Team Totals: 195.825 Alabama, 194.175 Arkansas [ 9:35 PM, 02/17/06 ]

Bama fiddled with the line-up in a major way on the bars, beam and even the floor to a certain extent tonight.

Bama has the next week off and will return to action in two weeks in Baton Rouge against the LSU Tigers. We expect to see the Tide go with their top six on each event and in the order they are expected to hit the higher scores.

We'll see you back on the web and radio on Friday March 3. Roll Tide Bama fans, the Tide moves to 11-1 with 3 regular meets left before post-season competition. Goodnight from Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

[ top... ]
The Tide finishes with a 195.825, lowest since the second week of [ 9:27 PM, 02/17/06 ]

competition. Arkansas finishes with a 194.150.

[ top... ]
Bama finishes with a 48.95 on the floor. [ 9:23 PM, 02/17/06 ]

Kaitlin White is exhibiting and doing a terrific job, opening with a double pike (huge!) and coming right back with a front layout through to a Rudi (1 1/2 twist). She finishes with a front handspring-whip 1/2 to whip full twist, a definite balance check on the landing (a little bent forward) but she stands it up. She receives a 9.675. The judges hit every gymnast to the maximum that had either a missed element or a stumble or lower landing on any pass.

[ top... ]
Miles is through her double layout and the front-front full to front layout. [ 9:22 PM, 02/17/06 ]

She's enjoying this routine tonight and her dance has extra expression. Beautiful finish of the double pike and the crowd is on their feet. On the replay of her double pike the height she gains is simply incredible.

[ top... ]
Arkansas has a 9.70 from Machnik on the beam as does McQuillin [ 9:20 PM, 02/17/06 ]

and Katie Hardman just fell on a series, so they will throw that routine out of the final score.

Banville receives a 9.800 for her floor routine.

[ top... ]
Banville hits her opening pass of the pike full in and goes a little lighter [ 9:18 PM, 02/17/06 ]

this week for her second pass of the front hs to two front layouts; she finishes with a super double pike. Timing with music is perfect this week to finish.

[ top... ]
Magee throws solid passes but bends at the knees on the final front hs [ 9:17 PM, 02/17/06 ]

to a double full and will be deducted accordingly for a 9.675.

[ top... ]
Barnett received a 9.675 on beam and Machnik is up now for Arkansas. [ 9:13 PM, 02/17/06 ]

Humphrey was deducted again for leaving out a leap series combination and her start series is a 9.80 so she receives a final score of 9.625. She threw the double cat leap but not another leap with this.

[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey stands up the double front Arabian nicely, one step [ 9:12 PM, 02/17/06 ]

back to balance the landing; beautiful second pass this week of the 2 1/2 twist to punch front, straight on to the corner; she finishes with a double pike, beautiful controlled landing and the crowd shows their appreciation with hearty applause.

[ top... ]
O'Neal gets .025 higher for a 9.800. [ 9:11 PM, 02/17/06 ]

Drew of Arkansas received a 9.725 for her beam and Barnett finishes up without significant problems.

[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.775 and that's a little low considering the actual [ 9:07 PM, 02/17/06 ]

performance from start to finish.

Ashley O'Neal opens with a double tuck, nice landing, second pass of a double pike, another strong landing this week. Straddle full to wolf full combination. She finishes with a front-front full to front layout, super landing. Not likely to score higher than Erin, these judges are on a conservative scoring mission here tonight.

[ top... ]
Peacock of Arkansas receives a 9.825 for her beam routine, highlighted [ 9:06 PM, 02/17/06 ]

by a solid double tuck dismount.

[ top... ]
Erin Rightley opens with a beautiful double pike, followed by a [ 9:06 PM, 02/17/06 ]

front-front full to front layout and ends with a much crisper Rudi this week (1 1/2 twist), so this should score well. Excellent presentation.

[ top... ]
Arkansas receives a 48.475 for their floor routines and is at a 145.525 [ 8:57 PM, 02/17/06 ]

to Alabama's 146.875. Time for the Tide to pour it on with some explosive floor routines.

[ top... ]
Peacock finishes floor with a 9.775 for Arkansas after Barnett received [ 8:54 PM, 02/17/06 ]

a 9.750 for her routine.

Melanie Banville is now exhibiting for the Tide on beam. Opens with a split leap full, very nice bhs to layout stepout, full turn, punch front, slight stumble forward, switch leap to straddle, another slight bobble, she dismounts with a double twist, excellent landing! Almost there!

[ top... ]
Magee receives a 9.875 and Bama has a 48.875 total on the [ 8:50 PM, 02/17/06 ]

beam. 146.875 at this point.

Ashley Miles is now exhibiting, hits the round off layout stepout onto the beam beautifully, as well as the switch leap to side straddle jump; she falls on the wolf full, first time ever on that move. Nice gainer bhs to layout stepout; switch leap to Korbut (extra kick out for emphasis); here comes the dismount: double twist, one step, she is a happy camper!

[ top... ]
Humphrey gets a 9.825 and Magee is through her flight series [ 8:49 PM, 02/17/06 ]

(one hand bhs to layout stepout) and the front aerial, full turn leg extended horizontal, switch leap to wolf, punch front looks perfect and she will dismount with a round off to double tuck - one small step back to balance. Great routine! Very fluid, almost never stopped.

[ top... ]
Machnik gets a 9.100 for Arkansas on floor and Barnett is up with [ 8:47 PM, 02/17/06 ]

a double tuck to open, front to front full to front layout, and she will finish with a double pike, solid landing. She's wearing a brace on her left leg.

[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.725 for her beam routine and Terin Humphrey is [ 8:45 PM, 02/17/06 ]

now up for Bama. Opens with the Humphrey mount and a perfect Kotchetkova to bhs to layout stepout; very nice punch front, switch leap to wolf and the Omeliantchik is rushed a bit, but she sticks the gainer full twist dismount. That's the routine we knew she could throw.

[ top... ]
Cortez gets a 9.625 for her floor routine. Machnik is now up. Very nice [ 8:43 PM, 02/17/06 ]

double turn at opening of the routine and a double pike to open, slight scoot back on landing. Hard rock music again for the Razorbacks. She finishes with a double tuck and has to touch down.

[ top... ]
Bayer receives a 9.700 for her beam routine and Erin Rightley is now up [ 8:41 PM, 02/17/06 ]

for the Tide. Opens with a front aerial, wobble, bhs to layout stepout, another wobble, switch leap to straddle and a switch leap to pike jump, very nice. Dismounts with a bhs to gainer full twist, slight split of legs on landing. Bama has the heebie jeebies, perhaps after the harsh judging on the bars earlier?

[ top... ]
Linkin Park music for Samantha Cortez, opening with a double pike [ 8:40 PM, 02/17/06 ]

and she closes with a double tuck, step forward on the landing to balance.

[ top... ]
McQuillin receives a 9.575 for her floor routine, low on the double tuck [ 8:39 PM, 02/17/06 ]

final pass.

[ top... ]
Bayer is through her flight series, slight bend on the second element [ 8:38 PM, 02/17/06 ]

(layout stepout), nice switch leap 1/2 turn and a front aerial, double stag leap, switch leap to side straddle jump, gainer back pike dismount, nice landing. The fierce look works for a second straight week.

[ top... ]
Drew receives a 9.750 for her floor routine. [ 8:36 PM, 02/17/06 ]

O'Neal gets a 9.750 for her beam routine. One down, we need four more solid routines, starting with senior Mari Bayer's.

[ top... ]
O'Neal is through her flight series, nice control and the switch leap to [ 8:35 PM, 02/17/06 ]

straddle straddle combination, punch front (a little low but stuck it). She dismounts with a super difficult double front, one step on the landing. Nice routine.

[ top... ]
Cassie Drew opens with a double pike on floor and comes right [ 8:33 PM, 02/17/06 ]

back with a double tuck, nice landings on both passes.

Martin receives a 9.275 as if she fell. She lost credit for moves that were not completed satisfactorily and her start value came down as a result.

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin will start the Tide off on the beam tonight. [ 8:29 PM, 02/17/06 ]

Cassie throws the switch ring leap and has a major balance break but stays on to the crowd's delight. Full turn is a little tentative but the front aerial and the back handspring to layout step out are right on. Nice switch leap to double stag, another balance check (slight) but she dismounts with a solid bhs to gainer full twist off the side. Whoosh!

[ top... ]
Bama has a 48.800 on the bars and it looks like one of the judges [ 8:24 PM, 02/17/06 ]

followed us from that meet last year in Fayetteville. Overall, the Tide has a .850 lead over Arkansas, who is at 97.050 to the Tide's 98.00.

[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.800 for her bars routine, deducted likely for [ 8:21 PM, 02/17/06 ]

a small form break on her Gienger and not reaching perfect handstands but she stuck the double layout dismount beautifully.

[ top... ]
Filetti receives a 9.775 for her bars routine, stands up the double front [ 8:19 PM, 02/17/06 ]

very well. Encountered a form break on the Gienger (a little too close to the bars?) but finishes the routine and hits her handstands pretty good this week.

Cortez earns a 9.775 for her vault and Drew a 9.800.

[ top... ]
Priess receives a 9.70 for her bars routine. She stood up the difficult [ 8:16 PM, 02/17/06 ]

Arabian double front, slight step on the landing. No problems on the full turn to Tkatchev but she did encounter a little trouble on the transition move to the low bar but did not stop her rhythm at any point in the routine.

[ top... ]
Banville receives a 9.80 and Sarah looks perplexed but is not [ 8:14 PM, 02/17/06 ]

putting in any inquiries about this routine or Miles. Loveless received a 9.65 for her vault and Cortez just threw a nice Yurchenko 1/1, hop back, again piked down a bit as well.

[ top... ]
Miles received a 9.70 for her bars routine. We are literally speechless [ 8:13 PM, 02/17/06 ]

here on press row. One judge gave it a 9.80 and the other a 9.60 for a final score of 9.70. One judge decided to take off maximum for the shoot over to low bar as "not being up to competition level" as a transition move.

Banville throws a solid routine but is not as crisp on her transition move yet nails the double layout chest high. The toe-off straddle release to high bar could have used a little more amplitude as well.

[ top... ]
McQuillin received a 9.6 for her front pike vault and Breanne Guy [ 8:11 PM, 02/17/06 ]

just threw a Y 1/1, bent at waist and a hop but she pulled it around.

[ top... ]
Martin receives a 9.725 and Miles is through her Shaposhnikova, [ 8:10 PM, 02/17/06 ]

the Hindorff and the double layout dismount, beautiful distance a small step on the landing only.

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is through her routine and sticks the double tuck [ 8:08 PM, 02/17/06 ]

dismount. She encountered a little trouble on the transition to low bar and had to counter with a straddle switch underneath before kipping back up. Rest of the routine looked solid (toe on toe off to Tkatchev to pak Salto).

[ top... ]
For Arkansas, Mallory Machnik will start the vault rotation. [ 8:06 PM, 02/17/06 ]

She vaults the Yurchenko 1/1, hop on the landing and a little piked down. She receives a 9.625.

[ top... ]
Hold on, maybe there will be a change in the line-up...we'll keep you [ 8:05 PM, 02/17/06 ]

posted.

[ top... ]
The Tide is at 49.200 on the vault and Arkansas at 48.600, so they are [ 8:01 PM, 02/17/06 ]

within six tenths of the Tide.

On the bars the Tide will showcase Martin, Miles, Banville, Priess, Filetti and Humphrey tonight.

[ top... ]
Peacock receives a 9.80 for her bars routine. Barnett exhibits and [ 8:00 PM, 02/17/06 ]

throws a nice double layout dismount, one hop forward on the landing.

Ashley O'Neal exhibits her vault of a pike 1/2 twist for a 9.70. Nice height and power off the vault, leg split still a problem on entry and her landing required a step to balance.

[ top... ]
Leigh gets a 9.70 on the bars and Peacock finishes up for the Backs [ 7:58 PM, 02/17/06 ]

with a straddle Jaeger and a pak Salto, nails the double layout dismount. Some form problems here and there but a confident routine from the sophomore.
