[ 8:48 PM, 03/26/05 ]
Tuscaloosa, Alabama and we need every Bama fan to be there! Bama has to be one of the two highest scoring teams (six total will compete) in order to advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn on the 21-23rd of April. We hope to see you there on April 9th (Saturday) at 6 pm to cheer our ladies on. Roll Tide and goodnight from Duluth, Georgia, where the Tide finishes 3rd in the SEC race.

In the final rotation, Georgia had already secured the championship
[ 8:45 PM, 03/26/05 ]
over LSU with a 197.250 to their 196.975. Alabama was fighting for 3rd place against the Gators of Florida, who struggled on the vault. Meanwhile, Bama hit 6 for 6 on the bars in magnificent style, starting with Brittany Comeaux (9.850), Shannon Hrozek (9.850), Dana Filetti (9.850 for a wonderful set), Ashley (9.950), Mari (9.800) and Terin iced the cake with a gorgeous 9.95 performance, highlighted by her nailing the elegant double layout dismount. Bama finished the bars with a 49.450 and a final team score of 196.700.
Alabama won 3 of the 4 events individiually:
Vault: Ashley Miles with a 9.925
Uneven Bars: Ashley and Terin with scores of 9.950
Floor Exercise: Ashley with a 9.950
Terin finished tied for 4th in the all around tonight.

Alabama next went to the vault and had a much stronger performance
[ 8:43 PM, 03/26/05 ]
as a team, 49.300. The highlight was Ashley's booming Yurchenko 1/1 for a 9.925 and freshman Kaitlin White stepped in brilliantly for junior Dana Filetti, vaulting her own Yurchenko 1/1 for a 9.850 (stuck it cold). Terin had a 9.825, Shannon a 9.850 and Alexis was conservatively scored a 9.85 for a stuck pike 1/2 twist. Another bye before the Tide prepared to finish on the uneven bars.

Alabama next went on a bye to think about their beam set and to

prepare for one of their strongest events, floor exercise. Unfortunately, the first two gymanasts up, senior Shannon Hrozek, and sophomore Erin Rightley, had major deductions. Shannon's came on the final pass, the double tuck, which she mightily strived to save after appearing to over-rotate, but sat down unfortunately for a 9.150.
Erin Rightley had the pressure on her immediately in the second routine and ended up bounding out on her super high double pike and received a 9.550 final score that had to be counted. Mari, Terin, Alexis and Ashley followed through with strong scores of 9.80 or higher and a final team score of 49.075. Bama then went on a bye for the second time.

The 2005 SEC Championships are now officially over and we can
[ 8:37 PM, 03/26/05 ]
provide you with a brief summary of how the Tide performed tonight.
Bama had possibly the most challenging rotation because they had a bye in every alternating rotation and could never really establish momentum or a steady rhythm.
Starting off on the balance beam in rotation one did not help either but the team was able to perform 5 of 6 routines without a significant mishap, ending with a 48.875 score. Ashley Miles had a terrific routine going until the dismount bit her again, this time due to over-rotating and having to sit it down. Terin Humphrey followed behind her and the pressure was on in her flight series, where she left out the connection between her full twisting back handspring and then decided to still do the bhs to a layout, no form or execution problems here. However, she did take a lunging step forward once again this week with her double tuck dismount and received a 9.700 final score. Shannon Hrozek and Mari Bayer had strong scores for the team.
