  • The GymTide‘s 196.425-195.850 win at LSU - along win their victory at the season opening Super Six Challenge - makes for two successful trips to Baton Rouge this season. And, since LSU is once again hosting the Central Regional, a third ‘go-round’ is possible.

  • Baton Rouge has always been a bustling place; even more so now after the influx of refugee’s from hurricane Katrina. Old ‘Red Stick’ has broad shoulders though, and has weathered that storm and its aftermath very well. LSU’s campus remains one of the most beautiful anywhere and Baton Rouge is still a fun place to visit.

  • Terin Humphrey’s 39.475 score was just enough to edge out LSU super senior April Burkholder ‘s 39.400 in the all-around. Terin and April tied on every event except bars, where Terin’s 9.85 was .075 better than April’s 9.775.

  • As usual in Baton Rouge, there was a large cheering section of devoted Rachael Delahoussaye friends and family in attendance. Not to be outdone, however, was the Kaitlin White fan club. And, of course, the Ashley Miles group sent a large contingent. In fact, there was a very sizable crowd of Bama friends, family, and fans on hand to cheer on the Tide.

  • Bama had its second highest beam score of the year with a 49.050, under very – completely unnecessarily – adverse conditions. Some of the most adverse of all came during Mari Bayer’s and Cassie Martin’s routines. And that’s all we’re going to say about that.

  • Ashley O’Neal’s opening pass on floor, a double front, is worth the price of admission to see. She only takes about three or four steps into it and just explodes off the floor. Coach Patterson has commented that Ashley reminds her of former Tide great Andreé Pickens and that comparison is right on the mark.

  • Cassie Martin did not perform her beautiful floor routine at LSU, but she did do a commendable exhibition on vault, a good ol’ ‘Yurchenko 1/2 on, front pike off’. (Yeah, we know, we had no clue what she was doing either until we asked the PBAs after the meet!) Cassie is now yet another candidate for the all-around.

  • The GymTide had FIVE gymnasts on floor that threw opening 'E-level' tumbling passes - and nailed them, including Brittany Magee who both opened and closed with an 'E-level' pass.

  • One-half of the roster for Bama's beam rotation seems to have solidified with Brittany Magee leading off, followed by Erin Rightley somewhere in the middle, and Terin Humphrey finishing up. There is still a close competition going on for the remaining routines, which will likely require the coaches to make a tough choice of the most consistent three of the following: Melanie Banville, Mari Bayer, Cassie Martin, Ashley Miles and Ashley O'Neal.
