Ashley Miles has a huge smile on her face and she received loud [ 10:03 PM, 04/22/06 ]

applause here in the arena when she stuck the first vault, the Yurchenko 1/1, ice cold. Several 10s were thrown but a few 9.95s brought her final score down to a 9.975. Her second vault, the Yurchenko 1 1/2 was almost perfect as well, slightest shift of her shoulder and foot to the left on the landing. Congratulations Ashley!

Vault has Emily Parson of Nebraska, Janet Anson of Iowa State [ 8:48 PM, 04/22/06 ]

and Tiffany Tolnay of Georgia competing for top honors. They will go up against Bama's Ashley Miles, UCLA's Kristina Comforte and three Utah Utes, Ashley Postell, Gritt Hoffmann and Nicolle Ford. April Burkholder of LSU will start the competition off and will have to be perfect on both vaults to have a realistic chance to pull off the victory.

The floor exercise will showcase alot of talent tonight, [ 8:37 PM, 04/22/06 ]

including UCLA senior Kate Richardson, Iowa State junior Janet Anson, LSU senior April Burkholder (four passes), Stanford's Tabitha Yim, Georgia junior Kelsey Ericksen and Bama's own Ashley Miles. Courtney Kupets of Georgia will also contend on floor. It is expected that the winner will need to showcase at least one E tumbling skill since the competition level is fierce with past Olympians and USA National team members vying. The skills get better every year.

Lauren Mirkovich, a 5th year senior for the Michigan Wolverines will [ 8:33 PM, 04/22/06 ]

be on the uneven bars, her best event. She throws a hop full, a Gienger release, a Shaposhnikova and a full twisting double layout dismount. She has an excellent chance to win this title or at least finish in the top three, as she will go next to last in the rotation. Also contending on the uneven bars is Arizona State senior Ashley Kelly, Stanford sophomore Tabitha Yim, Georgia freshman Courtney Kupets, UGA sophomore Katie Heenan, Utah freshman Kristina Baskett and sophomore Ashley Postell. Missing from this year's bars competition is last year's winner, Alabama's own Terin Humphrey, who failed to qualify out of the afternoon session with a 9.825 final score. Also, Georgia's Kelsey Ericksen fell on the bars during her preliminary session and will not advance to the event finals on this, her best event as well.
