Final Results for Bama's Gymnasts in Event Finals
[ 1:27 PM, 04/24/05 ]
On the vault, Ashley Miles finishes 4th after taking a small hop back on her Yurchenko 1/1 and a step back on her Yurcheniko 1.5.
On the uneven bars, Terin Humphrey won with a 9.9375 and Ashley finished in 7th Place while Dana Filetti finished in 10th.
On the balance beam, Terin tied for 5th Place.
Floor Exercise was won by UNC's Courtney Bumpers with a perfect 10 and Ashley took 2nd with a 9.975. Awesome performances by both women.
Congratulations to the Tide for a fantastic year of gymnastics. We will have more commentary in the next week to wrap things up and give Tide fans some ideas of what we'll see in 2006, including the new signees coming in and additional recruiting updates.

Dana Filetti is looking great on the uneven bars during her long

warm-ups and Terin and Ashley had solid warm-ups as well. Terin is now on the beam with Elise Ray.

Janet Anson of Iowa State
[ 6:16 PM, 04/23/05 ]
will be vaulting a Yurchenko 1/1 and what looks like a laid out Arabian.
Ashley Miles will vault the Yurchenko 1/1 and the 1 1/2.

On the vault it looks like Kristen Maloney
[ 6:08 PM, 04/23/05 ]
will throw a Yurchenko 1/1 and a DTY.
Jenny Deiley of Michigan is throwing a Yurchenko 1/1 and will try a Yurchenko 1 1/2 for her second vault (not getting it so far unfortunately).
Courtney Bumpers will throw a double layout-punch front to stag leap combination and a double front Arabian for her second pass. She usually finishes with a double pike. Staying in bounds will be her challenge for the first and second passes.

We are back for some brief notes.
[ 5:53 PM, 04/23/05 ]
It looks like Ashley Postell of Utah will be fine for tonight's competition (she qualified for vault, bars, and balance beam).
April Burkholder is practicing back-to-back passes and may throw either a fourth pass or two in combination to bump up her potential to pull off a win. But there is more competition in the floor exercise than ever before, including top tumblers Kristen Maloney, Courtney Bumpers and Ashley Miles, not to mention Tasha Schwikert, Emily Parsons and our own Terin Humphrey, who has 3 E level passes.

We'll sign off for now and hope you'll listen to the radio coverage to

see how our girls do, starting at 6:45 with the official event finals to commence at 7:00 pm. Roll Tide!

Alabama's gymnasts competing tonight have just entered the arena
[ 5:07 PM, 04/23/05 ]
to prepare for the long warm-ups on each event. Fans have started to arrive as well. The competition begins at 7 pm.

Ashley and Terin have early draws on the floor exercise
[ 4:59 PM, 04/23/05 ]
(#4 and #2 positions respectively) and Courtney Bumpers of UNC, who shared the top honor with Ashley last year, is in the #5 position. Another ten gymnasts will compete after them so they will need to set the bar high from the beginning to repeat as champions on this event.

The balance beam will be tightly contested between
[ 4:56 PM, 04/23/05 ]
former elite gymnasts Schwikert, Ray, Humphrey, Tabitha Yim, Ashley Postell, Kate Richardson, and Kristen Maloney. And sophomore Kristi Esposito of Nebraska will also throw her hat into the ring on her most confident event.

The uneven bars also will showcase elite level gymnasts,
[ 4:54 PM, 04/23/05 ]
including Elise Ray of Michigan and Tasha Schwikert of UCLA, both members of the 2000 Olympic team. Terin Humphrey is the reigning silver medalist from the 2004 Olympics on the uneven bars and will go last in the line-up, which sets her up well for securing top honors on this event.

around. The weather improved today to about 66 degrees and partially sunny/white scuddy clouds overhead.
We will see some wonderful gymnastics again tonight with USA Champions, World Team Champions and an Olympic Medalist vying for top honors. Will Ashley Miles secure her third straight vault title and second floor exercise title? The competition on floor is fierce, where no less than 15 gymnasts will seek the title. Vault has a total of 12 contenders and the favorites look to be Kristen Maloney of UCLA, Miles of Alabama and Annabeth Eberle of Utah.
