We will say goodbye now from Coleman Coliseum, where Bama continued [ 9:39 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Coach Patterson's unbeaten streak against the Auburn Tigers with a final score of 197.475 to 195.900. Great performances tonight by Dennis, Price and Humphrey, and the rest of the team came through with clutch performances this week when O'Neal struggled on beam and floor. Way to go Kaitlin White on the uneven bars (9.875) to open that event for the Tide in a big way and to sophomore Cassie Martin for her highest bars score (9.925). White also hit a big clutch routine on the floor for the Tide. This is what the coaches were hoping would occur, a team effort to win the big one. Thanks to the Tide fans in attendance tonight who helped us sell it out and let's do it again next week right here for the Alabama vs Kentucky gym meet. Roll Tide!

[ top... ]
Another sellout is confirmed by Tony Giles and the gymnasts are thrilled [ 9:27 PM, 01/26/07 ]

when he announces this right before the final team score. Coach Patterson is being interviewed now and then will be followed by Dennis, Price and Humphrey, the top all arounders who came through big time for the team tonight, leading the way to victory.

[ top... ]
Bama wins it with their highest team total in over two years: [ 9:26 PM, 01/26/07 ]

197.475 to Auburn's 195.900

The Tide finished on floor with a 49.525 and the Tigers had a 49.175 on balance beam in rotation four.

[ top... ]
Bama sweeps the all around as well [ 9:24 PM, 01/26/07 ]

1st Kassi Price
2nd Terin Humphrey
3rd Morgan Dennis

[ top... ]
Vault is won by Bama's Dennis, Price is 2nd and Puckett is 3rd [ 9:22 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Uneven Bars is won by Cassie Martin of UA along with Kassi Price; Terin claims third. All scored 9.90 or higher.

Beam: Dwyer and Rightley of UA are in 3rd, Terin is 2nd and Mills is in 1st

Floor: Bama sweeps with Dennis (1st), Humphrey (2nd) and Price (3rd).

[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis shines with a 9.975. We are biased of course and saw it as [ 9:19 PM, 01/26/07 ]

a "10", as did Tommy Deas. He would have given Terin's floor a 10 too.

Photos are being taken with the teams in their pink outfits.

Dwyer gets a 9.85 for her beam routine. She had a few balance checks on her full turn and a leap series but stuck the double twist dismount.

[ top... ]
Judges give Price a 9.925. [ 9:15 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Morgan Dennis will close out for the Tide. She opens with a super high double layout, nailed it! Swtich leap to split leap full combination; second pass of a front-front full to front layout; nailed it this week; she finishes with a double tuck, another perfect landing. What does it take to get a 10 for this gal??? She just misses with a 9.975 final score. Way to go freshman!

[ top... ]
Kassi Price is through her pike full in and the double pike second pass. [ 9:13 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Really selling the routine with her sassy dance. She will close with another perfect double pike, just like Terin's; crowd loves this one too. Price's second pass was a front pike through to a round off to bhs to double pike.

[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.95! Crowd loves it. [ 9:11 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Puckett has a good beam routine going until the end and almost hits her head on the beam with a too close double tuck dismount. Ouch! She gets a 9.625 and they will throw this one out because Dwyer is up last and is very consistent.

[ top... ]
Terin opens with a double front Arabian, very nice, head held high with pride. [ 9:09 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Second pass of 2 1/2 to punch front, right on; nice boogeying; she finishes with a double pike, nailed a'la Romanian style once again! Crowd wants a 10!

[ top... ]
Voss receives a 9.825 for her beam routine. [ 9:07 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Mills is now up for Auburn. bhs to bhs to layout stepout; switch leap to straddle; hitch kick to front aerial, shoulder break but she stays on; tick tock to bhs to gainer full off the side of the beam, very unique.

[ top... ]
White scores a 9.825 for her floor routine and Erin Rightley [ 9:05 PM, 01/26/07 ]

is through her opening double pike and the Rudi to layout stepout, excellent timing on that second pass. She closes with a front to front full to front tuck, perfect landing! Keep it going Tide!

[ top... ]
Gies gets a 9.80 and Voss is through her punch front mount, flight series [ 9:04 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and a front aerial; she dismounts with a double twist but legs were not good in the air at all, very loose. Somehow she sticks the landing though.

[ top... ]
O'Neal gets a 9.350 [ 9:01 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and Gies hurts her ankle on the dismount and has to be helped off after completing her beam set.

Kaitlin White is up next for the Tide. She opens with a double pike, perfect! Let's go "Go to Gymnast!" She comes back with a front punch layout to an immediate Rudi, slight step forward with chest down on the landing but she stands it up; she finishes with a round off whip 1/2 to front full, nicely executed. Good recovery routine to settle the team down.

[ top... ]
O'Neal opens with a double tuck, just steps over the line and the judge on [ 8:58 PM, 01/26/07 ]

the left raises hand after initial hesitation. O'Neal completes her second pass but touches down on the double pike (!) How uncharacteristic of this gymnast. Maybe the fatigue factor is hitting both teams tonight.

[ top... ]
Somero is through her flight series, balance check at the shoulder for her [ 8:55 PM, 01/26/07 ]

last element; switch leap to straddle, double twist dismount, chest down a bit but she sticks it well.

[ top... ]
Bama scores 49.10 on the beam and Auburn a 48.60 on the floor. [ 8:53 PM, 01/26/07 ]

The Tide has a running total of 147.950 to Auburn's 146.725

[ top... ]
Dwyer received a 9.875 for her floor. [ 8:52 PM, 01/26/07 ]

[ top... ]
Puckett received a 9.600 but apparently the judge right in front of her did [ 8:49 PM, 01/26/07 ]

not see her hand touching down on the out of bounds mat. They did consult and apparently decided she would lose credit for the pass and for going out of bounds but did not consider this a touchdown.

[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.875 for her beam routine. [ 8:47 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Dwyer is up on floor as the final competitor for the Tigers. She opens with a double pike on the sting mat. Wolf full to split full leap combination; front-front full to front layout; she finishes with a 2 1/2 twist to punch front (tuck) off center and just keeps it in bounds.

[ top... ]
Price receives a 9.80 for her beam routine. [ 8:45 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Terin is through her flight series and the punch front with no trouble; 1/4 turn to split leap position looks dandy; she dismounts with a super 1 1/2 twist, slight hop only. Crowd roars with approval and relief. Six for six this week. We can throw out the 9.625 score.

[ top... ]
Gies received a 9.375 for her floor routine and Mills' score is not up yet. [ 8:43 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Puckett is opening with a tuck through to a round off to bhs to double tuck, nice height and landing. Ozzie Osborne music. She falls on her second pass and steps out of bounds in the process (front tumbling combination that included a whip 1/2 that did not get all the way around before the final two elements could be executed); she finishes though solidly with a double pike.

[ top... ]
Dennis receives a 9.75 for her beam routine. [ 8:41 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Kassi Price is now on the beam, wolf front aerial, little balance stumble on that; switch leap to split leap 1/4 turn; bhs to layout step-out; full turn, wolf jump, side Somi, dismounts with a double pike, one step back. Wheeeee!

[ top... ]
AJ Mills is up on floor for the Tigers. She throws a double pike, hop back [ 8:39 PM, 01/26/07 ]

on the landing. Front-front full to front layout. Nice presentation to music from Drumline. She finishes with a double tuck, stumble forward but just avoids touching down. Auburn looks a little fatigued tonight on the floor.

[ top... ]
O'Neal receives a 9.625 for her routine. [ 8:37 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Morgan Dennis is now up and through her front aerial. She will throw a bhs to layout stepout to layout stepout. She hangs on with a little shoulder break; switch leap to tuck full jump, full turn; another switch leap to scissor leap; she dismounts with a round off to double tuck. Whoosh! Four in the can.

[ top... ]
Seiffert gets hit hard by the judges with a 9.700 for her floor routine. [ 8:35 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Kayla Gies opens with a Rudi to layout step-out, then a 2 1/2 twist that she lunges forward on (maybe was going to throw a tuck out of this?) and misses her last pass and will only throw a front layout into a front handspring, so this will receive a big deduction as well for start value and execution errors.

[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.850 for her beam. [ 8:33 PM, 01/26/07 ]

O'Neal is now up and throws the bhs to layout step-out, stays on but bends to the right to hold her balance. Switch leap to straddle-straddle combination looks good, as does the punch front. She dismounts with the most difficult double front, major bounding forward and almost touches down, so that will be a major deduction. Hopefully the Tide will be able to drop this routine.

[ top... ]
Nelms receives a 9.775 and Seiffert opens with a double pike, chest down [ 8:32 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and a step forward, followed by a double tuck, same problem, but she stands it up. Rocking music from Def Leppard and she finishes with a front front full to front layout.

[ top... ]
Magee receives a 9.825 and Erin is through her front aerial (slight shoulder [ 8:30 PM, 01/26/07 ]

shift to the right) and follows with a beautiful bhs to layout stepout. Switch leap-switch leap to straddle, looking good; full turn; straddle to pike jump; bhs to gainer full twist off the side, nails it! Way to come through in front of the home crowd after a tough road meet last week on this event against the Gators. Two in the can, four to go.

[ top... ]
Freshman Carmen Nelms opens with a solid double pike and then a [ 8:29 PM, 01/26/07 ]

front layout to front layout to front full, and closes with a double tuck, hop forward on the landing, otherwise a clean routine.

[ top... ]
Magee is up first for the Tide on the beam. [ 8:26 PM, 01/26/07 ]

She is through her flight series, one step back and follows with a front aerial, solid! Switch leap to pike jump, punch front (perfect!), and she dismounts with a round off to 1 1/2 twist, bunny hop forward. Let's stick those landings Bama!

[ top... ]
Bama has a 49.475 on the uneven bars and Auburn a 49.150 on the vault. [ 8:21 PM, 01/26/07 ]

The Tide has a running total of 98.850 to Auburn's 98.125.

[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey had a perfect 10 going on that routine until the bunny hop [ 8:20 PM, 01/26/07 ]

back on the double layout dismount. Argh! She receives a 9.90. Great bars from the Tide, now lets push forward on the balance beam.

Dwyer gets a 9.85 for her Hristakieva vault, one step forward on the landing, deducted also for limited distance from the table.

[ top... ]
Price gets rewarded for the mega difficulty with a 9.925. [ 8:18 PM, 01/26/07 ]

[ top... ]
Dennis gets a 9.85 for her bars routine (ahem) [ 8:17 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and Kassi Price just hit all her difficult moves, including toe on toe off to 1/2 turn to Hindorff and the double layout, one step on the landing. Boy was she thrilled!

[ top... ]
Gies got a 9.775 for her vault and Puckett a 9.90 for hers. [ 8:16 PM, 01/26/07 ]

[ top... ]
Martin receives a 9.925 for her bars score. Yes, the scoring is a little loose [ 8:14 PM, 01/26/07 ]

on this event tonight but Cassie does have gorgeous form on this apparatus. Morgan Dennis just hit her routine, including a super pike Jaeger and a stuck double front dismount! Whoosh!

[ top... ]
AJ Mills jams her Y 1/1 vault and receives a 9.825. Good distance. [ 8:13 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Lebegern receives a 9.75 for her bars routine. Cassie Martin completes her bars routine with a solid toe on toe off to Tkatchev to pak Salto and sticks the double tuck dismount.

[ top... ]
White hits the 9.875! Her highest score of her career. [ 8:12 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Ricki Lebegern encounters some trouble again on the pirouetting but completes the routine and the pike Jaeger and sticks her full in dismount. Great recovery but there will be deductions.

[ top... ]
Voss receives a 9.80 for her vault and Somero throws a Y 1/1, chest way [ 8:10 PM, 01/26/07 ]

down and a step to the side for a 9.725.

[ top... ]
Kaitlin White is THE go to gymnast! What a great routine! [ 8:09 PM, 01/26/07 ]

She hit the Gienger release with legs together and stuck the double tuck dismount chest high out of a full turn. Ecstatic is her response as she salutes the judges!

[ top... ]
First up on vault for the Tigers is freshman Krissy Voss. [ 8:07 PM, 01/26/07 ]

She throws a Yurchenko 1/1, chest down a bit, one step to the right.

[ top... ]
Alabama has a 49.375 on the vault and Auburn has a 48.975 on the uneven [ 8:03 PM, 01/26/07 ]

bars, so they accomplished their goal on their most difficult event by going 6 for 6 and they were allowed to drop one of the lower scores of 9.70 from the freshman Voss. Sophomore Mills had trouble on her transition move to the low bar and also was sluggish on the dismount (double layout). However, she threw two major release moves, a pike Jaeger and a Markelov. She received a 9.70 and this was counted in the total.

[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis just nailed her vault as well with better distance (Y 1/1) [ 7:59 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and gets the 9.95. Dwyer gets a 9.875 for a Tkatchev release and a double layout, hop back on the landing.

[ top... ]
Puckett gets a 9.825 for her bars routine and Price gets the big score on [ 7:57 PM, 01/26/07 ]

vault, a 9.925!

[ top... ]
Terin gets a 9.825 for her vault. Gies a 9.775 for her bars routine. [ 7:55 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Kassi Price is up on the vault. She nails it! Distance from vault table could have been better but we will take it!

[ top... ]
Lebegern gets a 9.85 for a tiny step on the Y 1/1! [ 7:55 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Terin follows with a super Omeliantchik and bunny hops it a bit forward on the landing. Form was much better this week mid-air.

[ top... ]
Magee received a 9.825 and O'Neal a 9.80 for her front pike 1/2 (step back) [ 7:52 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and Voss gets through her routine on bars as well for a 9.700.

[ top... ]
Lenkiewicz of Auburn completes her bars routine that included a pike Jaeger [ 7:50 PM, 01/26/07 ]

and a double front. The routine had some problems with rhythm and the release being caught close to the bar, dismount a little labored with a knee bend and step back.

[ top... ]
Brittany Magee leads off the vault for the Tide this week [ 7:48 PM, 01/26/07 ]

with a Yurchenko 1/1 and just nails it! Float like a butterfly right into place! Gorgeous.

[ top... ]
Looks like Kassi Price will be vaulting the Yurchenko 1/1 tonight instead of [ 7:46 PM, 01/26/07 ]

the Y 1.5 and Morgan Dennis will follow in the clean-up position given her higher score last week. Nice Y 1/1 from Kaitlin White just then.

[ top... ]
Fashion Report! [ 7:44 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Both teams are decked out in pink, Auburn in a lighter shiny pink and white number with sequins on the front and back. Alabama is equally stylish in solid HOT pink with three silver streaking lines down the front bodice etched in sequins and a smaller pattern of sequins on the back. Both teams look great!

[ top... ]
We are in the 3 minute touch warm-up on the bars and vault. [ 7:40 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Time for a fashion report trumpet blare please!

Bama!

[ top... ]
The alumni have just been introduced to the crowd and they are loving 'em! [ 7:27 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Hugs for the gals from David Patterson as well. We're ready to roll Tide fans!

[ top... ]
Keys to victory: [ 7:21 PM, 01/26/07 ]

For the Auburn Tigers, they know they must complete at least five of six routines on the uneven bars without a miscue to try and put immediate pressure on the Tide before the Tigers rotate to their stronger events, vault, floor and the balance beam. If they can successfully get through this first rotation then the Tigers feel confident they can hold their own against the Tide and pull off the upset.

For the Tide, the coaches will look for strong, explosive vaults to get the scoring up high from the opening rotation and thereby get the sold out crowd immediately into the meet. Once they move to bars, there will be no room for error and the Tide will have to hit 5 of 6 routines to keep the pressure firmly on the Tigers. This will allow the Tide to relax a bit as they move to the balance beam, where they will need to perform confidently like they did two weeks ago here in front of the home crowd. A final electric performance on the floor exercise should seal the deal, but only if the team takes care of business on the bars and beam. Roll Tide!

[ top... ]
Judges for tonight are: Claire Pore, Stephanie Kuhlmann, Jan Eyman, and [ 7:19 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Mary Lou Dillard.

[ top... ]
This is alumni night and we just learned that Alexa Martinez Givan, former [ 7:14 PM, 01/26/07 ]

[ top... ]
The teams are preparing to depart the coliseum to get ready and [ 7:08 PM, 01/26/07 ]

the crowd is already starting to get into it with the help of ESPN2.

[ top... ]
We are winding down now and getting ready for a great competition! [ 7:05 PM, 01/26/07 ]

[ top... ]
Right now the coaches have Morgan Dennis, Terin Humphrey and Kassi Price [ 7:04 PM, 01/26/07 ]

slated for the all around. Kassi was struggling a bit on the bars and balance beam but seems to warm up tight and then come through in the competition. At least this is what we have seen in the past two weeks.

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is sporting a divine new hairstyle, parted on the side. She [ 7:01 PM, 01/26/07 ]

looks very glamorous. Working a 2 1/2 on the floor, pretty good!

[ top... ]
Ashley O tumbled a crisp front to front full to front layout just then on [ 6:58 PM, 01/26/07 ]

the floor. Super double layout from Morgan Dennis as well and a double pike from Ricki Lebegern.

[ top... ]
Bama finishes up on the beam and prepares to move to the floor for the [ 6:47 PM, 01/26/07 ]

final 15 minute warm-up. Kaitlin, Erin, Terin, Ricki, Cassie, Ashley O, Morgan and Kassi will try to bring home the victory tonight on this final event. Bama was #1 on floor for the second straight week. Kassi Price is #1 this week in the all around.

[ top... ]
Double pikes, double tucks mostly from the Tigers on floor but Julia Dwyer [ 6:43 PM, 01/26/07 ]

also tumbles a 2 1/2 to punch front (tuck) as her second pass that follows the opening pass of a double pike.

[ top... ]
Ricki just did a warm-up on beam so the preliminary line-up may be [ 6:42 PM, 01/26/07 ]

changed. Nice rep on the bars just then from Courtney Priess. Beautiful full turn to Tkatchev.

[ top... ]
Bart and Kathy are here from ESPN2 to cover the meet. [ 6:40 PM, 01/26/07 ]

Lots of pink shirts in the stands for the lucky ticket holders as they arrive. We've been told the meet is sold out.

[ top... ]
Casey Overton exhibited last week against Florida and did a terrific job. [ 6:35 PM, 01/26/07 ]

She will likely be exhibiting tonight as well. Ricki Lebegern will take a break from the beam tonight and Morgan Dennis will be inserted for her. Rightley will be moved to the second position in the line-up on beam.

[ top... ]
Awesome! says Coach Patterson just then to Brittany Magee as she completes [ 6:32 PM, 01/26/07 ]

her full routine rep successfully. Another stuck dismount (double front) on bars for the Tide from Morgan Dennis.

[ top... ]
Courtney Priess will be participating in the 15 minute warm-up on the [ 6:30 PM, 01/26/07 ]

bars. She did not travel with the team last week to Florida due to recurring back pain but looks in high spirits tonight. Brittany Magee is also warming up.

[ top... ]
Roll Tide! From Coleman Coliseum we are watching long warm-ups for the [ 6:28 PM, 01/26/07 ]

upcoming Alabama gymnastics meet against the Auburn Tigers. Bama has completed long warm-ups on the vault and the team is now on the uneven bars.
