What was impressive about this routine
was how tightly her form was throughout, including the execution of
the Gienger release and her pirouetting. She also stuck the double
layout dismount while maintaining beautiful extension and control of
this skill. A deduction likely came on the pirouetting between
the bars not being perfectly vertical. |

Toe-on toe-off to Tkatchev release
to pak Salto combination looked terrific; one step on the double tuck
dismount. Next to Terin, Cassie has the best form and toe-point/leg
extension on bars and should start scoring higher when she sticks the
dismount. |

A little short on two handstands
but she hit all of the main elements, including the Gienger release,
pak Salto and full turn to a double tuck dismount (stuck the landing,
chest high position this week). |

Toe-on toe-off to full turn to Tkatchev
combination looked very good. Just missed vertical on the straddle
back to handstand but stuck the double layout dismount with panache! |

Missed one handstand by more than
10 degrees and had a little split in her legs during the Gienger release
follow-through after re-grasp. Nice distance on the double
front dismount but a small hop on the landing and cowboy form also
received a deduction. |

Beautiful glide to handstand positions
(slightly missed perfect vertical on two), full turn to a high Tkatchev
release; a toe-on toe-off to Arabian double front dismount, small step
in place on landing. A deduction also likely came on the straddle
back to handstand on the low bar, where she was not sufficiently vertical
to receive full credit. |

Yurchenko 1/1 – The
9.95 by one judge certainly caused a lot of chuckles by the knowledgeable
Bama fans in attendance. The video replay from a different angle
did not change our impression that this was indeed worthy of a 10. |

Brittany Magee

Yurchenko 1/1 – step
back on landing. She maintained her straight body-line and toe
point throughout the twisting of this vault even as she achieved excellent
distance, hence the high score. |

Dana Filetti

Yurchenko ½ off – front
layout – one of Dana’s best efforts, marred only by a slight
jam and step in place on the landing. |

Front pike ½ twist – huge
push off the table, impressive height and general control of this vault;
one step on the landing. Entry form (legs slightly split) still
needs a little work to maximize the scoring potential of this vault. |

A split in the legs during entry
and a small check of one foot on the landing. Will we see
the Yurchenko 1½ soon? |

Kaitlin White

Bent elbows on the entry limited
her push off the vault table and required her to pike down this vault,
though the landing was controlled pretty well. |

Floor Exercise Highlights |

All tumbling passes executed with
excellent control: opened with a full in pike out, followed with a
beautiful triple turn and then a second pass of a 2 ½ twist
to punch front; closed with a double pike. Strong presentation
style and combination of dance and difficult tumbling definitely warranted
the 9.95 from one judge. |

Opened with a ½ in ½ out
but landed it chest down and had to take a balance step forward. Rest
of the routine was much more confident, starting with the second pass
of whip-whip-back handspring to double pike [an awesome series] and
finishing with a front handspring to a double full, a very difficult
element to end with. |

Rearranging her tumbling passes appears
to have boosted her confidence over the past two weeks on floor. Opened
once again with a strong 2 ½ twist to punch front, followed
by a double pike and closed with a 2½ twist (D). |

Super opening double pike, front-front
full-front layout for her second pass (very nice control and landing),
finished with a front handspring to Rudi (1 ½ twist), but was
deducted for not pulling the twist all the way around. Dance
and presentation were very nice. Erin showed much more
energy and confidence with this routine compared to her opening Super
Six Challenge effort on floor. |

Her first competitive floor routine
for 2006 was successful. Opened with a double pike (landed with
chest down, one step forward required to check balance), running punch
layout to a Rudi (1 ½ twist) and she finished with a double
twist. Kaitlin was very expressive in her dance and will be increasing
her difficulty soon to improve her chances of making the floor line-up
regularly. |

We suspected Cassie might have problems
on the floor this week after watching her during long and three-minute
warm-ups. She repeatedly struggled with landing the double front
Arabian and this week stayed in bounds but unfortunately sat it down
for the first time in competition. Her second pass was not given sufficient
effort and she also sat down the third element of this tumbling series
(front handspring to front layout to front full twist). Her
final pass was solid (double twist) but she rushed through much of
the dance sequences in between and her usual elegant choreographic
style lost its impact as a result. Here’s to better days. |

Balance Beam Highlights |
Score |
Cassie Martin

She had a terrific recovery on beam
after the unfortunate fall on floor. All elements had very
nice control and polish throughout: switch ring leap; front aerial;
back handspring to layout step-out; switch leap to double stag jump;
back handspring to full twist dismount, stuck the landing. Beautiful
form throughout. |

Hard work in the gym does pay off. Nice
front aerial, a back handspring to layout step-out, switch leap to
straddle combination and a switch leap to a difficult pike jump (!);
back handspring to gainer full twist dismount; No
hesitancy or other balance checks observed in this routine. Congrats! |

Triple turn in lunge position mount;
nice punch front this week and a switch to wolf jump combination; the
Kotchetkova had a slight shoulder shift on landing of the third element
(layout step-out); switch leap to Omeliantchik was rushed a bit (full
split position was not held sufficiently); gainer full twist off the
side had nice form but a small hop back. |

One-handed gainer back handspring
to layout step-out (bent inward at waist on landing of second element);
full turn with leg extended horizontal; switch leap to wolf had very
nice amplitude and flexibility; punch front had excellent form and
amplitude (slight shift of the right shoulder to hold the position
upon landing); double tuck dismount, small hop in place, landed chest
high this week. |

Missed the flight series this week
(second element, layout step-out) but responded with a nice punch front,
switch leap to straddle-straddle combination and the difficult double
front dismount, one step back on the landing. |

Our California gal’s warm-ups
were looking very solid on beam but she encountered some problems about
mid-way in the competition routine: small balance checks on the front
aerial and the back handspring to layout-step-out, pretty good control
on the switch split leap ½ turn; she fell on the second element
of the switch leap to side straddle jump combination and dinged her
leg a bit but got back and dismounted with a gainer back pike. |
