisiana gal!

[ top... ]
Michelle Reeser will start us off on the beam and must be brave. [ 8:24 PM, 01/30/04 ]

We need six strong scores to ice this one and relax on the floor. She is through her flight series and the rest of her routine is just great, including the dismount of a bhs to gainer full twist. Lutz is up first on the floor and opens with a double tuck on the stinger mat, landed well. She is dancing to AC/DC and throws a front hs-front full to front tuck.

[ top... ]
Alabama has a 49.500 on the bars and a running total of 99.075 while [ 8:19 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Florida has a total on vault of 49.150 and a running total of 98.500.

[ top... ]
Larissa Stewart is now exhibiting and "She's BACK!" Great routine, [ 8:17 PM, 01/30/04 ]

just a little soft on the legs during her inverted giants but she rocks that double layout dismount. All difficulty was in this routine from last year (two inverts, half turn to Tkatchev, double layout dismount). She receives a 9.75.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice! You the one! [ 8:16 PM, 01/30/04 ]

A great routine, just missed a perfect handstand on the transition to the low bar but rocked that full in dismount like only she can do it (with toes pointed). Tousek gets a 9.675 and Rice a 9.95!!

[ top... ]
Chantelle Tousek bounds forward on the landing of her Hristakieva [ 8:14 PM, 01/30/04 ]

and will be deducted accordingly. Filetti gets a 9.85! Yes.

[ top... ]
Szmuch does her Hristakieva but hops forward on the landing. Good [ 8:13 PM, 01/30/04 ]

distance and form though. Brittany Comeaux is through her routine, really sticks the landing of the double front for a 9.875, which matches Szmuch's score.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek gets a 9.90! Great form, extension, everything you [ 8:12 PM, 01/30/04 ]

could ask for. Dooley Gets a 9.800 for her vault.

[ top... ]
Lutz of UF gets a 9.750 for her front pike 1/2 twist and Dooley just [ 8:11 PM, 01/30/04 ]

threw a nice Hristakieva but had limited distance and took a step back towards the vault to balance her landing.

[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek is on fire tonight people! She just nailed that dismount [ 8:10 PM, 01/30/04 ]

like she did in Baton Rouge. Whoooo!

[ top... ]
Nice routine by Dana Pierce in lieu of Mari Bayer, who was struggling [ 8:09 PM, 01/30/04 ]

a bit in the long warm-ups. She completes the two inverted giants and her giant uprises on top of the bars but just misses the handstand on the transition to the low bar. One foot back on the landing of the dismount for a 9.825.

[ top... ]
King gets a 9.85 and Rue a 9.875 for the same vault. [ 8:08 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Ashley gets a 9.925!

[ top... ]
Ashley Miles, come on down!!! Another spectacular performance, with [ 8:06 PM, 01/30/04 ]

a stuck landing! Tommy Deas of the Tuscaloosa News says, "That's a 10!" just like he predicted on the vault (and he was right).

[ top... ]
Bama is leading with a 49.575 and UF has a total of [ 8:03 PM, 01/30/04 ]

49.350 on the bars. Breanne King will start UF off on the vault with a Yurchenko 1/1, landed solidly, limited distance however.

[ top... ]
Kristin Sterner is being introduced to the crowd as Bama's top [ 7:58 PM, 01/30/04 ]

scholar athlete from this past year. She receives the official post-graduate scholarship check in a huge size. The crowd roars its appreciation for four great years, which included 2 SEC Championships, 1 National Championship and numerous academic honors. Roll Tide Kristen! Stop by anytime to visit as you now have a key to T-Town for life.

[ top... ]
Stucky got a 9.875 for her bars routine and Dooley just completed a [ 7:57 PM, 01/30/04 ]

very solid set, including a Gienger release for a 9.875.

[ top... ]
Brion is leaping like a lizard for Ashley Miles, who just got a 10!!! [ 7:56 PM, 01/30/04 ]

And it was certainly well-deserved, look for it on the replay on ESPN.

[ top... ]
Pendleton gets a 9.90 and Stucky just completed her routine, landing [ 7:54 PM, 01/30/04 ]

a double layout, one step forward on the landing.

[ top... ]
Lutz gets a 9.825 and Pendleton just completed a very nice routine, [ 7:53 PM, 01/30/04 ]

landing a double dismount, one small hop back. Alexis Brion will vault a front pike 1/2 twist - she NAILED IT! Crowd erupts accordingly and she gets a 9.95! BOOOOOOO the crowd says but she is thrilled, she has been working so hard for that score the past three years.

[ top... ]
Hrozek gets a 9.875! [ 7:52 PM, 01/30/04 ]

[ top... ]
Dana Filetti barely moves on her landing of the full twist on back pike [ 7:51 PM, 01/30/04 ]

off and gets a 9.85. Hrozek just followed with a terrific Yurchenko 1/1, one small step in place, gorgeous form in the air. Not as much distance as we need but she's come light years since that fall two weeks ago, so we will take it!

[ top... ]
Breanne King just completed her bars routine, a little loose form [ 7:50 PM, 01/30/04 ]

throughout but she completes it with no major problems and gets a 9.85.

[ top... ]
Dana Pierce just got incredible airtime on her Yurchenko 1/1, much [ 7:48 PM, 01/30/04 ]

better this week at avoiding the pike down. However, she only gets a 9.825. Szmuch gets a 9.85 for her bars routine, very controlled and deliberate, nice difficulty, missed a few handstands, double tuck dismount, landed well.

[ top... ]
We need to stick those vaults like they [ 7:46 PM, 01/30/04 ]

were landing them in glue. And Jeana Rice just delivered for a 9.90!

[ top... ]
We are ready to go on the vault. Florida is ready on the bars. [ 7:45 PM, 01/30/04 ]

[ top... ]
Fashion Report! [ 7:40 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Both Sarah Patterson and Rhonda Faehn are wearing black tonight. Sarah is wearing a black shantung silk pantsuit (with cropped pants) and Faehn is in a black sequined sleeveless top with matching black pants. Florida as a team is wearing ice blue and black leos with silver sequins on the bodice and Alabama is wearing the cranberry leo with silver sequins and a sweetheart bodice, the outfit they wore the first night of NCAA Championships in 2002. Good luck then, hopefully better luck tonight?

[ top... ]
Great rendition of the Star Spangled Banner from the Alabama Boys' [ 7:37 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Choir and the Alabama Girls'Choir. Now it's time for some gymnastics, Bama style!

[ top... ]
Kathy Johnson and her partner are here to film the meet for ESPN [ 7:36 PM, 01/30/04 ]

The Million Dollar Band is really hip, playing all the latest music you [ 7:23 PM, 01/30/04 ]

could wish for. "Stacy's Mom" is their latest, what a great rendition.

[ top... ]
Pre-meet entertainment is almost over. The cheerleaders (finished #2 [ 7:16 PM, 01/30/04 ]

last week in the ESPN-Collegiate Cheerleading Championships) are now on the floor with the band playing "California Dreaming" in honor of Mari Bayer and her folks back in San Jose, California. We love you guys, stay tuned and cheer loudly for our gal tonight to bring home a big score on the bars, beam and floor.

[ top... ]
A local club gymnastics program is again exhibiting prior to the meet [ 7:11 PM, 01/30/04 ]

and the crowd is filing in nicely.

[ top... ]
The teams depart for the dressing rooms and the Ten Troupe is [ 7:09 PM, 01/30/04 ]

greeting the Tide ladies as they pass in front of them, throwing high fives.

[ top... ]
Erin Rightley is enjoying her routine [ 7:03 PM, 01/30/04 ]

to Tomb Raider music. It's hard not to think of Jamie Dantzscher when that song is playing. Erin Dooley throws a punch front to wolf combination as her mount on the balance beam. Kara Waterhouse is not in the line-up tonight for the Gators but is on the sidelines.

[ top... ]
Dana Filetti just threw that triple! [ 7:01 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Way to go! Now, if we can just get all three tumbling passes to come together she will literally be on fire.

[ top... ]
Stephanie just had a great tumbling run (warm-up) [ 6:58 PM, 01/30/04 ]

and is poised to score high. We will need her to, no doubt about it.

[ top... ]
Florida has Dooley, Stucky, Rue, Szmuch warming up so far on beam. [ 6:57 PM, 01/30/04 ]

[ top... ]
Warming up on the floor for the Tide: Miles, Holdefer, Bayer, Rice, [ 6:53 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Reeser, Brion, Kite and Filetti. Also Rightley!

[ top... ]
Kristin Sterner's parents are here tonight! It's Academic Achievement [ 6:49 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Night, so perhaps Kristin is going to be highlighted for her numerous academic honors, including the SEC Student Athlete of the Year and the NCAA Elite VIII award that she picked up a few weeks ago in Nashville. Wow, we miss her bad.

[ top... ]
Jeana Rice is on fire with that bhs-layout-layout flight series. [ 6:47 PM, 01/30/04 ]

We expect her to go all around tonight. Nice switch leap to wolf jump from Shannon.

[ top... ]
Nice switch leap to straddle jump combo from Mari Bayer just now. [ 6:44 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Looks like Katie Rue is going to throw a double layout on floor as well as Orley Szmuch. Or at least they are practicing these moves on the sting mat.

[ top... ]
Ashley is polishing up her release on the bars and the dismount. [ 6:37 PM, 01/30/04 ]

She wants that 9.90 or higher tonight. Erin Rightley is looking great on the beam. After her first two weeks of exhibition on this event, and staying on last week while the Baton Rouge fanatics were going wild over Burkholder's "10", she has a much better sense of what it takes to compete in the SEC.

[ top... ]
Comeaux booms that Tkatchev like no one else. Tons of confidence. [ 6:33 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Samantha Lutz of Florida is a freshman who vaults a front pike. She just twisted it. Mari Bayer just completed her routine magnificently, catching that tricky Jaeger release.

[ top... ]
Also warming up for the Tide on the bars [ 6:28 PM, 01/30/04 ]

is Dana Pierce, Dana Filetti, Brittany Comeaux, Mari Bayer, Ashley Miles, Shannon Hrozek and Jeana Rice.

[ top... ]
Larissa Stewart warmed up the bars in Baton Rouge last week and [ 6:25 PM, 01/30/04 ]

was looking very good. We apologize for not mentioning this at the time but got on line late and had to go immediately into the competition, hence limited time to talk about the warm ups. Larissa is again warming up tonight so we may see her exhibit her routine. She is All SEC on the bars from 2003 and a candidate for All America when she gets back to full strength.

[ top... ]
It's Bama versus Florida tonight at 7:30 pm in Coleman Coliseum. [ 6:20 PM, 01/30/04 ]

Hello Bama Nation, across our great country and the globe. We are in long warm-ups at this point, which just started.

Alabama is warming up on the vault while the Gators are on the bars. Both teams are looking very sharp. Alabama has Johnna Gay, Shannon Hrozek and Brittany Comeaux who will be throwing 10 vaults tonight at home along with the regular line-up. Gay just laid out her Yurchenko 1/1 and it looks excellent.

Florida is showing excellent form, toe point and handstands on the bars so we expect a big score from them on this event right out of the chute. Alabama is equally strong on the vault but it will be all about sticking the landing on each event tonight to get the maximum score.
