We hope to see all of you who could not make tonight's meet NEXT
[ 9:35 PM, 03/10/06 ]
week as Bama closes out against the Auburn Tigers. It's Senior Night and we need to send our fantastic class, Miles, Filetti, Pierce, Delahoussaye and Mari-Christine Bayer out in style. Be there Bama!
Roll Tide and goodnight from Coleman Coliseum.
[ top... ]
Melanie Banville is being interviewed on the radio and is one happy
[ 9:27 PM, 03/10/06 ]
gal. She scored a 9.80 on vault, 9.85 on bars, 9.725 on beam and 9.90 on the floor. This is a great confidence boost for her as the Tide heads into their final regular season meet before SECs.
Ashley Miles is being interviewed and says the team plans to focus on helping the freshman prepare for Senior Night more than themselves because they know the seniors are ready. She notes that she is very proud of the freshmen and intends to help them prepare for post-season competition. She also is complimenting the alumni who were inside the concourse with the team, cheering them and high-fiving them as they ran out, thanking them for all they did to prepare the way for what is now the tradition of Alabama gymnastics.
[ top... ]
10,260 is the official crowd and next week is Senior Night, so hopefully
[ 9:26 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Bama will see many more faces here to help us pull off the season attendance average title.

Event Awards:
[ 9:21 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Vault: 1st Miles, 2nd Yim, 3rd Magee
Bars: 1st Tricase, 2nd Miles, Humphrey, Yim, Banville (score was raised by one tenth)
Beam: 1st Yim, 2nd Humphrey, 3rd Foley and Purnell
Floor: 1st Miles, 2nd Banville and Rightley
[ top... ]
Bama scores a 196.25 to the Cardinal's 195.850 (Yim got a 9.85 on beam
[ 9:19 PM, 03/10/06 ]
to close). Bama was way too nervy on most of the events tonight but had more than enough difficulty on floor to pull the meet out.
[ top... ]
Banville gets a 9.90 and Ashley is up to close.
[ 9:15 PM, 03/10/06 ]
She nails the opening pass to the delight of the crowd; follows with a front-front full front layout, nailed it; finishes with a double pike - another terrific landing. The Stanford Cardinal team had come over to watch her routine and were cheering her on, great sportsmanship. Tabitha Yim was really cheering hard and delighting in the routine. Miles receives a 10 from one judge, 9.95 from the second, for a final of 9.975.
[ top... ]
Foley received a 9.80 and Fee a 9.725 for their routines on beam and
[ 9:14 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Yim is looking very strong; she hops back on the double twist dismount so that will be a deduction. Otherwise the routine was crisp and confident.
[ top... ]
Banville opens strongly with a pike full in and returns with a
[ 9:11 PM, 03/10/06 ]
front layout-front full-front layout; nice selling of the routine; on time with the music as well. She is in her element here. She finishes with a double pike, slight jam on the landing but she stands it up and salutes the judges with her final dance move.
[ top... ]
Rightley hits the 9.90 mark like we knew she was capable of.
[ 9:09 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Magee is up next for the Tide. She opens with a super 1/2 in 1/2 out, excellent landing. Comes back with a whip-whip to double pike but steps back out of bounds, going for the stick. She finishes with a beautiful front through to a double full. Nice recovery but she'll be hit on the second pass. She gets a 9.600.
[ top... ]
Foley is through her flight series (bhs, bhs layout stepout)
[ 9:07 PM, 03/10/06 ]
and the switch leap to two straddle jumps; a little bobble on the full turn; double tuck dismount, waves arms a bit and takes a step back.
[ top... ]
Humphrey gets a 9.775, only main deduction came from the low landing
[ 9:06 PM, 03/10/06 ]
of the second element of her second pass as we noted early.
Erin comes back and nails her opening double pike, sky high on the flight. She comes back with a Rudi to layout stepout! In honor of Kristen Sterner who is in the audience tonight. Awesome. She finishes with a strong front-front full to front layout. Yahoo!
[ top... ]
Purnell receives a 9.80 for her beam routine.
[ 9:04 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Ourada falls on her flight series of the bhs, bhs to layout step-out. Front aerial to split jump; finishes strongly with a bhs to double twist.
[ top... ]
O'Neal receives a 9.775 for her routine and Humphrey is up next.
[ 9:02 PM, 03/10/06 ]
She opens with the double front Arabian and just nailed it! Gorgeous! Too much on the second pass but she stands up the 2 1/2 to punch front low landing at the knees on the second element. She finishes with a double pike, nice landing. The crowd is on their feet.
[ top... ]
Elmore receives a 9.675 for her beam routine.
[ 9:01 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Purnell opens with a punch front, bhs, bhs to layout stepout; switch to wolf full; illusion; full turn; switch leap to gainer full twist, nice landing. Very confident.
[ top... ]
Ashley O'Neal is up for the Tide and the fans are restless. They are
[ 8:59 PM, 03/10/06 ]
ready for sharper performances. How bad do you want it Bama? She takes a lunging step forward on the double front but stands it up. Follows with a solid front-front full to front layout. She closes with a double pike and nails it! Way to recover!
[ top... ]
Stanford has a 147.00 to Bama's 146.925
[ 8:54 PM, 03/10/06 ]
The crowd is on their feet cheering the Tide and then settle back down as Lauren Elmore starts on beam. Nice flight series but she bobbles on the tuck full jump and the punch to wolf requires a balance check at the shoulder. Double twist, one step back.
[ top... ]
Louie receives a 9.70 for her floor routine and Stanford will drop the 9.600
[ 8:51 PM, 03/10/06 ]
from Purnell. They have a total on floor of 48.650 to the Tide's 48.825 on beam, so the Tide has made up ground and can pull this one out with at least five strong floor routines.
[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.825 for her beam routine and Cassie a 8.500, so her
[ 8:50 PM, 03/10/06 ]
score will be dropped. Mari is now exhibiting and has a little trouble on her flight series but is solid on the remaining elements.
[ top... ]
Ourada receives a 9.85 for her floor routine and Louie opens with a
[ 8:48 PM, 03/10/06 ]
double pike (mat landing), forward step on the landing; looks like a Rudi for her second pass and she finishes with a front-front full-front tuck, step back to balance.
[ top... ]
Terin is next for Bama and we need her to perform in the clutch like
[ 8:46 PM, 03/10/06 ]
she did last week at LSU. Nice opening triple turn in lunge position and a perfect flight series this week; punch front, switch leap to wolf and the Omeliantchik (a little rushed); dismounts with a round off to 1 1/2, hop on the landing.
[ top... ]
Purnell receives a 9.600 for her floor routine and Ourada opens with
[ 8:45 PM, 03/10/06 ]
tuck full in and comes back with a double twist, beautiful execution. She closes with a double pike, one step back to balance. Very nice routine. This should score well.
[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.775 for her beam routine and Martin is off
[ 8:42 PM, 03/10/06 ]
on her ring leap. So that's two falls for her tonight though she did stand up the 1/2 on front pike off vault during exhibition. She has another two slips on her double stag and the crowd cheers her regardless. We're thankful she's allright, those are some difficult moves she throws and must be precise.
[ top... ]
Foley receives a 9.625.
[ 8:40 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Purnell steps out on her double pike to open (mat landing) and comes back with a front layout to tuck full. She closes with two front layouts.
[ top... ]
Banville hits the 9.725 on beam, the highest since her opening two
[ 8:39 PM, 03/10/06 ]
meets. Erin Rightley is showing some nerves with her front aerial and the layout-stepout element of her flight series but is recovering with a nice switch leap to straddle and a switch leap to pike, nails the dismount again this week. That's the leadership we need from the junior.
[ top... ]
Foley looked like she stepped out of bounds but the flag was not
[ 8:37 PM, 03/10/06 ]
raised (tuck full in first pass) and she under-rotates the second pass landing of the final element (front layout); she finishes with a double pike and does step out this time, low landing as well. Nice difficulty.
[ top... ]
Banville is now up for the Tide and completes the split full leap and
[ 8:35 PM, 03/10/06 ]
the flight series (bhs to layout stepout); has to take two balance checks on her punch front and a little check on the final leap of a three leap series (switch to straddle-straddle combo) but finishes with a double twist, small hop on the landing. Keep it going Bama!
[ top... ]
Fee receives a 9.80 for her floor routine and Pintchouk is up next.
[ 8:33 PM, 03/10/06 ]
She opens with a double pike, step forward on the landing, front tumbling in her second pass and closes with a Rudi to Shushonova.
[ top... ]
O'Neal is now through her flight series and the leap series, super
[ 8:32 PM, 03/10/06 ]
punch front and she finishes with a double front dismount, one step forward on the landing, we will take it! She receives a 9.75 as well.
[ top... ]
Fee opens with a triple twist (mat landing) and then follows up with a
[ 8:30 PM, 03/10/06 ]
double twist. Fee finishes with a stuck double pike, knees slightly bent. Nice!
[ top... ]
Magee is through her flight series but wobbles on the front aerial
[ 8:28 PM, 03/10/06 ]
and also on the full turn leg extended horizontal but she recovers beautifully to hit the leap series, the punch front and nails the landing of her double tuck. One in the can Bama!
[ top... ]
Three minute touch winding down as prep for the beam.
[ 8:26 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Is the Tide a better road team than home? Scores this year would suggest yes.
[ top... ]
Alabama is currently at 98.00 after two events and Stanford is at 98.250.
[ 8:24 PM, 03/10/06 ]
The Tide had a 48.950 on the bars total to Stanford's 49.125 on vault. Those keys to victory are looking ominously on target right now. Can Bama bring it home on the beam and floor?
[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.85 and will finish second to Tricase on bars.
[ 8:20 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Magee just exhibited, had some trouble on the low bar but kept going and receives a 9.75. She was chest down a bit on the tuck full in dismount and took a step as well. The judges credited her for her handstands on top of the bar, the pak Salto and toe-shoot combination being so smooth. Bama has officially protested either Filetti's 9.725 or Banville's score of a 9.75 so we'll see if that score changes. Mari Bayer receives a 9.725 for her exhibition routine. Way to go Mari!
[ top... ]
Pintchouck gets a 9.80 for her vault (Hristakieva).
[ 8:18 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Terin Humphrey finishes up for the Tide with a strong routine after Filetti received a 9.725 for her bars.
[ top... ]
Time for the senior Filetti to come through. Bama must be brave.
[ 8:16 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Martin receves a 9.150 for her bars routine and Filetti takes a jam step forward on her dismount of the double front. Not what you want to do when the judges are looking for that final controlled element.
[ top... ]
Tricase also sticks her vault, chest down though but she will still score
[ 8:15 PM, 03/10/06 ]
well. She receives a 9.825. Distance from vault table was limited as well.
[ top... ]
Priess hits one of her best routines of the year but then takes a huge
[ 8:11 PM, 03/10/06 ]
hop forward on her dismount, the difficult Arabian double front for a 9.675. Cassie Martin falls on her Tkatchev so the Tide is starting to feel the nerves a bit.
Yim hit a 9.90 for her Y 1/1, nicely stuck, slight leg separation on landing and limited distance.
[ top... ]
Melanie Banville misses her transition to the low bar (not in handstand)
[ 8:10 PM, 03/10/06 ]
but this does not disrupt her routine and she absolutely sticks the landing, wow! Gorgeous. They could still take off big for that transition. And they do, a 9.75. That's about one to 1 1/2 deduction.
[ top... ]
Ashley Miles starts the Tide out on bars.
[ 8:07 PM, 03/10/06 ]
She nails her routine and the crowd goes ballistic! Stuck double layout ices the cake. She receives a 9.85.
[ top... ]
There may be a line-up change on bars for the Tide.
[ 8:05 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Sarah is informing the head judge and David goes over to the main table to alert the announcers.
[ top... ]
Three minute touch for bars and vault just about up.
[ 8:01 PM, 03/10/06 ]
[ top... ]
Bama is at 49.150 and Stanford at 49.125. A few more stuck landings
[ 7:59 PM, 03/10/06 ]
on the vault would have helped pad the Tide's lead.
[ top... ]
Magee received a 9.85 for her vault and Miles just nailed her Y 1/1.
[ 7:57 PM, 03/10/06 ]
They remain stingy by giving her a 9.925. Yim gets a 9.85 for her bars and Tricase hits both Tkatchevs but misses two handstands and is bent forward at the waist on her double layout dismount, so a 10 is not in store tonight. She gets a 9.875. The judges are trying to stick to the rule about cast handstands and we are impressed so far.
[ top... ]
Sweets gets a 9.825 and missed three handstands in the process
[ 7:56 PM, 03/10/06 ]
but nails her double front dismount and had a booming Tkatchev.
[ top... ]
Foley received a 9.75 despite throwing two major release moves and
[ 7:55 PM, 03/10/06 ]
sticking her dismount. She missed some handstands however and had a little leg split here and there.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin White receives a 9.825 and Brittany Magee just got major air
[ 7:54 PM, 03/10/06 ]
time on her Y 1/1, small hop on the landing but landed way chest high.
[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.75 (tight!) and Filetti bails on the Hristakieva and
[ 7:50 PM, 03/10/06 ]
receives a 9.1. She did the right thing by just throwing the timer as it looks like her hands were not properly placed on the vaulting table and she may have even missed one of her hands.
Stanford's Ourada gets a 9.725 for her bars routine.
Nice Y 1/1 from White, small hop on landing.
[ top... ]
Kelly Fee is up first for the Cardinal, throwing a straddle Jaeger and a
[ 7:49 PM, 03/10/06 ]
toe-shoot straddle to the high bar, dismounts with an Arabian front, nice landing!
Banville gets a 9.800 for her Y 1/1, nice form and control in the air, one step on the landing.
[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey will open the meet on vault tonight for the Tide.
[ 7:48 PM, 03/10/06 ]
She vaults the Yurchenko 1/1 and has the tiniest hops on the landing, chest down just a bit as well as she goes for that stick.
[ top... ]
Three minute touch is about over.
[ 7:45 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Exhibition vault tonight by Cassie Martin will be the Yurchenko 1/2 on front pike off. Good luck Cassie!
[ top... ]
There were some fireworks in here tonight and Mari had the cutest
[ 7:44 PM, 03/10/06 ]

Fashion Report!
[ 7:39 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Bama is wearing the "muscle" leo as we like to call it, it looks great on all of the gals. Shiny burgundy with a sunburst line of silver sprinkles on the bodice and back. Stanford is in shiny solid black with the back cut out (oooh la la!).

Vault: Judy Grenfell and Judy Bodman
Bars: Robin Ruegg and Betty Stroufe

Floor: Judy Bodman and Robin Ruegg
[ top... ]
Looks like the Tide coaches like what they've been seeing from
[ 7:21 PM, 03/10/06 ]
freshman Brittany Magee on the uneven bars and have put her in the line-up tonight, third position. She warmed up very well and has beautiful toe-point, extension and handstands right on top of the bar. We'll see if this stands after the 3 minute touch.
[ top... ]
Keys to victory tonight:
[ 7:01 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Injury Update: Tabitha Yim is back in the line-up for Stanford on vault, bars and balance beam. Stephanie Gentry is still recovering from an injury and will not be performing tonight except perhaps in an exhibition. For Alabama, the team is healthy overall but Mari Bayer is recovering from illness earlier this week and will only exhibit bars and balance beam.
Keys to victory:
For the Stanford Cardinal, they start on their strongest event, the uneven bars, and can put major pressure on the Tide right from the beginning if they hit their big release skills and stick their dismounts. This will set them up for the remaining three events where they don't have to be perfect but just need to stand up their routines and hope the Tide encounters problems along the way.
For Alabama, they absolutely must stick their landings on vault to get the crowd into it early in hopes this will rattle Stanford, a team that is not used to competing in front of 13,000 plus rowdy fans. Bama also needs to hit their handstands and nail their dismounts on the uneven bars to keep the pressure on Stanford. This is the Tide's meet to win or lose, as they have the superior depth and the home crowd behind them.
[ top... ]
On floor exercise it looks like Bama will be going with last week's
[ 6:57 PM, 03/10/06 ]
line-up but Cassie Martin and Kaitlin White are warming up as well. Erin will be going in the third position this week.
[ top... ]
Tonight is Bama's Alumni Night and the 1996 National Champions are
[ 6:53 PM, 03/10/06 ]
being featured. We saw the 2002 Champs earlier tailgating in the parking lot, including medical student Kristen Sterner, who is now at Michigan State. Should be alot of fun to welcome them back.

Several former national team and world team members are competing
[ 6:45 PM, 03/10/06 ]
here tonight. For Stanford, Tabitha Yim, Natalie Foley, Glyn Sweets, Liz Tricase and Heather Purnell (Canadian Olympic Team with Bama's Melanie Banville). For Bama, Terin Humphrey, Mel,Dana Filetti,Dana Pierce and Ashley Miles.
[ top... ]
On to the balance beam for long warm-ups and the floor for Stanford.
[ 6:39 PM, 03/10/06 ]
Warming up for the Tide on beam: Brittany Magee, Erin Rightley, Terin Humphrey, Melanie Banville, Ashley O'Neal, Cassie Martin, Mari Bayer, and Ashley Miles.
[ top... ]
Alabama is rocking the dismounts on the uneven bars. There is alot
[ 6:36 PM, 03/10/06 ]
more energy in this gym tonight than last week at LSU. Mari Bayer is warming up bars as well and just nailed her pike Jaeger. She has been a little ill this week and will do exhibition only on bars and beam.
[ top... ]
Welcome to Coleman Coliseum for tonight's gymnastics meet
[ 6:29 PM, 03/10/06 ]
against the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Stanford Cardinal.
Alabama has completed long warm-ups on vault and is now on the uneven bars.
Stanford has Tabitha Yim back in the rotation for tonight and she is looking strong on bars and vault so far.
Alabama has Cassie Martin joining the vault line-up tonight on at least an exhibition basis. She looked solid in warm-ups. Brittany Magee is also going on bars tonight and looked much better this week in warm-ups, throwing a pak Salto and a toe-shoot transition to the high bar, a tuck full in dismount.
