We will wrap things up now and say goodbye from Lexington, Kentucky,
[ 8:35 PM, 02/13/04 ]
where the Tide is now 4-0 in the SEC, 10-0 in the season so far. Next week they will return home to face the Gymdawgs of UGA. Let's have a sell out. See you then!
[ top... ]
Ashley Miles wins the vault tonight with a perfect 10, followed by Alexis
[ 8:32 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Brion of UA with a 9.925 and Jeana Rice with a 9.925 and Shannon Hrozek in third with a 9.90.
On bars, Alabama's Jeana Rice wins it with a 9.925, followed by Mari Bayer of UA with a 9.850, Michelle Gales of Kentucky (9.850), Julie Joy of Kentucky (9.850) in second.
On the beam, Bama wins this one as well, with Mari Bayer and Michelle Reeser tying for first with a 9.850 along with Staci O'Keefe of Kentucky (9.850).
On floor, Alexis Brion wins it with a 9.925, followed by Kentucky's Gales (9.900) and Primault (9.875).
[ top... ]
2,183 fans were in attendance tonight officially.
[ 8:31 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Aronda Primault just barely edges out Shannon Hrozek of UA for the
[ 8:29 PM, 02/13/04 ]
all around title tonight, 39.325 to a 39.300.
[ top... ]
Ashey Miles exhibited her beam and had all of her difficulty, earning
[ 8:24 PM, 02/13/04 ]
a 9.800. This included a super round off layout onto the beam as her mount, a wolf full leap, a switch leap to split 1/2 combination, a flight series of a bhs-two-footed layout, switch leap to Korbut (kick out for extra oomph) full turn, leg extended all around. She dismounted with a gainer full off the side of the beam. Roll Tide!
[ top... ]
Dana Pierce finishes with a 9.800 on the beam and the Tide has a 197.075
[ 8:19 PM, 02/13/04 ]
for another excellent road score, again resting several of the vets to allow the other ladies to have their chance to shine. Kentucky finishes with a 195.025.
[ top... ]
Sarah Patterson has inserted Dana Pierce into the final position to
[ 8:17 PM, 02/13/04 ]
rest Jeana Rice. She is responding very well so far. She completes her flight series beautifully this week and the side switch leap is terrific as well. She glitches on the second straddle so that will be a deduction. Gales received a 9.90 for her floor routine and Aronda Primault completed a triple twist for her opening pass.
[ top... ]
Mari Bayer receives a 9.850 for her beam routine.
[ 8:16 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Krystle Cook got a 9.800 for her floor routine and Michelle Gales just
[ 8:15 PM, 02/13/04 ]
opened with a very nice double layout.
[ top... ]
Mari is through all of her elements so far with confidence (as we requested)
[ 8:14 PM, 02/13/04 ]
and finishes with a gainer back pike dismount. She watered down her routine just a bit on that last element to avoid a mishap and another low score. Brion received a 8.55 by the way because she fell twice.
[ top... ]
Mari Bayer is up next for the Tide. CONFIDENCE!
[ 8:13 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Shannon receives a 9.800 for her beam routine.
[ 8:13 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Julie Joy receives a 9.825 for her floor routine.
[ 8:12 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Krystle Cook is now on the floor for the Cats and opens with a booming double pike.
[ top... ]
Shannon is through her flight series and her leap series (switch leap to
[ 8:10 PM, 02/13/04 ]
a wolf). Her hitch kick to a sheep jump looks great as well. She dismounts with a double twist, loose form and a step (foot slipped a bit on the beam apparently, throwing her off). The routine was terrific to that point.
[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek is up next and must be brave. We need three big
[ 8:10 PM, 02/13/04 ]
routines from our veterans.
[ top... ]
Alexis fell on her flight series (third element). She completes the
[ 8:07 PM, 02/13/04 ]
leap series (two switch leaps) and the punch front. She falls on the landing of her running 1 1/2. There will be better days. Romerman receives we think a 9.700.
[ top... ]
Rachael receives a 9.825 for her beam routine and Alexis Brion is up
[ 8:06 PM, 02/13/04 ]
next for her first competitive routine ever for Alabama. Let's see how she does.
[ top... ]
Sarucci gets a 9.175 for her floor routine and Romerman opens with
[ 8:05 PM, 02/13/04 ]
a double pike to hard rock music. She goes out of bounds on her second pass (front tumbling, two layouts).
[ top... ]
Rachael Delahoussaye is up next. Let's go Louisiana gal!
[ 8:03 PM, 02/13/04 ]
She is through the wolf full, landed it on a dime. The flight series is solid and the wolf to Korbut is beautiful in form. Her switch leap to wolf looks good, full turn, cartwheel down onto the beam, some dancing and prep for the dismount, a gainer back pike, landed perfectly.
[ top... ]
Reeser receives a 9.850 to start us off well.
[ 8:02 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Alison Sarucci has fallen on her second pass (front tumbling tuck, third element) but completed her opening pass of the double pike, two steps back.
[ top... ]
Michelle Reeser is up first for the Tide on the beam.
[ 8:00 PM, 02/13/04 ]
She is through her flight series and the first leap series. She completes her second series (switch leap to straddle) and dismounts with a bhs to gainer full twist, stuck landing.
[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek has a 9.80 on the bars, a 9.90 on the vault, a 9.80 on the
[ 7:59 PM, 02/13/04 ]
floor. She will also compete on the beam tonight for her first all around tally of the season.
[ top... ]
Kentucky finished up on the beam with a 48.000 and has a running total
[ 7:57 PM, 02/13/04 ]
of 145.975. Alabama has a 49.200 on the floor and a running total of 147.950.
[ top... ]
Brion is through her first two passes with confidence and finishes up with a
[ 7:48 PM, 02/13/04 ]
high double tuck, for a 9.925. Filetti has opened with a super triple twist, a double pike as her second pass and will finish with a whip 1/2 to a front layout. She receives a 9.750. They possibly deducted for a chest forward landing of the double pike and perhaps a compositional error on the third pass (easier pass than the opening two?). She stood it up and it's looking better each week.
[ top... ]
Kite gets a 9.825 for her floor routine. Sorry, it was better than that.
[ 7:47 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Alexis Brion will be next for the Tide to close out and then we may have some exhibitions.
[ top... ]
Stephanie is up next for Bama.
[ 7:45 PM, 02/13/04 ]
She nails the opening pass of the front through to a double full punch front. She nails the second pass (round off to whip 1/2 front layout) and the final pass of a front to whip 1/2 round off layout step out. Primault gets a 9.800 for her beam routine.
[ top... ]
Hrozek gets a 9.800 for her floor routine. Great preparation for next
[ 7:44 PM, 02/13/04 ]
week in front of the home crowd. This routine is a winner.
[ top... ]
Mari gets a 9.825 and Shannon debuts her new routine with a booming
[ 7:40 PM, 02/13/04 ]
double pike. She is through her second pass but takes a step forward on her final pass of the double tuck. Michelle Gales gets a 9.475 for her beam routine.
[ top... ]
Dana Pierce gets a 9.800 and Mari is through her first pass of the
[ 7:38 PM, 02/13/04 ]
double pike and the second front tumbling pass (front-front full-front tuck). She finishes strongly with a double twist.
[ top... ]
Prestigiacamo received a 9.100 for her beam and Julie Joy fell as well
[ 7:37 PM, 02/13/04 ]
on her flight series apparently.
[ top... ]
Next up for the Tide is Dana Pierce, who opens with a huge double
[ 7:34 PM, 02/13/04 ]
pike. She has her second tumbling pass of a front through to two layouts and finishes with a double twist, sans the Shushonova. Mari is up next.
[ top... ]
Strauch of Kentucky gets a 9.650 for her beam routine.
[ 7:33 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Kara Prestigiacamo is now up for the Cats. She just fell on a leap series it looks like. Lauren Holdefer gets a 9.825 for her floor routine.
[ top... ]
She is through the difficult front tumbling pass and is dancing and
[ 7:32 PM, 02/13/04 ]
preparing for her final pass, a double tuck, that she lands with one step back.
[ top... ]
Bethany Strauch is up on the beam for the Wildcats and is solid so far
[ 7:29 PM, 02/13/04 ]
through her flight series and the rest of the routine looks good too. Lauren Holdefer is through her opening pass of a double pike, beautifully landed with terrific height.
[ top... ]
Opening up on the floor for Bama will be Lauren Holdefer, the senior
[ 7:27 PM, 02/13/04 ]
from Northport, Alabama.
[ top... ]
Alabama moves to the floor exercise and really needs to turn up the
[ 7:22 PM, 02/13/04 ]
scores here. Filetti received a scoring adjustment from 9.750 to a 9.800 so Bama has a 49.550 on the vault and a running total of 98.750. We'll take it.
[ top... ]
Alabama finishes with Lauren Holdefer on the vault with her front pike
[ 7:19 PM, 02/13/04 ]
1/2 twist, landed very well! She receives a 9.800. Johnna Gay completes her Yurchenko 1/1 for a 9.65 (deducted for form, did not lay it out all the way through). Bama has a 49.500 on the vault and a running total of 98.700. Kentucky has a 49.150 on the bars and a running total of 97.975.
[ top... ]
Brion receives a 9.925. Ashley follows with a perfect Yurchenko 1/1
[ 7:18 PM, 02/13/04 ]
and she is awarded a perfect 10. Way to go Bama!
[ top... ]
Cook gets a 9.800 for her bars routine. Gales is up next.
[ 7:17 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Comeaux receives a 9.250 for her vault. Alexis Brion is up next with her
[ 7:16 PM, 02/13/04 ]
front pike 1/2 twist. Give her a 10!!! Magnificent!
[ top... ]
Primault receives a 9.825 for her bars routine. Krystle Cook just
[ 7:14 PM, 02/13/04 ]
completed hers with no major problems, a hop on the double layout.
[ top... ]
Sarucci of Kentucky gets a 9.825 for her bars routine.
[ 7:13 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Aronda Primault just finished solidly, no major deductions. Brittany Comeaux just fell on her vault.
[ top... ]
O'Keefe receives a 8.45 for her bars routine and Filetti a 9.75 (one judge
[ 7:10 PM, 02/13/04 ]
scored her vault a 9.65 (?) and the other a 9.85. Oh well. Jeana Rice just iced her Yurchenko 1/1 for a 9.925! We needed that one.
[ top... ]
Staci O'Keefe of Kentucky fell on her release move and finishes up.
[ 7:10 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Dana Filetti just threw her Yurchenko full twist on back pike off, one step back on the landing to check her balance.
[ top... ]
Wow! Way to start the vaulting out Texas gal.
[ 7:09 PM, 02/13/04 ]
She receives a 9.90. Let's build up from there Bama!
[ top... ]
Shannon starts us off on the vault tonight with a Yurchenko 1/1.
[ 7:06 PM, 02/13/04 ]
All eyes are on her as she bursts forward and sticks the landing!!
[ top... ]
Alabama's highest scorer on the uneven bars tonight was Jeana Rice
[ 7:03 PM, 02/13/04 ]
with a 9.925.
[ top... ]
Kentucky's highest scorer on the vault was a 9.825 for Aronda Primault.
[ 7:02 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Alabama has a total on the bars of a 49.200 and Kentucky a 48.825 on
[ 6:59 PM, 02/13/04 ]
the vault. Alexis Brion had a great routine going on the bars but landed forward on her dismount and received a 9.65 (probably about .2 deduction since it was a deep step forward). She reached all of her handstands and really has excellent form on the Tkatchev release and made all of her handstands. These judges are taking off tonight for not reaching vertical on the uprises and transitions to the low bar.
[ top... ]
Jeana Rice just rocked her routine, making the handstand vertical
[ 6:58 PM, 02/13/04 ]
to perfection (transition to low bar) and sticking the full in. She receives a 9.925.
[ top... ]
What a terrific routine just now from Mari Bayer, reaching all of her
[ 6:57 PM, 02/13/04 ]
handstands enroute to a 9.85 from both judges. She threw the pike Jaeger release and had beautiful toe point along the way. Jeana Rice is up next for Bama.
[ top... ]
Stewart gets a 9.800 for her bars.
[ 6:54 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Brittany Comeaux is up next for the Tide. She also completes the booming Tkatchev with no problem but misses two critical handstands as well, though she landed the double front beautifully. She receives a 9.800.
[ top... ]
Filetti gets a 9.825 for her bars and Larissa is up next.
[ 6:52 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Gales of Kentucky just got a 9.700 for her vault. Larissa just completed a solid routine, nailing her double layout dismount but she will also be deducted for missing vertical on at least two of her uprises.
[ top... ]
Shannon gets a 9.800 for her bars and Dana Filetti just completed a
[ 6:51 PM, 02/13/04 ]
very solid routine but just missed vertical on two of her uprises. She lands the double front very well, with awesome distance from the high bar. That's got to count for something! Sarucci of Kentucky gets a 9.675 for her second vault.
[ top... ]
Shannon completes her routine with no major difficulties, sticking the
[ 6:49 PM, 02/13/04 ]
landing of a double tuck out of a giant to a half turn on the high bar. That Gienger was very high and tight but a little close to the bar so that may be a deduction. Prestigiacamo gets a 9.65 for her vault.
[ top... ]
Kara Prestigiacamo vaults a front pike with a hop forward on the
[ 6:47 PM, 02/13/04 ]
landing. Shannon Hrozek is next on the bars for the Tide.
[ top... ]
Judges for tonight:

Fashion Report!
[ 6:42 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Alabama is wearing the blood red velveteen with silver sequins on the bodice while Kentucky is wearing a leo in shiny marine blue with black sheer contrast at the bodice and a white swirl at the collar and along the left arm and upper left back shoulder area. Very elegant on both teams.
[ top... ]
Now for the National Anthem.
[ 6:39 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Sung by Linda Mitchell.
[ top... ]
The teams are now being introduced, first the Tide as the visiting team
[ 6:37 PM, 02/13/04 ]
and now the Wildcats of Kentucky. Michelle Gales is a junior this year, one of their best gymnasts. Julie Joy and Aronda Primault are seniors and are terrific too.
[ top... ]
Rararuss and the Bama Nation here in Lexington want to say hello to
[ 6:31 PM, 02/13/04 ]
all Tide fans who are watching the meet over the internet tonight. Hello to Nellie and L.C. Sanders back in Birmingham, the Cusimanos, Jodey and Lynne Swann and all the parents of our great team who are spread throughout the country, watching their gals on line tonight.
[ top... ]
We are one minute away from the meet starting. A few fans are still
[ 6:29 PM, 02/13/04 ]
filing into the arena, which is the original gymnasium that Adolph Rupp led his Kentucky Wildcats basketball team to so many victories in.
[ top... ]
Kentucky has their own version of Lil Husker Man but it's a Lil Wildcat.
[ 6:23 PM, 02/13/04 ]
He's bouncing around entertaining the small but excited crowd.
[ top... ]
The tentative line-up for tonight is as follows for Bama:
[ 6:21 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Uneven Bars: Shannon, Dana Filetti, Larissa, Brittany, Mari, Jeana (Ashley will rest due to the unfamiliarity of the extender bars, as we mentioned earlier).
Vault: Shannon, Johnna (!), Dana Filetti, Jeana, Alexis, Ashley
Floor Exercise: Lauren, Dana Pierce, Mari, Shannon, Stephanie, Alexis
Balance Beam: Michelle, Rachael, Alexis, Shannon, Mari, Jeana
[ top... ]
We are now heading into the locker rooms to get ready for the meet.
[ 6:18 PM, 02/13/04 ]
RaraRuss leads the Bama crowd in a resounding "ROLL TIDE ROLL" as the ladies depart. Kentucky's cheerleaders are here to entertain the crowd before the meet. They recently won the National title with Alabama's squad finishing second. Kentucky is known for their great cheerleading squads over the years and usually are the team to beat.
[ top... ]
Shannon Hrozek is really struggling in her beam warm-ups and Coach
[ 6:15 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Patterson is helping her adjust on the flight series, which seems to be giving her the main trouble tonight.
[ top... ]
Ashley Miles is warming up on balance beam and may do exhibition
[ 6:03 PM, 02/13/04 ]
tonight. How about that sports fans? She mounts with a round-off layout onto the beam. Bama is warming up Dana Pierce, Shannon Hrozek, Jeana Rice, Michelle Reeser, Alexis Brion, Mari Bayer, Larisa Stewart as well. Rachael and Michelle warmed up earlier while the other team members were doing their vault runs.
[ top... ]
Alabama will now move to the balance beam
[ 6:01 PM, 02/13/04 ]
for their final long-warm-up. They look very good on the floor tonight so let's hope that same energy hangs around. Good luck to the coaches deciding who to put out there tonight.
[ top... ]
Shannon is still experimenting with her second tumbling pass, which
[ 6:00 PM, 02/13/04 ]
tonight will consist of a front handspring to two front layouts. Dana Pierce has added a double twist to a Shushonova as her ending tumbling pass on floor.
[ top... ]
It's nice to know Bama has many gymnasts to choose from for the floor while the
[ 5:58 PM, 02/13/04 ]
"bookends" rest tonight. Shannon has a booming double pike and a double tuck.
[ top... ]
This floor has lots of bounce! Stephanie just looked awesome on that
[ 5:57 PM, 02/13/04 ]
front through to a double full to a punch front, landing it on a dime. Let's hope we see that tonight from the Austin, Texas native.
[ top... ]
Dana Pierce is looking terrific on the front handspring to two layouts
[ 5:56 PM, 02/13/04 ]
(nice tight form and extension). Johnna Gay just threw a terrific 2 1/2 twist.
[ top... ]
Dana Filetti just completed her triple twist and a beautiful double pike!
[ 5:55 PM, 02/13/04 ]
[ top... ]
Stephanie just did that difficult middle tumbling pass with no problems
[ 5:54 PM, 02/13/04 ]
this time. We need a huge score from her tonight and as we move towards post-season, this is a routine the coaches will want to depend upon for SECs, Regionals and NCAAs.
[ top... ]
There you go Filetti! Much better vault that time as David high-fives her.
[ 5:49 PM, 02/13/04 ]
First phase of floor work-outs currently are being done in this order: Stephanie, Erin, Alexis, Lauren, Dana Pierce and Shannon Hrozek. We may see some or all of these gals on the floor tonight. Jeana and Ashley are scheduled for a rest, as is Michelle.
[ top... ]
Bee is looking much better this week with her vaulting runs,
[ 5:47 PM, 02/13/04 ]
the Yurchenko half off front tuck with a 1/2 tuck off. Lauren is standing up her front pike 1/2 twist vault but still taking the one foot step to stop her momentum.
[ top... ]
Dana Filetti is struggling a bit with her vault, the Yurchenko full twist on
[ 5:44 PM, 02/13/04 ]
back pike off. David Patterson is giving her pointers. Shannon Hrozek just did an awesome Yurchenko 1/1 run.
[ top... ]
Nice Yurchenko 1/1 vault just now from senior Jeana Rice, our ace in
[ 5:41 PM, 02/13/04 ]
the hole. Johnna Gay is hoping to exhibit tonight on vault and is laying out her Yurchenko 1/1 as well. Larissa is solid on that beam flight series (bhs-bhs-layout) and the front aerial combination. Stephanie Kite is warming up on floor and has her hair in a tight bun coronet of curls tonight, bringing back memories of her elite days at Capital Gymnastics in Texas.
[ top... ]
Kentucky freshman Krystle Cook has nice giants on the bars but missed that
[ 5:37 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Tkatchev, though it was very high. They are reaching those handstands well in transitioning to the low bar.
[ top... ]
Kentucky is looking solid on the uneven bars, nice uprises and most
[ 5:36 PM, 02/13/04 ]
are dismounting with double tucks and a few layouts. Aronda Primault (senior) has a Gienger release.
[ top... ]
Bama has now moved to the vault and balance beam for long
[ 5:33 PM, 02/13/04 ]
warm-ups. On beam Bama is warming up Rachael, Erin, Mari, Michelle, Larissa while the vault has Johnna, Alexis, Brittany, Ashley, Lauren, Dana Pierce, Dana Filetti, Jeana Rice and Shannon Hrozek warming up. Mari just threw a straddle-straddle-wolf combination. She looked very confident earlier on the uneven bars during warm-ups.
[ top... ]
The meet tonight starts at 6:30 CST for Tide fans back home in
[ 5:28 PM, 02/13/04 ]
Alabama since Kentucky is on Eastern Time. The meet officially starts here at 7:30 pm EST, not 7:00 pm CST as mentioned on the front page of the website. Hopefully our webmaster will be changing that shortly.
[ top... ]
Bama is having to adjust a bit to the uneven bars here at Kentucky, as
[ 5:24 PM, 02/13/04 ]
they use extender bars that make the bars a little less flexible. Some of the Tide gals seem to like this effect while others are having to work harder to cast handstands or, in Ashley Miles' situation, push a little harder on the toe-on toe-off to reach the handstand position on the high bar. So it's not just the arena that the visiting teams have to adjust to, it's the equipment as well.
[ top... ]
Hello to all the Bama Nation back home who could not make the trip
[ 5:20 PM, 02/13/04 ]
to Lexington with us, though we have a good contingency already filtering into the arena. Looks like the Tide fans will number at least 50-75 here tonight. Last week we had one side of the Tigers' arena that easily numbered 2000 wearing red and white. That's the hallmark of a championship team, their loyal fans will follow them near and far to support them.
[ top... ]
We are live from horse country, the Bluegrass State, better known as
[ 5:18 PM, 02/13/04 ]
KENTUCKY! Watching Larissa Stewart complete her bars routine in the long-warm-up that just began here. Super dismount of the double layout from the Healdton, Oklahoma native. And now Alexis Brion is throwing her bars routine and is solid throughout. Terrific uprises.
