Alabama will need to finish strong on the floor to push the score back up to a respectable 196 plus.

Amanda Montgomery just exhibited and did another solid job on the beam this week. Highlighted by front walkover to side aerial, switch leap to tuck full to scissor jump; very nice split full jump; dismounted with a running full twist, one hop forward on the landing.

NC got a score adjustment on their first routine from a 9.425 to 9.625, hence the higher team score after throwing out the fall (Jacob) of 9.150.

out, switch leap to scissor jump, switch leap to tuck full jump to scissor jump; front aerial (beginning of the routine) and she nails the double tuck dismount! Let's see what this scores.... a 9.85! That routine may have to be inserted back into the line-up next week against LSU. Taking out that extra layout may have relaxed her.

Schneider receives a 9.425 for her floor routine. 9.8 start value. Tina Jacob opens with a double pike on the medium size mat. Great flexibility from the former Level 10 club gymnast. Front-front layout-front layout for her second pass. She closes with a 2 1/2 but touches down. She receives a 9.150.

great so far, bhs to layout stepout after opening with a front aerial, switch leap to straddle-straddle combination; switch side straddle leap, dismounts with a back handspring to gainer full twist.

She opens with a double pike, nice landing. Front-front full to front layout for her second pass. Front through to a whip 1/2 to a barani, jammed it quick there but stood it up. Not enough difficulty on that final pass so she will be deducted accordingly.

Nice flight series of the bhs to layout stepout. Switch leap to two straddle jumps, looking great and a punch front, right on; she dismounts with a double front, one step forward on the landing. Way to go O!

in the air, step on the landing. Nguyen before her really had a nice 1 1/2 Yurchenko for a 9.875. Step forward on the landing but beautiful form in the air. We saw this as a 9.90 at least for the higher difficulty and excellent execution overall. North Carolina has a team total on vault of 48.85 and a running score of 97.650.

Amanda Montgomery exhibited her routine and received a 9.575 (her Geinger release had split in the legs, missed her bail to handstand on the low bar in terms of not being vertical) but she stuck the double tuck dismount.

including the toe on toe off to 1/2 turn to front Giant to Khorkina and she throws a hop full at the end before the double layout, small hop on the landing. One judge gave her a 10.00 (not quite, but thank you anyway), one a 9.85, the crowd booed the second score profusely. They knew this was a great routine and stood in ovation. Final score is 9.925

layout! Handstands were much better and the overall rhythm and pace of this routine was terrific.

Great routine follows her from Morgan Dennis, including a beautiful pike Jaeger and she hit her handstands this week, nailed the double front dismount with a tiny step in place for a 9.825. Sorry, that score is just too low.

Toe on toe off to Tkatchev to pak Salto and a beautiful stuck double tuck dismount.

White receives a 9.80 for her bars and Lebegern completes her routine, the straddle Jaeger had a little form problem but she never stopped. Stuck the full in dismount with extra effort at the shoulder to balance and not move a foot. She receives a 9.825 for her routine.

Kaitlin White nails her routine on bars, including the double tuck dismount. Nice Geinger release and a pak Salto.

Let's see if she can stand it up in the actual competition.

Bama has a team total of 49.325 on this event after rotation one. Robella gets through her bars routine and receives a 9.70. She was mainly deducted for the missed handstands all the way through and her bail to handstand on the low bar had major leg split too, as did Nguyen's earlier, hence the lower scores.

North Carolina is wearing a contrasting leo consisting of a shiny metallic baby blue and cobalt blue colors, with the NC embedded on the front bodice in sequins.

Alabama is dressed in the shiny silver and crimson velveteen with waves etched in sequins on the bodice. One sleeve is silver and the other in crimson, a very nice contrast of their own.

For the North Carolina Tarheels, a victory tonight is not realistically expected against the #4 team in the country, but they do hope to obtain a strong road score that will keep them on track to qualify to their regional in April. The Tarheels open on the bars and will need to bank at least five routines without a fall before they move to vault, where they looked much stronger in long warm-ups. If North Carolina can clinch five of six routines on the floor and beam, they should score well and challenge the Tide to hit on all four events in order to secure the victory for the home crowd.

For the Crimson Tide, Coach Patterson is taking this meet very serious and will be using the competition as a major warm-up for the next two weeks against LSU and UCLA. This means Alabama will need to show more aggression on vault, bars and floor and the confident finesse they showed last week on the beam at Arkansas. There will be upgrades for several gymnasts tonight, starting with Terin Humphrey on the bars and ending with Ashley O'Neal on the floor exercise. Let's hope we see that same focused and confident Alabama gymnastics team tonight that we saw last week in Fayetteville.

The Tarheels have some nice skills on bars but are having trouble staying on. They are all in excellent shape. We'll see how they do on vault now as the Tide moves to the uneven bars.
