We'll say goodnight from Coleman Coliseum for now but hope to see you [ 9:33 PM, 02/02/07 ]

all here next week on the radio and website as we head to Athens on Saturday, February 10th for a 4 pm EST meeting against Georgia. Roll Tide Bama - the team is now 2-1 in the SEC, 3-1 for the season.

[ top... ]
Casey Overton is being interviewed by the radio crew after her terrific [ 9:29 PM, 02/02/07 ]

performance tonight under pressure. She noted that she was inserted for Erin on floor at the last minute when her foot was giving her some pain and her score was a reflection of starting from just a 9.90 difficulty level because her leap series was still not up to top code and she would need a little more difficulty on the second pass (threw a double twist and closed with a ro-whip 1/2 to front full after opening with a double pike). Casey was nevertheless thrilled to be out there and is appreciative of the crowd's response.

Terin Humphrey was electric on the floor tonight and added another E pass, the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 that we have not seen her do so confidently since her freshman year. This puts her in great shape for floor next week against the Bulldogs. The Tide will need that routine for sure. Nice exhibition from Cassie Martin on floor as well and Ricki Lebegern had a terrific exhibition on the beam for a 9.825. So the coaches have more choices to consider as they prepare for the hot meet next week against Georgia in Athens.

[ top... ]
Bama was able to build their depth on vault, beam and floor tonight [ 9:25 PM, 02/02/07 ]

by inserting freshman Casey Overton, who competed two of her three routines (exhibit on vault) and the team ended up counting one of the two routines. She scored a 9.75 on beam (following a missed routine by senior Erin Rightley) and a 9.65 on the floor. Her confidence on beam was very impressive.

Kaitlin White was able to hit her routines tonight and matched her score from last week on floor but was deducted about 1/10th on the bars for a little trouble on the final pirouette (form deduction); she scored a 9.775 on bars.

Final Team Scores: [ 9:24 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Alabama: 196.375
Kentucky: 193.625

[ top... ]
All Around [ 9:23 PM, 02/02/07 ]

3rd Rymer of Kentucky
2nd Dennis of Alabama
1st Humphrey of Alabama

[ top... ]
Awards [ 9:21 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Vault is won by Price and Dennis of UA, Magee is in third
Bars won by Price and Cook of Kentucky, Humphrey in third
Beam is won by Price and Humphrey, Magee in third
Floor is swept by Lebegern (3rd), Humphrey (2nd) and Dennis (1st)

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is exhibiting on floor, opening with a 2 1/2 twist, followed up [ 9:16 PM, 02/02/07 ]

by a double twist and she closes with a front-front layout to a front full, stands it up, slightly jammed landing. Great to see her back out there on floor. Dance was elegant as usual. Final score is low, a 9.55, possibly due to limited difficulty and some missed elements we did not detect.

[ top... ]
Morgan receives a 9.95 and the team total on floor is a 49.400 so the Tide [ 9:15 PM, 02/02/07 ]

will finish with a 196.375. Great score considering they had to count a fall on the beam this week and the coaches rested Kassi Price on floor, usually a cinch for a huge score. Looks like Terin Humphrey wins the all around with a 39.425.

[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis is ready to ice the cake. [ 9:13 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Opens with a super double layout; second pass of a front-front full to front layout, another nice controlled landing and height mid-air on this combination; finishes with a double tuck - perfect landing! Crowd loves it! Standing ovation from several fans on the bottom level.

[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey opens up with a super high double front Arabian; throws [ 9:10 PM, 02/02/07 ]

the very difficult second pass of a 1 1/2 through to a 2 1/2 - right on! now for some boogeying and she will close with a double pike - another super landing, well controlled in the air. Should score very well - and it does with a 9.925.

[ top... ]
Green mounted the beam with a punch front but bent at the waist to stay on [ 9:08 PM, 02/02/07 ]

and took about 3 seconds to control it; scores only a 9.2

[ top... ]
Carriero receives a 9.70 for her beam and Lebegern hits the 9.90 mark! [ 9:08 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
White receives a 9.825 for her floor routine. [ 9:06 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Lebegern is up next and the difficulty will increase with the final three routines. She opens with a triple twist - beautiful landing and control on that E element; she follows up with a double pike, another super landing; finishes with a super front-front full to front pike, perfect landing this week. Should score well.

[ top... ]
Rymer received a 9.800 for her beam routine. Carriero is now up for the [ 9:03 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Wildcats and so far staying on, showing some impressive skills, including a switch leap to wolf to ring leap!

[ top... ]
Overton receives a 9.65 from both judges and either her start value was [ 9:03 PM, 02/02/07 ]

not at a 10 or she left out a required element, perhaps a leap series. Kaitlin White is up next. Super double pike to open, nailed it! Follows with a punch front layout to a Rudi, nailed it this week chest high! She finishes with a round off to whip 1/2 to front full twist, nice landing.

[ top... ]
Ferguson received a 8.300 for her beam routine. Rymer is staying on so far [ 9:02 PM, 02/02/07 ]

in the third position.

[ top... ]
O'Neal receives a 9.800 [ 9:00 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Overton opens with a beautiful double pike, super height in the air and great form. Second pass of a double twist and she will finish with a round off to a whip 1/2 to a front full, one step forward to balance the landing. Great debut from this gymnast tonight on beam and floor!

[ top... ]
Another fall on beam for Kentucky, Ferguson this time (second element of [ 8:58 PM, 02/02/07 ]

her flight series). First routine scored a 9.050 for the Wildcats. Another fall just then from Ferguson on the tuck full jump out of a leap; nice difficulty, dismounts with a 1 1/2, hop forward. She walks away from the beam to collect her thoughts, not pleased obviously with her performance.

[ top... ]
Redemption time for Ashley O'Neal. She opens with a solid front through [ 8:56 PM, 02/02/07 ]

to a double tuck, no problems with the boundaries this week. Selling it well so far; front-front full to front layout, nice position in the air; straddle full to wolf full combination; she finishes with a double pike - slight step forward on the landing but she stands it up well this week. Good start O!

[ top... ]
Kentucky's first gymnast up falls on her mount (Burgin) but is working well [ 8:55 PM, 02/02/07 ]

through the rest of her routine; dismounts with a bhs to gainer full twist off the side of the beam.

[ top... ]
Bama moves to the floor for the final rotation, Kentucky to the balance beam. [ 8:47 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Ricki Lebegern scored a 9.825 for her exhibition beam routine. Should we look for her to re-enter the line-up next week against UGA?

[ top... ]
Ferguson gets a 9.825 for her floor routine and Hite a 9.875. [ 8:46 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Team total on floor for the Wildcats: 48.875 and a running total of 146.125

[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.875 for her beam as well. [ 8:43 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Bama has a team total on beam of 48.600. 146.975 running score.

Rick Lebegern is exhibiting on the beam - nice bhs to layout stepout; switch leap to straddle-straddle combination; side straddle jump, full turn, side Somi, very nice; double twist dismount, slight foot shift on the landing only.

[ top... ]
Kassi Price receives a 9.875 for her beam routine. [ 8:41 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Terin is through her flight series; very solid punch front; switch leap to wolf; 1/4 turn to split handstand; she will finish with round of to bhs to double tuck dismount - one step back on the landing. Well done! Good recovery by the last two gymnasts. Tide will still have to count Erin's fall (9.275).

[ top... ]
Cook receives a 9.700, possibly due to weak second pass and some limited [ 8:39 PM, 02/02/07 ]

leap elements. We liked her routine. Ferguson opens with a pike full in, very nice form and position in the air on the landing; second pass is round off whip 1/2 to front layout; finishes with a double tuck, nice landing. Good routine overall.

[ top... ]
Dennis receives a 9.175 for her beam routine. Kassi Price is up next. [ 8:37 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Front aerial wolf position to scissor jump, rock solid; switch leap to side split jump; bhs to layout stepout, beautiful; full turn; wolf jump; side Somi, very nice; double pike dismount, small step on the landing. What a trooper!!!!

[ top... ]
Rymer gets a 9.800 for her floor routine. [ 8:36 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Cook is through her opening double tuck pass; two front layouts on her second pass, split legs; closes with a double pike, nice landing.

[ top... ]
Overton receives a 9.75 for her first competitive beam routine at Alabama. [ 8:33 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Dennis is up after her; front aerial, shoulder break; falls on the third element of the bhs to layout layout; Bama needs to get tough! Switch leap to scissor jump looks good, nice double tuck dismount, smallest hop in place. Bama needs to stop the bleeding with some leadership immediately!

[ top... ]
Rightley receives a 9.275 for her beam set and a freshman is in the fire to [ 8:31 PM, 02/02/07 ]

begin her college competitive experience. So far Casey Overton is looking solid, front aerial, bhs to layout step-out, side straddle jump, ring leap, switch leap to sheep jump to scissor jump; nails the dismount of a bhs to gainer full twist off the side. Fantastic!

[ top... ]
Armour is up next for the Wildcats on floor [ 8:29 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Opens with a double pike, nice landing; double tuck to finish, chest landed down and forward with one step but she stands it up. She receives a 9.625.

[ top... ]
Rightley is up next for the Tide; fron aerial looks good; [ 8:27 PM, 02/02/07 ]

bhs to layout stepout - she falls on the second element; she did not look good in warm-ups - switch leap-switch leap to straddle jump; straddle jump to pike jump looks good; bhs to gainer full twist, stuck the landing.

[ top... ]
Brittany Magee receives a 9.825 on the beam. Let's keep it going Bama! [ 8:27 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Green finishes on floor with a front-front full to front pike, just stays in bounds.

[ top... ]
Green of Kentucky opens with a 2 1/2 twist and a double tuck on the second [ 8:25 PM, 02/02/07 ]

pass on floor.

[ top... ]
Bama is ready on beam, Kentucky on floor for the third rotation. [ 8:19 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Brittany Magee is up first in the lead-off position for the Tide. Perfect bhs to layout stepout (one arm); front aerial, little balance check on the full turn but covers it well with dance move; switch leap to pike jump, right on; front punch, awesome; dismounts with a 1 1/2 twist dismount, one step forward.

[ top... ]
Humphrey receives a 9.875 for her bars routine and the Tide gets a 49.175 [ 8:17 PM, 02/02/07 ]

team score. Running score of 98.375 to Kentucky's 97.250 after two rotations.

[ top... ]
Price gets a 9.90 for her very difficult bars routine, solid double layout [ 8:15 PM, 02/02/07 ]

dismount, small hop. Terin follows suit with a terrific routine as well, hop full to Gienger, hop on the double layout will cost her the perfect score.

[ top... ]
Cook gets a 9.75 for her vault, Rymer a 9.825 and Burgin throws the final [ 8:14 PM, 02/02/07 ]

vault, a Hristakieva, pressured landing forward with a hop.

[ top... ]
Martin gets a 9.800 for her bars routine. Dennis as well. Morgan was [ 8:12 PM, 02/02/07 ]

deducted a bit for missing perfect vertical on the handstands.

[ top... ]
Green gets a 9.725 for her vault, Cullum a 9.475 (tucked where she needed [ 8:11 PM, 02/02/07 ]

to layout out).

[ top... ]
Lebegern gets a 9.80 for her bars routine. [ 8:10 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Martin hits her routine, one step forward on the double tuck dismount.

[ top... ]
Ferguson's vault was a 9.625 [ 8:08 PM, 02/02/07 ]

White only gets a 9.775 for her bars. We saw that as at least a 9.825.

Lebegern hits her bars routine without a mishap this week and nails the full in dismount! Yeah!

[ top... ]
Kaitlin White hits her routine for the second week in a row. The last giant [ 8:07 PM, 02/02/07 ]

full turn had a little ankle separation but she did not stop and nailed the dismount again, chest high (double tuck). Crowd is there for her.

[ top... ]
Ferguson of Kentucky starts off the vault with a Y 1/1, chest way down [ 8:06 PM, 02/02/07 ]

and a step to the left (going for the stick).

[ top... ]
Ready on the bars and vault, second rotation. [ 8:04 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Bama leads it 49.200 to 48.500. Kentucky gets a little more time on the vault.

[ top... ]
Judges on the uneven bars: Brock White and Patty Vitale [ 8:01 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
Bama has a team score on vault of 49.200 and Kentucky is at 48.500 [ 8:00 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
Overton of Alabama receives a 9.775 for her Hristakieva vault exhibition. [ 7:58 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Kentucky will have to count the two lower scores of a 9.625 and a 9.55 but they completed five of six routines and accomplished goal one to keep themselves in this meet. Pressure is on!

[ top... ]
Green of Kentucky receives a 9.55 for her bars routine. Missed several [ 7:58 PM, 02/02/07 ]

positions (handstands) but had some nice release move and transition elements.

[ top... ]
Cook receives a 9.90 for her bars routine (stuck the double layout) [ 7:57 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Nice exhibition from Casey Overton on the vault, one hop forward on the landing. Hristakieva.

[ top... ]
Burgin receives a 9.75 for her bars routine, Cook gets through hers just fine. [ 7:55 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Lebegern receives a 9.825 for her vault, Dennis just hops back on her Y 1/1 but had the best distance and height of all once again this week. She receives a 9.875

[ top... ]
Price receives a conservative 9.875. Yeesh. [ 7:54 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Lebegern has one step back on her Y 1/1, nice position in the air.

[ top... ]
Burgin is up next and gets the healy to pike Jaeger release and a double [ 7:53 PM, 02/02/07 ]

front dismount, one step on the landing. Solid!

[ top... ]
Rymer touches down on her double layout dismount off bars. 9.200 score [ 7:52 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Humphrey gets hit hard on her vault, final score of a 9.75. Argh! But Kassi Price comes right behind her and nails her Y 1/1! The crowd explodes.

[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey big bunny hop on the Omliantchik [ 7:50 PM, 02/02/07 ]

but it looked great in the air.

Reimann of KY gets a 9.625 for her bars routine.

[ top... ]
Hilary Ferguson of Kentucky gets a 9.675 for her bars routine. [ 7:49 PM, 02/02/07 ]

White gets a 9.775 for her vault. That's pretty stingy.

[ top... ]
Kaitlin White is next with a Y 1/1 of her own. [ 7:48 PM, 02/02/07 ]

She keeps good position in the air, one step back on the landing but well-controlled otherwise. A little better distance than Brittany achieved.

[ top... ]
Brittany Magee opens with a Y 1/1 and this one is definitely better than [ 7:47 PM, 02/02/07 ]

last week, another stuck landing, but better position out of it. She receives a 9.85.

[ top... ]
Judges on vault: Sheryl Dundas and Lindda Morton [ 7:47 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
Overton was a little out of control on the forward landing of the Hristakieva [ 7:46 PM, 02/02/07 ]

vault just then. David chats with her on adjusting her twist in the air.

[ top... ]
We are ready to go! The band is loud and we have a vocal crowd as well! [ 7:45 PM, 02/02/07 ]

The kiss cam always gets the fans in high spirits right before the opening event.

[ top... ]
Fashion Report! [ 7:41 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Kentucky is wearing cobalt blue and black, with sheer black netting on the upper shoulders and arms, highlighted with silver sequins on the upper bodice area. Very elegant.

Alabama is wearing a deep crimson leo with white waves that has sequins edging the waves; this is the leo that they wore at Florida two weeks ago. The sequins also crisscross at the neckline and form a circle opening. Both teams look great.

[ top... ]
Three minute touch is now underway. [ 7:38 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
Keys to victory: [ 7:13 PM, 02/02/07 ]

For Kentucky, they need to establish some confidence early by making sure they stay on the uneven bars and don't have to count a fall. They struggled in long warm-ups on this apparatus but they do have some strong skills that could score well if they are able to build some momentum with the first two to three gymnasts up. Then they move to one of their traditionally stronger events, vault, where they shape up well and could start to put pressure in turn on the Tide. It will be critical for them to nail at least five routines on floor to set them up for the always tough final beam set on the road. Kentucky has the skills, they must find the consistency, or it will be an uphill battle for them tonight against the Tide.

For Alabama, the coaches are looking for stuck landings on vault and bars to quickly separate Bama from the Wildcats in the eyes of the judges with the first two events. Polish and poise on the balance beam will be the next order of business before moving to the final rotation on floor, where the Tide ranks #1 for the third week in a row. Bama needs good teamwork tonight, just like they showed last week against Auburn - if they deliver, the score is theirs to name.

[ top... ]
Bama has a final chat with the coaches before exiting the arena. [ 7:10 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Crowd is filing in nicely despite a very cold day.

[ top... ]
Casey is going through her floor routine. Less than 5 minutes to go. [ 7:06 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Cassie Martin follows with her run through on floor, music from The Godfather (Esteban!)

[ top... ]
Terin is practicing the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 but likely will not throw it tonight. [ 7:02 PM, 02/02/07 ]

If she throws it next week against UGA, look out.

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is warming up on floor as she did on beam and throws a [ 7:00 PM, 02/02/07 ]

double twist and a 2 1/2 twist. Nice double twist from Casey Overton; she will open with a double pike; first two reps with this element look great.

[ top... ]
O'Neal will rest on vault and beam this week but will go on floor. [ 6:57 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Last week she had the first mishap on floor of her young collegiate career when she stepped just over the line on the first tumbling pass and then touched down on her double pike final tumbling pass, very uncharacteristic of her. We expect her to come through this week like the O we know.

[ top... ]
On to the floor for the final 15 minute rep. [ 6:55 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
Super double tuck dismount just then from Terin off the beam. Bama has [ 6:48 PM, 02/02/07 ]

2 minutes left in this long warm-up.

[ top... ]
Nice rep on beam from Ricki Lebegern; she throws a side Somi, double [ 6:44 PM, 02/02/07 ]

twist dismount. Beautiful bhs to layout-layout from Morgan Dennis.

[ top... ]
Casey throws a front aerial, bhs to layout stepout and a switch ring leap [ 6:43 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Cassie Martin is going through her beam rep and now throws a switch leap to switch 1/2 turn combination. Side aerial too looks very nice.

[ top... ]
Brittany gets two gigantic Tkatchev releases through two successful reps [ 6:38 PM, 02/02/07 ]

but her last one requires a consult with David and Bryan as she tries to figure out why she is having trouble on the re-grasp that last time. Too much power? On to the beam...

[ top... ]
Martin! Come on down. Super routine rep just then on the bars. [ 6:36 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Nice 1/2 in 1/2 out from Ricki as well on the bars.

[ top... ]
Dennis looking very good also with the double front dismount. [ 6:33 PM, 02/02/07 ]

White has that look now on bars, just intense!

[ top... ]
Stuck double layout from Terin just then and then a full routine looks very [ 6:32 PM, 02/02/07 ]

solid as well.

[ top... ]
Magee on the uneven bars: pak Salto timer [ 6:28 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Kassi, Kaitlin, Ricki looking good so far. Nice routine just then from Martin.

[ top... ]
Bama moves to the uneven bars for the 15 minute long warm-up. [ 6:24 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Kentucky to the vault.

[ top... ]
Kentucky has nice form on the uneven bars but they are struggling with [ 6:22 PM, 02/02/07 ]

release moves and transition elements. Burgin throws a healy into a pike Jaeger but continues to catch the release too close to the bars and has to come off again. They usually are more consistent and powerful on the vault, so we'll see how they shape up on this event shortly.

[ top... ]
Ashley O is working on the 1/2 twist timing so she can try and stick it [ 6:20 PM, 02/02/07 ]

this week. Ricki works the same timer and gets great results.

[ top... ]
A GREAT vault just then from Casey Overton! Wow! [ 6:15 PM, 02/02/07 ]

[ top... ]
Casey Overton will vault the Hristakieva tonight, nice rep just then (a little [ 6:13 PM, 02/02/07 ]

Gumby body, similar to former UGA gymnast Brittany Smith, but it worked for her with the judges). Terin is looking stronger with the Omeliantchik

[ top... ]
Bama will have Terin Humphrey and Morgan Dennis compete in the [ 6:11 PM, 02/02/07 ]

all around while Kassi Price, SEC Gymnast of the Week, will take a break on floor.

[ top... ]
Coach Patterson will mix the line-up a bit tonight to build more depth but [ 6:05 PM, 02/02/07 ]

has stated she feels the scoring potential will remain the same.

On vault the Tide will see Magee, White, Humphrey, Price, Lebegern and Dennis with freshman Casey Overton slated for exhibition.

On the uneven bars the line-up will remain the same from last week (White, Lebegern, Martin, Dennis, Price, Humphrey) while sophomore Brittany Magee will exhibit her routine.

On the balance beam, one new face will compete in the line-up, freshman Casey Overton. Magee, Rightley, Overton, Dennis, Price and Humphrey will be the order and freshman Ricki Lebegern will exhibit.

On the floor, some changes too, with O'Neal, White, Rightley, Lebegern, Humphrey and Dennis slated to compete in that order and Casey Overton will exhibit on this event as well for the Crimson Tide.

[ top... ]
Bama fans get ready to tumble with the Tide! [ 6:03 PM, 02/02/07 ]

We are at Coleman Coliseum on the campus of the University of Alabama where tonight's gymnastics meet will feature the Tide versus the Kentucky Wildcats.

Bama is currently ranked #4 in the nation and Kentucky comes in at #24. Bama has the highest team score to date, 197.475, which they crafted last week here in Coleman against the Auburn Tigers. The Tide wants to pour it on tonight in similar fashion against the always pesky Wildcats.
