Roll Tide and goodnight from Coleman Coliseum where the Tide was a winner: 196.325 to the Tarheels 194.550. Thanks to the enthusiastic crowd in attendance, a total of 10,673 and Bama now has an SEC record and school record for regular season attendance at 10,570.

Alabama started off with a roar on the vault (49.400)and still has room to improve on this event by SECs and Regionals. Looking solid for the post-season.

The uneven bars were a surprising source of jitters early on. Usually a high-scoring event for Bama, this time they experienced adversity with the second and third routines.

After Brittany Comeaux hit her routine for a stingy 9.750, Dana Filetti had an uncharacteristic over-arch on the low bar as she was preparing to go into her toe-on release to the high bar, ending up on her back on the mat when she tried mightily to save her handstand position. Dana Pierce in place of Hrozek tonight caught the jitters from Filetti and fell twice, which we have never seen in the past three years of her consistent performances on this event. Ashley Miles responded to this double challenge by hitting all her huge release moves and then nailed her dismount like she has wanted to do all year. Again, another conservative score from the judges, this time a 9.825. Bayer was given this score as well and even Humphrey was hit hard for the hop back on the double layout despite over-whelming difficulty (9.850).

The team's balance beam performance had more consistency this week but the judges again whacked the Tide in similar areas to the Arkansas meet. Terin Humphrey's fall on her double tuck dismount was unfortunate after what was looking like a great routine up to that point. Miles threw in a super controlled effort until a lunging forward step on the dismount cost her two tenths. Hrozek is looking better on the beam, another strong routine to prepare for the post-season.

Floor was just what the doctor ordered, highlighted by Brion's 9.975, Terin's 9.90 and Erin's 9.90. Miles brought the entire crowd to their feet because only she can "bring the funk" in such a charismatic fashion, hence the 9.95. Total on floor was a 49.575 and Bama now gets to throw out the Kentucky score.

routine and stayed standing, booing the judges when they gave it only a 9.950. Bama's coaches are just grinning.

Michelle Reeser is throwing a terrific routine of her own in exhibition, nailing the double pike to open, the front handspring to front layout to front full, ending with the front through to a whip 1/2 to layout-stepout. She scores a 9.80.

meet for the Crimson Tide. Well-earned.

Ashley is throwing her own magic, opening with a super double layout, a front-front full-front layout. She finishes with another rocked double pike. WOW! The electricity in this arena is overwhelming right now.

and Courtney Bumpers is attacking the beam like only she can. Two layouts in her flight series, a wolf full and she will dismount with a double tuck, nice landing! She receives a 9.90.

Dynamic opening pass of the whip to double pike, nailed the second pass of a front-front full to front tuck! She will end with the always breath-taking double tuck - she lands it like a trooper! Crowd is on their feet with appreciation of her past four years. Way to go out!

Terin Humphrey just mesmerized the Bama Nation with a pike full in opening tumbling pass, followed by a 2 1/2 to a front punch and ending with a stupendous 1 1/2 to a 2 1/2, landed on a dime! The dance was excellent and she now has this new routine down.

now for UNC. A little stumble on the landing of the layout element of her flight series. She dismounts with a running front full, one step to the left on the landing.

Bayer receives a 9.85 which makes sense given the shuffle on her landing of the opening pass.

She takes a shuffle step back on the opening double pike landing but comes back with a stuck front-front full-front tuck. Nice flare on the dance moves and she finishes with a double twist, another solid landing. The crowd loves Mari!

with a nice punch front to wolf leap combination. Another fall on the running side switch leap, lots of difficulty in this routine and she ends with a front full.

the front through to a Rudi (1 1/2 twist); she does the same on her third (front-front full-front pike) and receives a huge cheer from the crowd. Hester received a 9.125 for her beam routine and Xu a 9.725 for the opening routine.

double pike. The second pass is the toughest for her but not tonight. Great landing and control of each element: front-front full-front pike. Expressive dance to Santana as she prepares for her final pass, a double tuck - hop back and possibly out of bounds from where we can see her straight ahead. She receives a 9.80 so perhaps she did not step out per Judge Lyons' view of the corner boundary nearest to him.

Mikel Hester for UNC just fell on her flight series but follows with a nice side switch leap.

bhs to layout, bends over at the shoulder on the landing of the second element. Nice side Somi and she dismounts with a stuck double twist though legs were separated in the air, pretty noticeable from our position in the arena.

three minute touch.

the final event to kick the Tarheels back to the Smokey Mountains.

UNC is at 48.975 on the floor and a running total of 146.350.

the side Somi, standing it up nicely. Nice straddle-straddle-wolf combination and a bhs to Korbut followed by a sheep jump and she dismounts with a double twist, one foot check on the landing. We'll try and get this score. It's a 9.725.

Bumpers received a 9.775 for her floor routine.

and the judge raised the hand. Another hard trick on her second pass, a double front Arabian, chest down a bit and a step forward into the corner. Dynamic! She finishes with a double pike. Crowd claps loudly for the major difficulty in this routine.

Terin Humphrey will close us out and we need a big score!

Nice triple turn mount, followed by the full twisting back handspring to bhs to layout-stepout. Nice switch leap to 3/4 twisting split handstand but she touches down on the double tuck dismount. So Bama will have to count the 9.70 score from Delahoussaye's routine.

through her first pass of the double pike and the second pass of a front to front full to front pike, a shoulders a little under the last element as she had to step back. She finishes with a double tuck, one step back. Nice!

on the beam with her round-off layout-stepout. Nice concentration going right now, wolf full, switch leap to switch 1/4. Gainer back handspring to layout-stepout. She will finish with a round off to double tuck - one step forward on the landing and chest down. Just glad she missed the beam that time, it was a little close.

and sticks it well. Nice front to front full to front layout for her second pass. She finishes with a 2 1/2 to front layout, form a little rough but she stood this up as well. Very nice difficulty!

going up gals. Mari is now up for the Tide and throws the front aerial to bhs to Korbut, and a nice split scale, followed by the switch 1/2 leap, a little bend at the shoulders but she keeps moving. The switch leap to straddle to wolf is a bit labored but she completes all three without a significant break. Stuck gainer back pike dismount!

Her music is AC/DC and she finishes with a front layout to a front pike. She receives a 9.825.

Hrozek is up next. Nice flight series of the bhs-layout-bhs and a switch leap to wolf. Hitch kick to sheep combination looks excellent and she dismounts with a round off to double twist, hop back. Not quite as good as the one against Arkansas but we'll take it.

through her opening double pike, step back, again on the mat. Second pass is two front layouts, almost over the boundary according to the crowd's "oooohhhhhh". She sits down the third pass, a front-front full to front tuck. Crowd gives her nice applause regardless. She receives a 9.150.

Michelle is through her flight series, looking confident, along with the switch leap to wolf and a cartwheel down onto the beam before another switch leap to straddle combination. A slight balance check on the full turn that actually ends up being a 1 1/4 turn, so a slight deduction there possibly. But no major deductions so far and she dismounts with a back handspring to a gainer full twist, stuck the landing!

A deep landing and a step back on the double pike to open (on a mat); double turn to straddle full and she finishes with two front layouts.

She nails the wolf full and prepares for the flight series: back handspring to layout stepout, nice. Wolf to Korbut, switch side leap, nice landing, a little more amplitude and toe point needed, pretty full turn, cartwheel down onto the beam, some dance, and a gainer back pike dismount, nailed the landing!

It's gut-check time for the Tide because anymore falls will put them in catch-up mode like our basketball team was the other night. Bama needs another good home score to throw out the earlier score against Kentucky.

routine as does Terin Humphrey a 9.850 despite taking only a hop back on the double layout dismount. Alabama is at 97.875 to UNC's 97.375.

what looks like a Phelps vault (1/4 on 3/4 off front layout), with a hop forward. If this was a Phelps, they must have held off devaluing it for this year because she landed this on a major thick mat, has a hop and receives a 9.875. It must have come out of a 10.00 value because there were clear deduction areas of anywhere from .10 to .150.

The judges gave Ashley Miles' uneven bars routine a 9.825! BOOOOOO! goes the crowd. Mari responds with a strong routine, nice pike Jaeger and a double tuck out of a full turn.

the high bar. Ashley Miles will see if she can raise the scores with a booming routine of her own. We sure could use it about now. CONFIDENCE!

Pierce is up next. She falls on the transition to the low bar. Argh! And another fall on the Tkatchev. Looks like the pressure has arrived for two of our gals in a big way.

Kelly of UNC receives a 9.775 for her vault (Yurchenko 1/1).

landing, great height and body position in the air. She receives a 9.725. That vault looked much better than the one preceding it but was less valued (9.90).

Filetti falls on the mount (handstand uprise went over, she tried hard to save it). The rest of her routine is looking awesome and it's great to see her recover so well. This could be a routine we need to count and every element bonus is a must.

Britt is through her Tkatchev and a nice handstand on the low bar, stuck double front dismount. Yes! She receives a 9.750.

Kaitlin White just nailed her Yurchenko full twist for a 9.775 but it seems the judges were very tough on her for it (a) being an exhibition and (b) it had somewhat limited distance from the vault table on the landing.

Dana Pierce just threw a terrific Yurchenko 1/1 and takes one tiny step to the left to check her landing. We saw one score from the judges as 9.85. Way to go!

house with a Yurchenko 1/1, a small hop back as well. So much height and the distance was awesome as well. She receives a 9.925 and the crowd reluctantly applauds this.

and a toe-on to handstand on the high bar, followed by another one with a 1/2 twist to dismount. Nice routine.

Brion just hopped back a bit on her booming pike front with a 1/2 twist. Nice body control throughout and she receives a 9.875.

Bumpers did not throw a major release move and ends with a double front, one step forward. Interesting.

terrific Yurchenko 1/2 on - front pike - 1/2 off (pike out), small hop back.

Alsop is doing a much better job, landing a double pike with one step back. Form was tight, legs extended and nice toe point.

the name mix-up. Kelly is up next for the Tarheels. A Tkatchev release and she hit the bar and then on a later giant uprise had to stop on top of the bar before continuing her routine with a double tuck dismount.

very difficult Yurchenko 1/2 off - front tuck - 1/2 out (tuck) and she receives a 9.85.

Mikel Hester and a double tuck dismount. Her form throughout was rather loose and she took a step forward, chest a bit down on the landing. But she completed the routine successfully, a great way to start.

Hrozek receives a 9.90.

UNC is in the powder blue metallic long-sleeved leo with contrasting white diagnoal stripes from the right shoulder down to the left hip.

Alabama is wearing an outfit that they've not worn in about a year, the solid white lycra on the upper bodice and shoulders contrasted by the solid deep crimson torso, a gold filigree sequin design over the heart.

Choir. Great job!

"My Home's In Alabama" plays and it's hard not to get teary-eyed as Mouse (Michelle Reeser) is introduced first, 3.99 GPA in Accounting, numerous scholastic honor societies,including 3 straight years Scholastic All America.

Alexis Brion is introduced next and the entire family has tears in their eyes as they walk out. Mom is lovely in a solid white shantung silk pantsuit tonight and Dad is beaming with pride next to "Princess". Alexis has five first team All America honors and is looking for more hardware in a few weeks.

Shannon Hrozek is the last but not the least. She is brought out by her parents as well and has a huge smile on her face as she walks past press row and then hugs the coaches and receives her roses. She also is a 3 year Scholastic All America and first team All America on the balance beam.

A huge roar goes up as the smoke comes out of the Bama entryway. Fireworks go off as each gal is introduced.

pumped and the Million Dollar Band is here as well. Too bad they had an early trip back from Cleveland when our beloved basketball team was booted out of the NCAA Tournament by UWM in round one. Ah well, there's always next year.

Tommy Deas of the Tuscaloosa News stopped by to chat and provided his version of the fashion report. He is looking for the traditional baby blue and white UNC colors and was disappointed to see the metallic marine blue warm-up leos. Hopefully the gals from Chapel Hill will not disappoint him with their competition leos.

Alabama fans are now being entertained by a group of local youth dancers who are performing to one of Elvis' tunes and they are decked out in outfits reminiscent of the King's era. One dancer is even impersonating the King as the principal performer. Great job by the gals and the audience really appreciated their original style by giving them a loud applause.

All Around star in the Stanford meet.

Another star was Mari Bayer, who performed on three events against the Cardinal in front of her home town and came away with two 9.90 scores (bars and floor) and a 9.875 on the beam.

exercise tonight, Alexis will be in the fifth position and Michelle Reeser will exhibit.

Michelle had just an awesome floor routine against Stanford, all tumbling passes were executed just the way Coach ordered. If she could throw the same routine tonight, the crowd will embrace her and not let her leave at the end of the season.

turned down about 50 decibels! She will be throwing a double layout punch front tonight but the long warm-up showed mixed results on this very difficult combination tumbling pass. On vault it looks like she will be throwing a Tsukahara vault, possibly a Phelps.

The line-up on the bars is shifting as we speak. Kaitlin and Dana P. are fighting for one of the middle spots because Shannon is going to be rested for next week. She will go on vault, beam and floor for the home crowd.

Dana F. is adding the side Somi to her beam routine and just nailed it. The bar has been raised by the Coach for making the beam line-up by ensuring a higher valued routine in the judge's eyes.

Tarheels. Alabama completed the 15 minute set on vault and as a team they were gaining extra air time and it appears the extra time off has helped. Now on the uneven bars, Bama is not looking quite as crisp but this may be due to being off since the first weekend of March. Timing could be a factor tonight on this event. Brittany, Kaitlin, Dana P., Dana F., Ashley, Terin, and Mari are warming up.
