  • It’s hard to complain when - not only is your won/loss record 19 and 2 and your only losses came to the reigning national champions by a total of less than third a point - but also you have just performed your best night of gymnastics of the season…so we won’t!

  • Fashion report: loved the bright crimson and white leotards. There’s no doubt that the dark crimson leos are classy and elegant, but there’s just something special about the more traditional Crimson Tide look.

  • No matter how many times you see her, Ashley Miles is simply incredible. When she performs, every eye in the house is on her. Even on the huge floor of the BJCC, even in a tournament filled with All-Americans and Olympians and gymnasts of the year, Ashley’s electric personality and sheer athletic brilliance combine to run a thrill through the crowd and fill up the entire building with anticipation.

  • Freshmen performed 9 of Bama’s 24 routines, averaging an amazing 9.85 score per routine. Freshman Brittany Magee received a 9.95 for her virtually flawless floor routine, good enough to share first place on floor with Kelsey Ericksen and teammate Ashley Miles. Fellow freshman Melanie Banville’s 9.90 won her a first place tie on the uneven bars with Kelsey Ericksen and fellow former Olympian, Courtney Kupets

  • Kudos go out to senior Mari Bayer. With all she has gone through this year, it was gratifying to she her out there and performing well on two of her specialties, bars and beam. Our only regret is that we haven’t gotten to see her graceful, almost lyrical style on the floor exercise this year.

  • The tight scoring on vault Saturday evening has been duly noted. However, since this is ‘the Buzz’, after all, it’s the perfect place to engage in a little ‘what if’. It was easy to see how Bama was able to put the vault behind them and respond very well to the, perhaps, looser scoring on the other events with some of their best scores of the season. ‘What if’ every apparatus had been scored as tightly as the vault? We know that Bama and Arkansas have seen scoring like that for an entire meet, but how would the other teams have responded? Just something to keep in the back of your mind if the judging is tight at Regionals or Nationals.

  • Ashley Miles won the SEC floor exercise for an SEC record fourth consecutive time. No other gymnast has won four consecutive SEC individual titles on one apparatus.

  • How about those podiums? They really lend an 'Olympic' air to the proceedings, not to mention making it easier to see the competitors. It's also interesting that the SEC used podiums, but, apparently, the NCAA will not this year.
