  • Bama was still ‘Thinking Pink’, but wearing beautiful crimson velveteen leos tonight.

  • Terin Humphrey – First all-around of the year, 1st place.

  • Speaking of Terin, she added an Arabian double front to her floor routine and her Markelov returned to her bar routine (that’s not one, but with her Gienger, two major release moves for her bar routine).

  • While Terin was busy winning the all-around, Melanie Banville filled in for her in the 1st place slot on bars. Melanie’s smooth work and high-flying double layout dismount were more than good enough for a 9.90.

  • Kentucky’s crowd of 2,312 bought the total ‘away attendance’ Bama has performed in front of to 14,648 for 4 away meets. That’s still some 514 shy of the 15,162 strong crowd the GymTide drew for their single home meet in Coleman coliseum against Florida.

  • Ashley Miles was once age untouchable on vault…wait, not so fast! Ashley’s protégé, Brittany Magee, managed to stay stride for stride with Ashley for twin 9.95’s and a shared vault title. ‘M and M’ also paced each other on floor, both throwing ‘E’ and ‘D’ tumbling passes o’plenty.

  • Cassie Martin struggled in long warm-ups with her Arabian double front tumbling pass on floor. Then it came time for the three-minute touch and it was still not working. However - we mentioned last week that Cassie is really a trooper – all she did was to come out and land the best Arabian double front we’ve seen this year from anyone. She was really ‘on’ tonight and did a great job on all three of her events (bars, beam, and floor).

  • Erin Rightley continued her good work on beam and floor, scoring 9.80. Her performance on both came at critical times and afforded her due consideration for the week’s ‘go to’ gymnast.

  • Kentucky’s Memorial Coliseum, like Bryant-Denny stadium, is just one of those places true fans of SEC athletics need to go. Talk about ‘waking up the echoes…”
