We're ready to head out of here and get some chow. Let's sell out
[ 8:56 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Coleman Coliseum next week for the Alabama-Georgia meet. Get your tickets this next week if you don't already have them, it's going to be a great meet between two undefeated, Top Three teams. Roll Tide and goodnight from the campus of the University of Kentucky where the Tide rolls to a 10-0 perfect start, 196.650 to 194.250.
[ top... ]
Terin left some of her signature chalk behind as she typed in her
[ 8:44 PM, 02/03/06 ]
message to her parents, so we're gonna sell it to her millions of fans around the world. Just kidding! She got a good chuckle out of that. Brittany Magee is horsing around next to us as well, getting ready to be interviewed after Terin. She had a stellar performance tonight on the vault, floor and beam.
[ top... ]
Here's direct commentary from Terin:
[ 8:42 PM, 02/03/06 ]
"ha ha mom and dad! You know the horse can come later...Just kidding. I wish you could be here! See you sometime hopefully soon. I love you!"
[ top... ]
Hey mom and dad!
[ 8:38 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Your daughter Terin says "I love you! Wish you could be here!" She's chatting about horses with Susan Moore, who shares her love for these gorgeous animals. "Mom, Dad, how about a buckskin for my birthday?"

Bama finishes with a 196.650, again using depth and resting some

top performers on certain events. Terin Humphrey wins her first all around, 39.375. Kentucky's Cook is in second with a 39.125 and Burgin a 38.425.
[ top... ]
Filetti is also exhibiting, throwing a handstand to immediate
[ 8:26 PM, 02/03/06 ]
back handspring to Korbut, switch leap to straddle-straddle combination, sheep jump, double twist dismount. Sorry we could not get the score, the judges are finalizing their totals with the head judge, Yvonne Hodge.
[ top... ]
Banville is exhibiting beam and doing terrific.
[ 8:24 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Split full jump, back handspring to layout step-out, front punch, switch leap to side straddle jump combination, full turn, double twist dismount, tiny step to balance the landing. She receives a 9.775.
[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey receives a 9.875 for her beam routine and wins the
[ 8:24 PM, 02/03/06 ]
all around. Hite of Kentucky falls on her final pass, a double tuck.
[ top... ]
KY"s Cook receives a 9.825 for her floor routine. Not enough difficulty in
[ 8:22 PM, 02/03/06 ]
some of her dance moves possibly and the last pass being not up to the competition but her first two passes were excellent.
[ top... ]
Martin receives a 9.775, not sure where that many deductions came from.
[ 8:20 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Terin Humphrey is now up and does the Humphrey perfectly. Full twisting back handspring to back handspring to layout stepout. Punch front and then a switch leap to wolf to Omeliantchik (a little rushed) and then dismounts with a gainer full twist, tiny hop back.
[ top... ]
Rubenstein receives a 9.775 for her floor routine.
[ 8:19 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Cook of Kentucky opens with a soaring double tuck, beautiful control, form midair and landing. Beautiful double pike for her second pass, another terrific landing. Two layouts to close.
[ top... ]
Cassie throws the switch ring leap, front aerial, slight lift of left leg to
[ 8:17 PM, 02/03/06 ]
balance, nice back handspring to layout step-out; switch leap to double stag leap and she dismounts with a stuck back handspring to gainer full twist! All right. One more to bank and we'll be home free.
[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.800 for her beam routine.
[ 8:16 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Cassie Martin is up next for the Tide. Just like last week Cassie!
[ top... ]
O'Shields receives a 9.00 for her floor routine.
[ 8:15 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Rubenstein opens with a triple, nice height and landing. Fell out of her cat leap full and stumbles a bit in recovery; second pass of a double pike, landed on a mat, two steps to balance; she finishes with a double twist.
[ top... ]
Bayer receives a 9.525 and Rightley is on and through her front
[ 8:13 PM, 02/03/06 ]
aerial, nice back handspring to layout stepout; switch leap to straddle, full turn, switch leap to pike jump (nice!). She dismounts with a back handspring to gainer full twist, one small step back on the landing. Whoosh! We need two more strong routines!
[ top... ]
Riley receives a 9.775.
[ 8:12 PM, 02/03/06 ]
O'Shields throws a whip to double pike but lands it with two large steps forward to balance. She finishes with a front-front layout to front full (sits it down).
[ top... ]
Priess receives a 9.025 and Mari Bayer is up next for the Tide.
[ 8:09 PM, 02/03/06 ]
It's time for the senior to lead on this event. She mounts the beam with a side shoulder press, throws the back handspring to layout step-out, slight balance check; nice switch leap 1/2 turn; full turn, front aerial; double stag; switch leap to side straddle jump and she dismounts with a gainer back pike. She had another balance check earlier when stepping her foot back and had to check at the waist, so another deduction there.
[ top... ]
Riley hits her double tuck on another thick mat but stays in bounds.
[ 8:08 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Front-front full to front layout, a little leg separation. She finishes with another front-front full front pike.
[ top... ]
Magee receives a 9.850 for her beam routine. Way to start us off.
[ 8:06 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Courtney Priess is through her straddle-straddle flight series and then falls on the back pike (flight series second element). Nice wolf full and a gorgeous punch front landed chest high. She stumbles on the switch leap, turns and then throws the gainer back pike off the other end to avoid further deductions. Drat!
Burgin received a 9.525 for her floor routine.
[ top... ]
Burgin steps out of bounds on her opening double tuck (thick mat was
[ 8:04 PM, 02/03/06 ]
laid out for her landing); nice music (Riverdance?); front-front full-front layout, one step to the side on the landing but otherwise nicely controlled. She finishes with more front tumbling, front full to front pike.
[ top... ]
We're ready to roll.
[ 8:01 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Magee is up for the Tide and throws a perfect flight series this week of the one-handed back handspring to layout step-out, followed by the front aerial, switch leap to wolf jump, punch front (perfect) and she dismounts with an awesome double tuck, tiny step in place. This should score very well.
[ top... ]
Looks like there will be a line-up change on beam, as Sarah moves
[ 7:55 PM, 02/03/06 ]
to the head table. We do know that Brittany Magee will start again for the Tide and Filetti will come out of the line-up. We'll know shortly who will replace her.
[ top... ]
Bama finishes on floor with a 49.300 and Kentucky a 48.400 on the beam.
[ 7:53 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Bama's running total is 147.825 and Kentucky's 145.975.
[ top... ]
Miles receives a 9.95 (one judge gave her the 10).
[ 7:49 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Dana time!
Nice double pike, step back but stays in bounds. Nobody leaps like Dana Pierce, gorgeous flexibility and amplitude on her straddle full and straddle combos. Nice front layout to front layout, and she will finish with one of our favorite passes, the double twist to immediate punch front. Almost there, but another sit down. Maybe this pass needs to be moved to either her first pass or the second one, when she has extra energy.
[ top... ]
Miles hits the double layout and follows up with a stuck front-front full
[ 7:47 PM, 02/03/06 ]
front layout. Jimi Hendrix time! And now ode to Shannon Hrozek as she grooves to the percussion beat and finishes with a double pike.
Next is our favorite gal, Dana Pierce, exhibiting on floor.
[ top... ]
Martin receives a 9.875 for a wonderful routine on floor.
[ 7:46 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Credit the coaches for trusting her and seeing something in the long warm-ups that said "go with it". Ashley Miles is up next.
[ top... ]
Riley receives a 9.650 on beam for Kentucky and Hite is last for the
[ 7:45 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Wildcats.
[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.800. One tenth for the balance checks on
[ 7:42 PM, 02/03/06 ]
the opening and final passes, otherwise an awesome routine.
Cassie Martin is now up for her brand of the double front Arabian and she nails it! Happy girl as she turns with a smile to dance and then nails the second pass, front handspring-front layout to front full (on a dime!). Ring leap and then she finishes with a confident double twist.
[ top... ]
Humphrey finishes with a double pike, one step to her left on the
[ 7:42 PM, 02/03/06 ]
landing to balance it but she stands it up.
[ top... ]
Terin lands the double front Arabian, one step back.
[ 7:40 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Perfect 2 1/2 to punch front, no movement! Now for some sassy dance moves, including a double turn.
[ top... ]
Magee gets a 9.875 on floor.
[ 7:39 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Terin Humphrey is up next. Cook received a 9.575 on beam and O'Shields a 9.700 for the Wildcats.
[ top... ]
Erin receives a 9.800 for her floor routine.
[ 7:35 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Magee is now hitting her first and second passes very well, including the opening 1/2 in 1/2 out and the whip-whip-back handspring to double pike; she finishes with a front to a double full, excedlent control on the landing. This should score well.
[ top... ]
Erin Rightley stands up her double pike, one step back though but
[ 7:32 PM, 02/03/06 ]
she stays in bounds. Nice front-front full to front layout. Nice dance and expression in her moves and she finishes with a front through to a Rudi (1 1/2 twist). Good effort.
[ top... ]
Judges are consulting on Cannon's routine's start value.
[ 7:29 PM, 02/03/06 ]
She receives a 9.65. Burgin walks back out of her layout stepout but stays on the beam. Switch leap to two straddles, a little balance check. She receives a 9.400.
White receives a 9.675, pretty strict.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin White gets us started on floor and opens with a huge double
[ 7:27 PM, 02/03/06 ]
pike, one step forward to check the landing but awesome height in the process. She follows with a punch layout to Rudi (1 1/2 twist), nicely landed as well. Nice dance and presentation so far. Straddle full to straddle leap combination and she will finish with a round off whip 1/2 to whip full, one foot stepped out, so that will be automatic one tenth deduction. Shucks!
[ top... ]
Cannon is waiting for the judges to give her the okay to go on beam.
[ 7:24 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Round off layout step-out flight series, switch leap to straddle-straddle combo, gainer layout-stepout, full turn, gainer full twist off the side of the beam.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin White will start the Tide off on floor.
[ 7:22 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Crissy Cannon will go on beam first for the Wildcats.
[ top... ]
The Tide moves to floor exercise and we need crisp landings from
[ 7:17 PM, 02/03/06 ]
out ladies, in bounds! Nice 1/2 in 1/2 out just then from Magee. Pierce is warming up and just threw a terrific double twist to punch front combination. Kaitlin may be adding the round off whip 1/2 to whip full combo.
[ top... ]
Miles slightly shifts on the landing of her Yurchenko 1/1 for a matching
[ 7:13 PM, 02/03/06 ]
9.95. Bama ties last week's vault score of 49.425 and they have a running score of 98.525.
Krystle Cook receives a 9.875 for a Tkatchev (very high) and a vertical straddle back to handstand on the low bar, stuck double layout, but landed bent forward at the waist to balance her landing. This is her best event.
[ top... ]
Sevier receives a 9.575 on the bars and Rubenstein throws a hop
[ 7:11 PM, 02/03/06 ]
full near the end of her routine, another giant and then a 1/2 in 1/2 out dismount, stuck the landing. Kentucky has some nice difficulty and original moves but the loose form and missed handstands are getting deducted heavily. Apparently the judges forgave Rubenstein and gave her a 9.875 for the nice difficulty.
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee follows with a stuck Yurchenko 1/1 for a 9.95.
[ 7:10 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Magnificent form and distance.
[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.875 for her Yurchenko 1/1.
[ 7:09 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Sevier throws a full twisting Tkatchev but form suffers with soft knees unfortunately and flexed feet, some missed handstands as well, double layout dismount, one step on the landing.
[ top... ]
Sarucci did a nice Jaeger release between the bars and dismounts with
[ 7:08 PM, 02/03/06 ]
a double tuck, one step on the landing. Again, missed handstands and loose form cost her deductions for a 9.625.
[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey nails her Yurchenko 1/1! First time out this year on
[ 7:07 PM, 02/03/06 ]
vault. A little piked down but she was thrilled regardless.
[ top... ]
Filetti stands up the Hristakieva for a 9.825 (nice form in the air).
[ 7:06 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Cannon receives a 9.725 on bars, so the judges are staying pretty consistent so far in deducting for missed perfection on the handstands.
[ top... ]
Burgin receives a 9.725 for her bars routine and White a 9.80 for her
[ 7:04 PM, 02/03/06 ]
vault. Crissy Cannon completes her bars routine, double layout dismount, one step on the landing. She had a Tkatchev release but missed vertical on several handstands.
[ top... ]
Banville receives a 9.825 for her vault.
[ 7:03 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Kaitlin White is next and will throw the Yurchenko 1/1 as well. She sticks the landing but there is a pike down and slight shoulder shift to the left as she holds the landing, so that will be deducted.
[ top... ]
We need stuck landings!
[ 6:57 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Melanie Banville will start us off on vault for the fifth week in a row. She vaults a strong Yurchenko 1/1, slight shuffle on the landing.
Lucy Burgin is up and throws a nice Jaeger release and lands the double front with a large step forward.
[ top... ]
Bama has a 49.100 on the uneven bars, having to count one of the
[ 6:56 PM, 02/03/06 ]
9.725 scores. Kentucky is at 48.750.
[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey throws both release moves (Markelov and Gienger)
[ 6:51 PM, 02/03/06 ]
and hits the double layout, tiniest of hops on the landing. We need a big score! She receives a stingy 9.825. The judges want perfectly vertical handstands tonight.
Mari Bayer exhibits on the bars and has trouble during a giant uprise to handstand (bends at knees to kip up) and ends up getting hit hard by the judges with a 9.425. We will reexamine the video more closely to see where the other deductions came for the post-meet commentary.
[ top... ]
Banville receives a well-deserved 9.90 for her bars.
[ 6:48 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Filetti is now up and doing better on her handstands until the final one near her dismount, which will be deducted. She stands up the double front and hops back on the landing as well. Final score of 9.725.
[ top... ]
Hite of Kentucky receives a 9.675 on vault, Burgin a 9.775 and
[ 6:48 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Rubenstein a 9.725. Cook just threw a Hristakieva but jammed it a bit and took a step back.
[ top... ]
Martin receives a 9.875 and Melanie Banville just rocked her entire
[ 6:47 PM, 02/03/06 ]
routine! Hit the straddle back to handstand perfectly after struggling in practice and nails the double layout!
[ top... ]
Priess gets a 9.775 and we are
[ 6:44 PM, 02/03/06 ]
perplexed here on press row. Definitely thought that one would score higher. Cassie Martin just hit all of her elements (toe-on toe-off to Tkatchev to pak Salto) and stuck the double tuck dismount.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin gets a 9.725 on bars and
[ 6:42 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Courtney Priess just hit a beautiful routine, including a full turn to Tkatchev and a perfect straddle back to handstand, along with the toe-on toe-off right before she rocked the landing of her Arabian double front dismount. Very nice!
[ top... ]
O'Shields gets a 9.775 for her vault and Hite vaults a Yurchenko 1/1
[ 6:41 PM, 02/03/06 ]
but takes two steps back despite getting better distance and maintaining better form in the air.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin White is through her Gienger release and the pak Salto and
[ 6:40 PM, 02/03/06 ]
takes a small hop forward on the double tuck out of a full turn.
[ top... ]
Kristen O'Shields starts off for Kentucky on vault.
[ 6:39 PM, 02/03/06 ]
She throws a Yurchenko 1/1 and nails the landing but gained limited amplitude and distance, so there will be a deduction.
[ top... ]
Starting out for the Tide on bars tonight will be
[ 6:39 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Kaitlin White, Courtney Priess, Cassie Martin, Melanie Banville, Dana Filetti, and then Terin Humphrey.
[ top... ]
If the first five ladies hit their routines, look for Terin to throw both of her
[ 6:38 PM, 02/03/06 ]
release moves tonight on the bars. So far she has looked terrific with these moves in long and short warm-ups.
[ top... ]
Coach Sarah Patterson mentioned earlier in her radio interview on
[ 6:36 PM, 02/03/06 ]
WVUA that freshman Melanie Banville, who had a terrific performance last week against Auburn on 3 events, was experiencing a little mid-season fatigue in practice this week and was therefore resting on floor tonight. We may see her on beam (exhibition), bars and vault according to the line-up.
[ top... ]
Fashion Report!
[ 6:29 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Bama is wearing the matching lipstick red velveteen leo with sheer red fabric on the sleeves, highlighted by silver sequins on the upper shoulders.
Kentucky is dressed in almost a black blue lycra with a lighter blue sheer netting on the arms and upper shoulders, silver sequins as well adorning in a criss-cross pattern across the front.
[ top... ]
Sirens are going off as the Wildcats are introduced. A new jumbotron
[ 6:28 PM, 02/03/06 ]
features Kentucky's gymnasts to some hip hop music and Coach Muhammed looks fiercely at the camera before they fade to the floor and the team runs out to hearty applause.
[ top... ]
The Tide is being introduced to a small, intimate crowd. They are
[ 6:19 PM, 02/03/06 ]
dressed in lipstick red velvet warm-ups. The Tide has a nice partisan crowd that has traveled to support them here tonight, approximately 50 it looks like directly across from press row.
[ top... ]
The ladies have retreated to the locker rooms to don their competition
[ 6:11 PM, 02/03/06 ]
leos and we will have a fashion report shortly. The national anthem has just been played over the public address while the crowd stood and saluted the flag. Showtime almost here!
[ top... ]
Banville, if she goes on beam tonight, will dismount with a double twist.
[ 6:08 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Nice straddle full turn jump. The Humphrey is a triple turn in lunge position mount that Terin has named after her. Nice double twist dismount right then from Dana Filetti.
[ top... ]
Filetti is looking good on the beam, throwing a switch leap to straddle-
[ 6:06 PM, 02/03/06 ]
straddle combination and a back handspring to Korbut (straddle back dive onto the beam).
[ top... ]
Bama has now moved to the balance beam and we see Terin, Cassie,
[ 6:01 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Courtney, Mari, Brittany, Ashley, Melanie, Erin, and Dana Filetti!
[ top... ]
For Alabama, they need to hit all of their uneven bars routines and
[ 5:59 PM, 02/03/06 ]
work extra hard to stick the landings to maximize the scoring on this event as a nice segue into their highest scoring event of the season so far, the vault. Big performances especially from Terin Humphrey, Ashley Miles, Kaitlin White, Dana Filetti and Brittany Magee will be needed to keep the meet under control from start to finish.
[ top... ]
Keys to victory tonight
[ 5:55 PM, 02/03/06 ]
For Kentucky they will need a strong all around performance from junior Krystle Cook, who excels on the uneven bars and has good difficulty on the remaining 3 events. If the Wildcats can start off strong on vault and uneven bars, they will put immediate pressure on the Tide. Bama will be resting some of their higher scoring gymnasts like Melanie Banville and Ashley Miles on certain events to prepare for the showdown next week against Georgia and this could provide an opening for the Wildcats if the Tide's depth falters.
[ top... ]
Looks like Ashley will finish up this week on floor for the Tide to get
[ 5:53 PM, 02/03/06 ]
ready for the Dawgs next week. She took a break on 3 events last week due to flu symptoms but came through with an incredible vault at Auburn for a 9.975. Gorgeous super high double pike right in front of us from Kaitlin White! Through the roof! Perfect landing as well.
[ top... ]
Terin will be in the fifth position and Mel will rest this week on floor
[ 5:51 PM, 02/03/06 ]
it looks like. She is getting extra work on her vault right now and struggled a bit with the straddle back to handstand on the bars earlier, so may have carried over a little frustration. She just hit a nice Yurchenko 1/1 so hopefully the bats are out of the belfry. The music is way too loud in here and may be affecting our girl's concentration. It needs to be turned down.
[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is fourth in the line-up for warm-ups. Beautiful
[ 5:49 PM, 02/03/06 ]
2 1/2 twist right then from Terin.
[ top... ]
Terin just nailed that double front Arabian on floor! Next up is Erin
[ 5:47 PM, 02/03/06 ]
Rightley's music, so she may be third in the line-up. Ashley Miles and Cassie Martin are also warming up on floor.
[ top... ]
Bama now moves to the floor exercise for another 15 minute touch
[ 5:44 PM, 02/03/06 ]
warm-up and Brittany Magee's music starts us off. Kaitlin White is up second and Terin Humphrey may be throwing the double front Arabian tonight!
[ top... ]
Kentucky is very impressive on the uneven bars with regard to their
[ 5:42 PM, 02/03/06 ]
dismounts. Several nice double layouts and a beautiful double front from Lucy Burgin, sister of former Tider Helen Burgin.
[ top... ]
Speaking of Terin Humphrey, she will be in the vault line-up tonight
[ 5:39 PM, 02/03/06 ]
and just threw a gorgeous Yurchenko 1/1 in the 15 minute warm-up. Erin Rightley is also vaulting tonight and has thrown two nice Yurchenko 1/1 reps as well. Ashley O'Neal, Kaitlin, Filetti, Banville, Ford, Miles are warming up as well.
[ top... ]
Bama has completed the 15 minute warm-up on uneven bars and
[ 5:31 PM, 02/03/06 ]
we saw Mari Bayer go through her reps very confidently, along with Ashley Miles, Courtney Priess, Cassie Martin, Terin Humphrey, Dana Filetti, Melanie Banville, Kaitlin White and Amanda Montgomery.
Terin Humphrey threw both releases in her warm-up, the Markelov and the Gienger and had several stuck double layouts.
[ top... ]
We are live from the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington
[ 5:30 PM, 02/03/06 ]
where the University of Alabama Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team will go for their tenth victory of the 2006 season against a confident Wildcats team. Kentucky is undefeated like the Tide but ranked 18th whereas the Tide comes in at #3 in the nation.
