Terin Humphrey is now up and does the Humphrey perfectly. Full twisting back handspring to back handspring to layout stepout. Punch front and then a switch leap to wolf to Omeliantchik (a little rushed) and then dismounts with a gainer full twist, tiny hop back.

Cook of Kentucky opens with a soaring double tuck, beautiful control, form midair and landing. Beautiful double pike for her second pass, another terrific landing. Two layouts to close.

Cassie Martin is up next for the Tide. Just like last week Cassie!

Rubenstein opens with a triple, nice height and landing. Fell out of her cat leap full and stumbles a bit in recovery; second pass of a double pike, landed on a mat, two steps to balance; she finishes with a double twist.

aerial, nice back handspring to layout stepout; switch leap to straddle, full turn, switch leap to pike jump (nice!). She dismounts with a back handspring to gainer full twist, one small step back on the landing. Whoosh! We need two more strong routines!

O'Shields throws a whip to double pike but lands it with two large steps forward to balance. She finishes with a front-front layout to front full (sits it down).

It's time for the senior to lead on this event. She mounts the beam with a side shoulder press, throws the back handspring to layout step-out, slight balance check; nice switch leap 1/2 turn; full turn, front aerial; double stag; switch leap to side straddle jump and she dismounts with a gainer back pike. She had another balance check earlier when stepping her foot back and had to check at the waist, so another deduction there.

Front-front full to front layout, a little leg separation. She finishes with another front-front full front pike.

Courtney Priess is through her straddle-straddle flight series and then falls on the back pike (flight series second element). Nice wolf full and a gorgeous punch front landed chest high. She stumbles on the switch leap, turns and then throws the gainer back pike off the other end to avoid further deductions. Drat!

Burgin received a 9.525 for her floor routine.

Dana time!

Nice double pike, step back but stays in bounds. Nobody leaps like Dana Pierce, gorgeous flexibility and amplitude on her straddle full and straddle combos. Nice front layout to front layout, and she will finish with one of our favorite passes, the double twist to immediate punch front. Almost there, but another sit down. Maybe this pass needs to be moved to either her first pass or the second one, when she has extra energy.

Next is our favorite gal, Dana Pierce, exhibiting on floor.

Magee is now hitting her first and second passes very well, including the opening 1/2 in 1/2 out and the whip-whip-back handspring to double pike; she finishes with a front to a double full, excedlent control on the landing. This should score well.

She receives a 9.65. Burgin walks back out of her layout stepout but stays on the beam. Switch leap to two straddles, a little balance check. She receives a 9.400.

White receives a 9.675, pretty strict.

pike, one step forward to check the landing but awesome height in the process. She follows with a punch layout to Rudi (1 1/2 twist), nicely landed as well. Nice dance and presentation so far. Straddle full to straddle leap combination and she will finish with a round off whip 1/2 to whip full, one foot stepped out, so that will be automatic one tenth deduction. Shucks!

Krystle Cook receives a 9.875 for a Tkatchev (very high) and a vertical straddle back to handstand on the low bar, stuck double layout, but landed bent forward at the waist to balance her landing. This is her best event.

Kentucky has some nice difficulty and original moves but the loose form and missed handstands are getting deducted heavily. Apparently the judges forgave Rubenstein and gave her a 9.875 for the nice difficulty.

Sevier throws a full twisting Tkatchev but form suffers with soft knees unfortunately and flexed feet, some missed handstands as well, double layout dismount, one step on the landing.

vault. A little piked down but she was thrilled regardless.

Cannon receives a 9.725 on bars, so the judges are staying pretty consistent so far in deducting for missed perfection on the handstands.

vault. Crissy Cannon completes her bars routine, double layout dismount, one step on the landing. She had a Tkatchev release but missed vertical on several handstands.

Kaitlin White is next and will throw the Yurchenko 1/1 as well. She sticks the landing but there is a pike down and slight shoulder shift to the left as she holds the landing, so that will be deducted.

Melanie Banville will start us off on vault for the fifth week in a row. She vaults a strong Yurchenko 1/1, slight shuffle on the landing.

Lucy Burgin is up and throws a nice Jaeger release and lands the double front with a large step forward.

9.725 scores. Kentucky is at 48.750.

and hits the double layout, tiniest of hops on the landing. We need a big score! She receives a stingy 9.825. The judges want perfectly vertical handstands tonight.

Mari Bayer exhibits on the bars and has trouble during a giant uprise to handstand (bends at knees to kip up) and ends up getting hit hard by the judges with a 9.425. We will reexamine the video more closely to see where the other deductions came for the post-meet commentary.

Filetti is now up and doing better on her handstands until the final one near her dismount, which will be deducted. She stands up the double front and hops back on the landing as well. Final score of 9.725.

Rubenstein a 9.725. Cook just threw a Hristakieva but jammed it a bit and took a step back.

perplexed here on press row. Definitely thought that one would score higher. Cassie Martin just hit all of her elements (toe-on toe-off to Tkatchev to pak Salto) and stuck the double tuck dismount.

Courtney Priess just hit a beautiful routine, including a full turn to Tkatchev and a perfect straddle back to handstand, along with the toe-on toe-off right before she rocked the landing of her Arabian double front dismount. Very nice!

WVUA that freshman Melanie Banville, who had a terrific performance last week against Auburn on 3 events, was experiencing a little mid-season fatigue in practice this week and was therefore resting on floor tonight. We may see her on beam (exhibition), bars and vault according to the line-up.

Bama is wearing the matching lipstick red velveteen leo with sheer red fabric on the sleeves, highlighted by silver sequins on the upper shoulders.

Kentucky is dressed in almost a black blue lycra with a lighter blue sheer netting on the arms and upper shoulders, silver sequins as well adorning in a criss-cross pattern across the front.

work extra hard to stick the landings to maximize the scoring on this event as a nice segue into their highest scoring event of the season so far, the vault. Big performances especially from Terin Humphrey, Ashley Miles, Kaitlin White, Dana Filetti and Brittany Magee will be needed to keep the meet under control from start to finish.

For Kentucky they will need a strong all around performance from junior Krystle Cook, who excels on the uneven bars and has good difficulty on the remaining 3 events. If the Wildcats can start off strong on vault and uneven bars, they will put immediate pressure on the Tide. Bama will be resting some of their higher scoring gymnasts like Melanie Banville and Ashley Miles on certain events to prepare for the showdown next week against Georgia and this could provide an opening for the Wildcats if the Tide's depth falters.

ready for the Dawgs next week. She took a break on 3 events last week due to flu symptoms but came through with an incredible vault at Auburn for a 9.975. Gorgeous super high double pike right in front of us from Kaitlin White! Through the roof! Perfect landing as well.

it looks like. She is getting extra work on her vault right now and struggled a bit with the straddle back to handstand on the bars earlier, so may have carried over a little frustration. She just hit a nice Yurchenko 1/1 so hopefully the bats are out of the belfry. The music is way too loud in here and may be affecting our girl's concentration. It needs to be turned down.

Terin Humphrey threw both releases in her warm-up, the Markelov and the Gienger and had several stuck double layouts.

where the University of Alabama Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team will go for their tenth victory of the 2006 season against a confident Wildcats team. Kentucky is undefeated like the Tide but ranked 18th whereas the Tide comes in at #3 in the nation.
