  • Post-meet Buzz 'Podcast': 2006 Bama vs. Arkansas (2.15 MB) - in WMA format, which requires the MS Media Player.

  • It's not a gym meet, it's a 'happening' - it's where everyone wants to be on a Friday night in Tuscaloosa. The GymTide is now averaging an astonishing 14300-plus after three home meets. Give yourselves a hand, Bama GymNation, you're the best!

  • Yes, the scoring was low, but pretty consistent, overall. It made for an interesting night for the fans, however, who were all geared up to jump and cheer, but had to spend the night knocking on wood and holding their breath, instead.

  • Speaking of scoring, it was 'Deja vu all over again'. For a few years we got the 'gremlins' each time Kentucky was the opponent. Then it seems, as soon as we chased the gremlins away from Kentucky, the 'low-score bug' attached itself to the Gym'Backs. Last year's trip to Arkansas turned into a 'trip to the beach' with the scoring - and we all caught a whiff of salt air and suntan lotion in Coleman coliseum last night.

  • Buzz, buzz, buzz...when's Brittany Magee going to do bars? When's Brittany Magee going to do bars? When's Brittany Magee going to do bars? Well...Brittany warmed up on bars during the long warm-up before the meet and looked almost ready. Maybe an 'exhibition' on bars down on the bayou in two weeks, then a 'counter' back home against Stanford on March 10th? Buzz, buzz, buzz...

  • The coaches wanted to give some different gymnasts a chance to lead off each event 'just in case'. Most every event worked out well, with one funny exception. On balance beam, freshman Cassie Martin took over the lead-off spot from freshman Brittany Magee, who subbed in for Terin Humphrey in the anchor spot. So, there was Cassie, waiting to begin the beam rotation. There was all-star announcer Tony Giles letting the crowd know that Cassie was ready. There was the team, gathered around holding hands, waiting to cheer her on. There was the head judge holding the green flag, waiting to give her the signal to begin...but...where was the other judge? There was a table, and a chair, and a couple of assistants for the 'score flasher'...but no judge. Oh...there she is! Still over at the vault table, finishing up that rotation. Poor Cassie was there for experience leading off, and, boy, did she ever get it!

  • Another funny thing happened after the beam rotation. The 'YMCA dads' lined up on the staircase to lead to crowd in their customary 'Village People' routine, but failed to notice that they lined up as the 'MYCA' dads, by mistake. Luckily, someone clicked the 'spellchecker' about half-way through and they realigned!

  • Terin Humphrey is '2 for 3' in the all-around this season after winning it with a 38.975 last night. Some gymnasts are just made for the all-around and Terin is one of them. Oh! If she had just done the all-around in Greece in 2004...

  • A couple other natural all-arounders, Ashley Miles and Melanie Banville - both fierce competitors you really want out there - also appear to be rounding into shape for the all-around. Both are fixtures in the vault and floor line-ups, both have worked hard to overcome impediments on bars, and both showed progress in their balance beam exhibitions last night.

  • Now it's on to the bayou in two weeks, hope to see all of you there!
