North Carolina is up next for the Tide at home. We need a huge crowd to
[ 9:04 PM, 02/16/07 ]
welcome the ladies back home after two road trips. The team will be signing autographs at the end of this next home meet too, so make sure you're there tide fans! Roll Tide and we will see you next week from Coleman Coliseum.
[ top... ]
Coach noted they will continue to rest Price on floor next week and allow
[ 9:01 PM, 02/16/07 ]
their depth to work to the team's favor. To see Magee struggle last week and come back this week with great performances on her signature events is what we need the coach says; Terin also came back strong on beam after just missing that second pass on floor tonight.
[ top... ]
Coach Patterson is about to be interviewed and she is focusing on the
[ 8:58 PM, 02/16/07 ]
beam performance naturally, where the gals went 7 for 7 and we just learned that Amanda Montgomery earned a 9.80 for her exhibition beam routine, so kudos to her. She noted that the team stayed much more focused on their routines tonight and did not let even the large Bama contingent distract them. The focus was on hitting the routines and pulling together.
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee, our comeback kid, is being interviewed by the radio crew
[ 8:51 PM, 02/16/07 ]
and she has a definite air of excitement about her. Says she can get used to being fifth in the line-up on beam if that's where the team needs her. After her performance tonight that looks like where she belongs. Just fantastic tonight on vault, beam and her exhibition on floor as well. She may move into the line-up on floor next week at home against North Carolina with another great week of practice. Bars was looking strong but she encountered a little trouble on the pak Salto as we mentioned earlier.

Vault: Dennis and O'Neal are in 1st, Humphrey, White and Lebegern in 3rd
Bars: Humphrey wins it, Dennis in 2nd, Martin and Lebegern in 3rd

Floor: Erin Rightley and Cassie Drew in 1st
AA: Ricki Lebegern in 1st, Stout in 2nd, Humphrey in 3rd
[ top... ]
Amanda Montgomery is exhibiting on beam and doing a terrific job.
[ 8:43 PM, 02/16/07 ]
She throws a front walk-over to a side aerial, one arm bhs to wolf full jump, switch leap to tuck full jump to flutter jump, dismounts with a running front full twist, sticks the landing too! She receives a 9.80. Bama went 7 for 7 on beam tonight and can only get better. Considering they had their lowest score of the season on floor (49.075) with a fall from Humphrey and a step just over the line from Dennis for a 9.775.
[ top... ]
Kassi Price receives a 9.875 and the Tide finishes with a 197.00 even.
[ 8:42 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Peacock of Arkansas received a 9.825 for her floor score and Cortez just touched down on her final skill, a double pike, so they will count Stout's score of a 9.700.
[ top... ]
Magee receives a 9.875 for her beam routine and Kassi Price will anchor the
[ 8:38 PM, 02/16/07 ]
event for us tonight. Aerial front walkover onto the beam, wolf front aerial to follow, switch leap to split side jump, bhs to layout step-out, very nice, full turn to wolf jump, side Somi, she dismounts with a double pike, absolutely nails the landing! That's what teamwork will do for you. Every girl stepped up tonight in a huge way on this event and they've got that big road score. All goals accomplished.
[ top... ]
The judges give Terin a 9.85.
[ 8:35 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Brittany Magee is now up in the fifth position. One arm bhs to layout step-out, right on! A little balance check with the front aerial but she recovers nicely, full turn with leg horizontal, switch leap to pike jump, terrific, front punch, perfect, dismounts with a round off to a stuck 1 1/2 twist!!! We are loving the Tide on beam tonight! Hard work is paying off.
[ top... ]
Drew gets a 9.85 and Stout steps out of bounds on her opening double
[ 8:35 PM, 02/16/07 ]
pike and we're waving that yellow flag right along with Margie Pearce.
[ top... ]
Terin is through her Humphrey mount, the full twisting bhs and then the
[ 8:33 PM, 02/16/07 ]
flight series of a bhs to layout stepout; beautiful switch leap to wolf, 1/4 twisting handstand to split, and hits the double tuck dismount out of a round off to bhs, one step only on the landing. Yes!
[ top... ]
Lebegern gets a 9.875 and Terin Humphrey is up next for Bama.
[ 8:31 PM, 02/16/07 ]
LaChance received a 9.75 for her floor.
[ top... ]
Barnett gets a 9.800 for her floor routine.
[ 8:28 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Overton on beam for Bama was flawless except for that final hop forward on the gainer full twist.
Ricki Lebegern is now up for the Tide on beam. BHS to layout stepout, nice; switch leap to straddle-straddle, slight balance check but no stopping; switch side jump, awesome, full turn to side Somi, terrific, she dismounts with a perfect double twist, nails the landing to the delight of Coach Patterson, who hugs her hard.
[ top... ]
O receives a conservative 9.875 for a truly awesome routine. Casey Overton
[ 8:27 PM, 02/16/07 ]
is now up for Bama, front aerial looks great, switch leap to straddle-straddle combo, bhs to layout stepout, perfect, straddle to sheep jump, switch leap side straddle jump, bhs to gainer full twist off the side, hop forward. 9.80 score.
[ top... ]
Barnett opens with a double pike for her first pass on the floor for the
[ 8:25 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Razorbacks, to "It's a Grand Old Flag" and military marching music. Finishes with another double pike.
[ top... ]
Three minute touch warm-up. Bama is not looking as crisp as they did in
[ 8:20 PM, 02/16/07 ]
the long warm-up but hopefully will relax and get that gremlin out of their house for good. Ashley O is starting us off fine, bhs to layout stepout; switch leap to straddle-straddle combination, full turn, punch front, perfect, dismounts with a very difficult E skill, the double front in tuck position, nails it! Not one movement. David Patterson is the first to greet her with a high five. Way to go O! yells her mother behind us.
[ top... ]
Arkansas is at 145.250 with a team score on beam of 47.650 and the Tide
[ 8:20 PM, 02/16/07 ]
is at 147.650 after 3 rotations.
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee is exhibiting on floor, opening with a front through to a
[ 8:16 PM, 02/16/07 ]
double full, nice, follows with a double pike, sticks the landing. She closes with a front punch layout to a full twist. Way to go! We'll try to get a score on this routine but likely she will be deducted for the first and final passes having a large difficulty discrepancy. She received a 9.775.
[ top... ]
Bama has a 49.075 on floor, their lowest of the season.
[ 8:15 PM, 02/16/07 ]
[ top... ]
Morgan is through her double layout, big smile as she nails the landing.
[ 8:12 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Switch leap to split leap full combination, follows with a front-front full to front layout, and she closes with some snazzy dancing before a double tuck to close, just steps on the line and Margie Pearce hesitates but then raises the flag. She receives an initial score of 9.875 before the automatic one tenth is taken, for a final score of 9.775.
[ top... ]
Peacock got a 9.800 for her beam routine and Cortez a 9.325 after falling
[ 8:11 PM, 02/16/07 ]
on her double back dismount. Casey Jo Magee is finishing up for them and has a few problems but looks confident with a double twist dismount.
[ top... ]
White gets a 9.800 for her routine and Terin misses the second pass of the
[ 8:09 PM, 02/16/07 ]
1 1/2 to a 2 1/2 after nailing the double front Arabian (no steps, floated down into place like a feather). So maybe she got a little excited and forced the second pass too hard. What a shame. She just touched down with one hand to break the fall so that will still be a major deduction.
[ top... ]
Lebegern throws a triple and gets a 9.825? With no problems at all?
[ 8:05 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Kaitlin White is doing a great job, starting with a front punch layout to Rudi, follows with a perfect double pike, but encounters some trouble on the final pass, a round off whip 1/2 to whip full twist, jams the final element landing a bit and just stays in bounds. What a shame, it was looking like one of her best routines ever.
[ top... ]
Emily Peacock is on the beam next for Arkansas, full turn to open,
[ 8:03 PM, 02/16/07 ]
bhs to bhs to layout stepout, no problem; switch leap to sheep jump, hitch kick to split jump, dismounts with a double tuck, hop forward, chest down but she stands it up.
[ top... ]
9.85 for senior Erin Rightley on floor and Ricki Lebegern is up next.
[ 8:02 PM, 02/16/07 ]
She sticks the triple twist to open and comes back with a front-front full twist to front pike, beautiful control on the landing of that series and the final element especially. Dance is so much more expressive this week. She closes with a double pike - one step back to balance only, well in control. Wow, a great routine.
[ top... ]
Defilippo is up for the hogs, switch leap to straddle-straddle, shoulder
[ 8:00 PM, 02/16/07 ]
balance checks on both the jumps, fighting to stay on, front aerial, another balance check, then falls on her flight series, one arm bhs to layout stepout (fall on second element). Split leap to ring jump combination looked nice, she dismounts with a gainer back pike, hop on the landing.
[ top... ]
O'Neal gets a 9.825 for her floor and Rightley opens with a soaring double
[ 7:59 PM, 02/16/07 ]
pike and follows with a Rudi to layout step-out, timing is looking very good so far. She will close with a front-front full twist to a front layout, one controlled step forward on the landing.
[ top... ]
Stout is up for Arkansas on beam with a stag leap mount, bhs to layout step
[ 7:57 PM, 02/16/07 ]
out flight series, back tuck to straddle jump, a little balance check on the landing of the second element at the shoulders, punch front, bend to the side but she stays on, tuck full jump and she dismounts with a RO to 1 1/2, off to the side a bit with a small hop. Nice recovery routine.
[ top... ]
Ashley O opens for us on floor with a beautiful double pike, just nailed it!
[ 7:55 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Next pass is the front-front full twist to a front layout, one step forward to balance the landing. Nice dance and smiles for Judge Pearce and she will close with a double tuck, another perfect landing. Way to go O!
[ top... ]
Cassie Drew is up first for the Hogs and she falls on the third element of her
[ 7:52 PM, 02/16/07 ]
flight series (had a one arm bhs in a three series, fell on the layout portion). Back up and moving through the rest of her routine, she is looking fine, including a nice front walkover and she dismounts with a bhs to gainer full twist off the side of the beam. She receives a 9.150.
[ top... ]
Bama is leading with a 98.575 running score after two rotations and the
[ 7:46 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Hogs are at 97.600. Bama moves to the floor and needs to hit six for six and have some fun while they're at it.
[ top... ]
Peacock completes her bars (straddle Jaeger out of a healy) and takes one
[ 7:45 PM, 02/16/07 ]
small step back on the double layout dismount. She receives a 9.775.
[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis stands up her Y 1/1 with height and distance only she can
[ 7:43 PM, 02/16/07 ]
throw for a 9.90.
[ top... ]
Terin hits the Omeliantchik, one step forward on the landing for a 9.85.
[ 7:42 PM, 02/16/07 ]
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee goes right behind O'Neal and hits the Y 1/1 just fine this
[ 7:40 PM, 02/16/07 ]
week, one step back on landing. Looked great in the air and receives a 9.825. Welcome back Britt!
Arkansas is having trouble on the bars with a 9.65 from Nagashima and Daniels gets a 9.6 while Casey Jo Magee just fell on her Deltchev release. She gets a 9.125.
[ top... ]
Ashley O'Neal hits her vault career high with a 9.90 for the pike 1/2 twist.
[ 7:39 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Now, she did not stick the landing but her form in the air and height and distance were more impressive to the judges than Lebegern's and White's stuck Y 1/1 vaults earlier.
[ top... ]
Ricki Lebegern starts the Tide off with a Y 1/1
[ 7:34 PM, 02/16/07 ]
and she sticks in perfectly! A 9.85? Hello! Kaitlin comes right behind her and does the exact same thing with her Y 1/1 and gets a 9.85 as well. Hmmm.
Arkansas gets a 9.725 for their first bars routine from Drew and the second gymnast up has a straddle Jaeger with flexed feet too close to the bars but she keeps going and takes several steps back on her dismount.
[ top... ]
Coach is telling the gals to build on the great start on bars. Keep it pumped!
[ 7:29 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Three minute touch is underway.
[ top... ]
Bama leads after the first rotation with a 49.225 to the Razorbacks 49.100
[ 7:27 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Scoring on vault is a little loose tonight, so if the Tide does what they are capable of on this event (#3 in the nation), they can get the scores up early.
[ top... ]
Dennis gets a 9.875 and Price is now up for the Tide, hits all of her big skills
[ 7:24 PM, 02/16/07 ]
and hops back on the double layout dismount. She receives a 9.825 possibly again this week due to soft knees. She hit the handstands well.
Terin hits her routine for a 9.90 and just misses perfect handstand on one uprise, a little scoot on the double layout dismount as well.
Brittany Magee exhibits, looks terrific with the Tkatchev (huge in the air) but just misses the pak Salto transition and has to kip back up. She receives a 9.55. More reps will lead to better performances.
[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis hits her first handstand on bars, just misses the last one
[ 7:22 PM, 02/16/07 ]
but nails the pike Jaeger and sticks the double front dismount.
Cortez gets a 9.875 for her Y 1/1 and Stout pops back on hers.
[ top... ]
Lebegern gets a 9.800 for her bars routine and Martin sails through her
[ 7:21 PM, 02/16/07 ]
routine, goes for the stick on the double tuck but has to step forward. She receives a 9.825. Beautiful form.
[ top... ]
White gets a 9.80 for her bars routine and Ricki Lebegern hits her routine
[ 7:19 PM, 02/16/07 ]
including the straddle Jaeger, her handstands and sticks the full in dismount.
Cassie Drew received a 9.775 for her Tsuk vault and LaChance stands up the Y 1/1 but again has form problems in flight and will be deducted accordingly.
[ top... ]
Casey Jo Magee receives a 9.75 for her vault
[ 7:18 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Cassie Drew throws a layout Tsuk, bent legs throughout unfortunately and takes a step back on the landing.
[ top... ]
First up on vault for the Hogs will be Casey Jo Magee
[ 7:16 PM, 02/16/07 ]
who throws a Hristakieva, jams the landing with a step forward but stands it up.
Kaitlin White is up first, just missed perfect vertical on the first handstand but hits the Gienger beautifully, the pak Salto and nails the dismount chest high! Way to go Kaitlin.
[ top... ]
Fashion Report!
[ 7:13 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Arkansas is wearing a jersey rust red leo with a silvery gray contrasting pattern on the sides going from thigh to upper shoulder and on the upper arm midway. They have a hog on the front side in white and each gymnast has her number on the back.
Alabama is dressed in the SEC lipstick red leo from last year's post-season competition, which has a white ribbon criss-crossing at the upper shoulders and around over the bodice and onto the back. One of our favorites.
[ top... ]
For Bama we will see Kaitlin White, Ricki Lebegern, Cassie Martin, Morgan
[ 7:12 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Dennis, Kassi Price and Terin Humphrey, with Britt Magee exhibiting on their first event, the uneven bars.
[ top... ]
Three minute touch is now underway.
[ 7:04 PM, 02/16/07 ]
On vault the Hogs will showcase: Casey Jo Magee, Cassie Drew, Alex Lachance, Sam Cortez, Michelle Stout and Ashly McPherson.
[ top... ]
They're calling the hogs shortly. Bama is introduced first after the officials.
[ 7:02 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Judges: Annette Kardos on vault and balance beam
Kristi Krafft on bars and floor
Betty Roberts on bars and beam
Margie Pearce on vault and floor
[ top... ]
Arkansas' cheerleaders are trying to get the crowd into it but apparently
[ 7:01 PM, 02/16/07 ]
there is a major social event competing with us tonight, "Mama Mia" at the local play theater. So it will be a small and intimate crowd with us tonight but the good news is that we have a ton of Alabama fans right behind us, as the Magee, White, and Humphrey families and their friends are here to support their favorite gals and team. Roll Tide!
[ top... ]
Keys to victory for tonight:
[ 6:51 PM, 02/16/07 ]
For Arkansas, they need to hit five of six vaults to get the crowd involved immediately and this will set them up well on the bars, where they have a chance to score well with more difficult skills this year. Hoping for the Tide to falter like UGA did a few weeks ago, the Hogs will look to pull the upset with stuck routines on beam and floor.
For Alabama, the coaches have several goals they want to accomplish tonight, starting with a high road score that they've denied themselves at UGA and UF by not finishing the job on beam with their final 3 routines. So hitting handstands and sticking dismounts on bars as well as vault will be the team's first two objectives before heading to the floor for some fancy tumbling and ending once again on balance beam. Bama is eager for the chance to redeem themselves on beam this week and prove that they CAN get it done on the road on this event. If they don't, Arkansas is more than capable of stealing this one from the Tide.
[ top... ]
The Crimson Tide retires to the dressing room to change and there are
[ 6:45 PM, 02/16/07 ]
jugglers on the floor entertaining the crowd.
[ top... ]
Britt hits the switch leap to pike jump.
[ 6:40 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Casey hits her elements and is ready to go and Britt is really going for horizontal with the pike jump, working it over and over. Better stretch on that flight series from Kassi Price.
[ top... ]
Casey Overton is up with O'Neal a little later than the rest of the group
[ 6:39 PM, 02/16/07 ]
because they had earlier practice on the beam while the rest of the team was on bars. So they are now up. O is practicing her double tuck front dismount.
[ top... ]
Amanda Montgomery just nailed her front full twisting dismount. Let's go
[ 6:37 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Bama, keep that intensity going.
[ top... ]
Nice stuck double twist just then from Ricki off the beam.
[ 6:35 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Going for the stick on the double tuck is Morgan, almost gets it. Another beautiful flight series from Brittany, front aerial and the full turn, leg horizontal, 1 1/2 twist dismount.
Kassi throwing the wolf front aerial and the side Somi, right on!
[ top... ]
Kassi Price is looking solid as well on beam. Amanda Montgomery is now up
[ 6:34 PM, 02/16/07 ]
and hits the front aerial to side aerial combination and another front aerial later in the routine.
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee is also looking like she's back on track, hitting the
[ 6:33 PM, 02/16/07 ]
punch front and the one arm bhs to layout stepout.
[ top... ]
Kassi Price will anchor beam for the Tide tonight and Terin will go two spots
[ 6:30 PM, 02/16/07 ]
before her. Throwing double backs will be Price (pike), Humphrey (tuck) and Dennis (tuck). Dennis will also throw one less layout stepout in her flight series and is looking awesome so far. Bama is really attacking the beam in warm-ups, not wasting ANY time, getting the skills done and getting off for the next gal. You can feel their intensity this week.
[ top... ]
Looks like sophomore Amanda Montgomery will be exhibiting on beam
[ 6:29 PM, 02/16/07 ]
tonight and we are thrilled to see this, as she has a very unusual routine that we are looking forward to describing.
[ top... ]
So Brittany Magee will throw a double pike as her second pass tonight
[ 6:28 PM, 02/16/07 ]
and will start off with the E pass of a front through to a double full. No whips tonight prior to the double pike. She will close with a front punch layout to full twist.
[ top... ]
Nice leaps just then from Kaitlin, she likes this floor.
[ 6:21 PM, 02/16/07 ]
So assuming Erin reenters the floor line-up for tonight we will see Brittany and Casey exhibit. That's the order of the music at this time.
[ top... ]
Ashley O is working on her tumbling pass with Bryan spotting, a double
[ 6:19 PM, 02/16/07 ]
tuck - nice landing. Britt just nailed the double pike, way to recover. She has new music this year (Christine Aguilera).
[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis just threw a punch front layout to front full to front layout!
[ 6:16 PM, 02/16/07 ]
The gals are loose and having fun on floor, dancing along with Kaitlin's floor moves. Brittany just threw a front through to a double full, nice landing. Double pike earlier had tons of height but she paid for it, sitting that element down in the warm-up. Looks like she is getting her rhythm back well. Nice Rudi to layout step-out from Erin Rightley.
[ top... ]
Bama moves to the floor exercise where we see Ricki, Casey, Kaitlin, Erin,
[ 6:15 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Ashley, Terin, Morgan and Brittany (!) warming up. Kassi Price will rest that leg again on floor this week but she is in high spirits despite a little bit of a cold.
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee is looking terrific with her vault runs so far. O'Neal is having
[ 6:06 PM, 02/16/07 ]
some trouble controlling her rotation in the air and landing, stepping back on several.
[ top... ]
Arkansas is throwing more difficulty on bars this year with several gymnasts
[ 6:00 PM, 02/16/07 ]
throwing E dismounts (we spotted one Arabian double front and a tuck full in).
[ top... ]
On vault this week we expect to see the following gals for Bama:
[ 5:54 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Kaitlin, Casey, Ricki, Ashley, Britt, Morgan, Terin. Kassi Price will rest on vault and floor this week for the Tide.
[ top... ]
Sophomore Amanda Montgomery is doing several reps on the bars as the
[ 5:52 PM, 02/16/07 ]
teams finish up their official long warm-up times on bars and vault.
[ top... ]
Cassie Martin just informed us that she has a new skill on the uneven bars
[ 5:51 PM, 02/16/07 ]
to showcase tonight, a one arm pak Salto (she had a big grin as she told us this, so don't trust the gal). We told her we will name it officially "The Martin" in her honor if she pulls it off without pulling herself off the bars in the process.
[ top... ]
Jac Shealy and Court Priess are on this trip as well. Bama is satisfied with
[ 5:47 PM, 02/16/07 ]
their bars workout and move to the vault. Line-up for bars will be from the following gals: Kaitlin, Ricki, Cassie, Morgan, Kassi, Terin, Brittany.
[ top... ]
Bama now working on sticking the dismounts off bars and we have four in
[ 5:46 PM, 02/16/07 ]
the can so far (Cassie, Ricki, Morgan and Brittany).
[ top... ]
Arkansas is working out only 6 gymnasts on the vault tonight.
[ 5:43 PM, 02/16/07 ]
Five minutes into the first warm-up.
What a gorgeous dismount just then from sophomore Cassie Martin on the uneven bars, with both revolutions of the tuck way above the high bar and a stuck landing. We need that in the competition Maryland!
[ top... ]
We are in Hog Country watching the beginning of the Tide's long warm-ups
[ 5:40 PM, 02/16/07 ]
on uneven bars. It's the Alabama Crimson Tide versus the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville.
Terrific warm-ups on the bars so far, including Brittany Magee and Ricki Lebegern, who is sporting a new hairstyle. Very elegant!
