Bama claims #91 in a row against the Auburn Tigers tonight. [ 9:06 PM, 03/16/07 ]

We'll see you in two weeks on Saturday, March 31st from Little Rock, Arkansas, site of the 2007 SEC Gymnastics Championship. Roll Tide!

[ top... ]
Ashley O'Neal is being interviewed by the radio crew and is receiving [ 9:00 PM, 03/16/07 ]

accolades from Chad and Leesa about her steady performance in the lead off position on the floor and especially balance beam since Arkansas. She is beaming with pride. Her parents were here again this week to see her in action, as they have been almost every meet since her freshman year.

Bama gymnasts and coaches are taking photos with the Medalist Club group that rode over by bus. We never take our fans for granted. Salto is there at the end of the photo with his arm around Morgan, no doubt congratulating her for a fine all around performance as well tonight (39.525 winner!).

[ top... ]
Bama fans are on their feet in the stands as the final score is called out. [ 8:58 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Way to go Bama coaches, mixing the line-up a bit when needed on floor and beam. Bama still does not have their most difficult routines out there on floor yet with Kassi and Brittany sitting out, but they will have two weeks to prepare for SECs and this will give the gals some time to rest and focus on polishing certain elements in the gym before going up against the challenge in Little Rock on March 31st.

[ top... ]
All Around Winners [ 8:56 PM, 03/16/07 ]

1st Morgan Dennis (39.525)
2nd Terin Humphrey (39.500)
3rd Julia Dwyer (39.475)

[ top... ]
Alabama: 197.375 Auburn: 195.250 [ 8:53 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Vault: 1st Ricki Lebegern 2nd Terin Humphrey, Morgan Dennis and Julia Dwyer of Auburn
Bars: 1st Kassi Price 2nd Morgan Dennis and Cassie Martin, a UA sweep
Beam: 1st Britt Magee, Terin Humphrey, and Julia Dwyer of Auburn

[ top... ]
Auburn's Julia Dwyer hit a 9.90 on floor for a double pike and ending with [ 8:50 PM, 03/16/07 ]

a 2 1/2 to punch front. Megan Hill stepped in for Carmen Nelms and had the crowd behind her with her opening double pike but she could not stand up the final pass of a double tuck. Crowd cheers loudly for her efforts. Auburn finishes on floor with a 49.050. Mills received a 9.85 for her floor routine and Puckett a 9.800. Megan Hill scored a 9.100 for her floor routine, again in place of the injured Carmen Nelms. That score will be dropped from their final total. As she was performing her routine, the Alabama team and coaches had moved over to watch her performance and provide support at the edge of the floor, similar to the Tigers' show of respect last year in Coleman Coliseum when Ashley Miles performed her final routine as a senior. Great class shown by both teams.

[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey also receives a 9.90 for her beam routine. [ 8:47 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Bama finishes on beam with a season high of 49.375 and they win it with a final total of 197.375.

[ top... ]
Puckett opens with a double tuck, a little slide backwards but she stands it up [ 8:41 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Rocking music again, follows with a whip 1/2 to whip full (front tumbling); lands the final element (double pike) chest way down and forward step to balance but stands it up also. This will be deducted accordingly.

[ top... ]

Switch leap to split jump 1/4 turn in the air; flight series is right on, full turn to wolf jump looks good; side Somi has a few balance wobbles but she stays on; dismounts with a difficult double pike, one step back on the landing. She receives a 9.725 and was hit hard for the side Somi balance breaks.

[ top... ]

[ top... ]
Julia Dwyer is up on beam for the Tigers to close out. Great flight series as [ 8:19 PM, 03/16/07 ]

always, bhs to layout layout; switch leap to wolf full, one step to balance; punch front, full turn, she dismounts with a stuck double twist. She gets a 9.90.

[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey is now up for the Tide. [ 8:17 PM, 03/16/07 ]

[ top... ]
Erin Rightley receives a 9.85 and Kaitlin White is now up on floor. [ 8:10 PM, 03/16/07 ]

She opens with a double pike - awesome! Really selling it now for the Tide fans and the other Bama gymnasts. Second pass of a round off to whip 1/2 to front full twist, another great pass execution. More boogeying for the fans and she will finish with a front punch layout to a Rudi, right on time with the music! Bama fans love it!

[ top... ]

Shanna is up first on the beam for Auburn and hits her flight series. Switch leap to straddle jump, full split jump, double twist dismount, nails the landing. Her form (toe point and leg extension) could be better but she hits her skills confidently, so you have to give her credit. She receives a 9.825.

[ top... ]
Bama: 98.575 Auburn: 97.175 [ 7:57 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Bama must be strong on the floor exercise and stay in bounds and stand up the difficult skills.

[ top... ]

her landing and gets a 9.875. Bama has a team total of 49.350 on vault and running total of 98.575.

Mills gets a 9.75, the judges hit her hard for missed handstands and sloppy form. She did throw two difficult release moves, a pike Jaeger and a full twisting Tkatchev and stuck the double layout dismount.

[ top... ]
Ricki Lebegern is up next with her Y 1/1 and sticks that one too! That's 3 [ 7:51 PM, 03/16/07 ]

but judges are not rewarding all of them. Ricki however does notch a 9.90.

Dwyer gets through most of her routine but has split legs on the bail to handstand on the low bar and never brought the legs back together. She threw a full turn to Tkatchev and sticks the double layout for a 9.80.

[ top... ]
Magee hits the Y 1/1 with a step, chest down a bit too. Great height for 9.825 [ 7:50 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Lindsay Puckett is through her routine, no major release, sticks the double layout. Missed several of the handstands too. She still gets a respectable 9.775.

9.85 for White's stuck Y 1/1 and for Price as well.

Lenkiewicz gets a 9.725 for her bars for the Tigers.

[ top... ]
Lenkiewicz completes her bars routine but misses both major handstands [ 7:46 PM, 03/16/07 ]

and takes two small steps back on the double front dismount. Pike Jaeger was her major release.

[ top... ]
Kaitlin White starts us off on vault with a Y 1/1 and nails it! [ 7:45 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Bama fans are on their feet once again - way to go Texas gal!

[ top... ]

[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.825. [ 7:37 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Brittany Magee exhibits but misses the huge Tkatchev. She remounts and finishes with a nice double tuck, nailing the landing. She receives a 9.10.

[ top... ]
Kassi Price hits the 9.875 on her bars and Terin Humphrey just completed her [ 7:35 PM, 03/16/07 ]

routine well, but will be deducted for not being vertical on the last handstand, also for the hop on the landing of the double layout. Crowd was going "ooohhhh!" throughout her routine, as she has nice pirouetting and the Khorkina release and a hop full at the end of her routine. A stuck dismount is what the judges want to see as well from the Olympic silver Medalist.

[ top... ]
Kassi Price is hitting her elements very well, going for the stretch and hops [ 7:34 PM, 03/16/07 ]

up and in place on the double layout dismount.

Meanwhile, Auburn had a fall on one of their vaults (Lindsay Puckett for a 9.325) and they will have to count this. Julia Dwyer steps forward on her Hristakieva for a 9.875.

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin gets a 9.85 and Morgan Dennis [ 7:32 PM, 03/16/07 ]

just nailed her double front dismount. Missed one handstand but wow, the pike Jaeger was just awesome! She also receives a 9.85.

[ top... ]
Ricki Lebegern gets a 9.825 for her bars. [ 7:30 PM, 03/16/07 ]

And Cassie Martin just aced her routine and the Bama crowd was hushed until she stuck the landing and they are now on their feet: "Yeah!" you could hear them shout!

[ top... ]
Claire Seiffert goes bounding forward with two large steps on her Hristakieva [ 7:30 PM, 03/16/07 ]

so she will get deducted accordingly. She receives a 9.675.

Shanna Somero takes a few steps on her Y 1/1 and receives a 9.75.

[ top... ]
AJ Mills throws what looked like a Y 1/1 in the tuck position, landed bent [ 7:28 PM, 03/16/07 ]

and with two steps out of it. She looked nervous in the warm-ups. She receives a 9.75.

Ricki Lebegern hits her routine, tiny step back on the landing of the full in dismount.

[ top... ]
Kaitlin White starts off first on the bars. [ 7:26 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Great routine until the landing of the double tuck, chest down, one step forward. Argh, her handstands were right on top of the bar except for the final one, just missed perfect vertical. She receives a 9.75.

[ top... ]
Here we go! [ 7:24 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Auburn will have AJ Mills start them off on the vault. She throws a Y 1/1.

[ top... ]
Three minute touch is underway. [ 7:23 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Auburn will only vault five gymnasts tonight, as Carmen Nelms is out from an injury suffered during the 15 minute long warm-up over an hour ago.

[ top... ]
Let's roll Bama! Fashion Report! [ 7:17 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Bama is wearing the beautiful bright blood crimson leo from SECs last year, with the white wave undulating around the front in a bow and onto the back shoulder area, also down along the left and right arms.

Auburn is in orange metallic with blue and white sections contrasting the bodice area.

[ top... ]
National Anthem next. [ 7:14 PM, 03/16/07 ]

[ top... ]

Alabama is being introduced to the crowd. They are wearing the crimson [ 7:06 PM, 03/16/07 ]

velveteen warm-ups. Bama fans straight across from us are standing to cheer the Tide on. We have about 200 folks here!

[ top... ]
Aubie the Tiger was fanning me just a little while ago and I proceeded to fan [ 7:04 PM, 03/16/07 ]

him back with our GymTide media guide. He is now off on the other side rolling around under the inflated Tiger, where the Auburn gymnasts will come out for their introduction. It's time to get this thing started!

[ top... ]
This is A-Day weekend for the Tigers and they have a good crowd behind us [ 7:02 PM, 03/16/07 ]

for their team's senior night (Jackie Smith, Nicole Barnett, Shanna Somero). The festivities should get started shortly.

[ top... ]
Keys to victory: [ 6:52 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Auburn has good difficulty on vault, beam and floor and adequate difficulty on the uneven bars to keep this meet very close, close enough to win in fact if Alabama falters. Alabama has gone three weeks at home and defeated two of the top seven teams comfortably but need to show they can get the big score outside their home arena. Tonight the coaches have challenged them to stay focused and keep their elements precise and clean, as a sloppy meet will yield the victory to the Tigers, who are hungry for their first against the Tide in over 29 years. The Tide will need to use this meet as a practice run for SECs, and this means they must be aggressive but focused throughout. If they do this, they will once again win comfortably for the 91st time over the Tigers.

[ top... ]
Stuck double tuck dismount off the beam just then from Terin and a nice [ 6:49 PM, 03/16/07 ]

flight series from Kassi (worked this over and over). Teams will leave the arena and get ready for the competition.

[ top... ]
Terin is looking good on beam with her flight series and the leap series. [ 6:37 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Double back dismounts from Terin, Brittany, Kassi and Morgan and a double front (tuck) dismount will be thrown by our ace in the hole, Ashley O'Neal in the lead-off position.

[ top... ]
Bama moves to the balance beam [ 6:32 PM, 03/16/07 ]

where we see Ashley O, Casey, Ricki, Terin, Morgan and Brittany, along with Kassi warming up.

[ top... ]
Ricki hits the triple on that last try. [ 6:31 PM, 03/16/07 ]

[ top... ]
Bryan is working closely with Ricki on the timing of her triple twist on floor [ 6:29 PM, 03/16/07 ]

as she has not had it crisply all the way around on two tries.

Erin Rightley looks strong with her double pike and the Rudi to layout stepout.

[ top... ]
Terin just threw a very nice 1 1/2 through to a 2 1/2 (second pass in her [ 6:24 PM, 03/16/07 ]

routine).

[ top... ]
The Tide now moves to the floor exercise for the 15 minute long warm-up [ 6:20 PM, 03/16/07 ]

and Auburn to the balance beam.

For Auburn on beam, we see Shanna Somero, Julie Dwyer, Lindsay Puckett, Alicia Leikiewicz, AJ Mills, and Amie Goheen.

[ top... ]
Kassi Price just hit her vault, very strong push off the table. [ 6:19 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Nice stick from Morgan Dennis with her Y 1/1 as well!

[ top... ]
Nice vault run just then from Terin Humphrey and Kaitlin White. [ 6:17 PM, 03/16/07 ]

[ top... ]
The Tide is looking sluggish on the vault and this may be due to the [ 6:14 PM, 03/16/07 ]

earlier delay (injury to Auburn gymnast on vault), so they may be a little tentative as well. The coaches are cueing the girls to work on the push off the table and then start working on sticking their landings. Ricki Lebegern just did a perfect stick on that Y 1/1.

[ top... ]
More Bama fans in the house! [ 6:09 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Many are wearing the flickering Bama Gymnastics necklace to show support for the Tide. These were given out at last week's meet.

[ top... ]
Cassie Martin is working the balance beam while the rest of the team is on [ 6:08 PM, 03/16/07 ]

vault. She scored a 9.90 here last year as a freshman.

[ top... ]
Bama moves to the vault, Auburn to the bars. [ 6:02 PM, 03/16/07 ]

On vault we will see Morgan, Ricki, Terin, Kassi, Brittany, Kaitlin, Ashley O (no exhibitions tonight).

Nice dismount off the bars just then from Morgan Dennis, a double front. [ 5:56 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Ricki is trying to spot that full in dismount landing to get the maximum score tonight.

[ top... ]
There is 7:18 left in this 15 minute long warm-up. [ 5:56 PM, 03/16/07 ]

Bama resumes their bars warm-up while the Tigers keep going on vault.

[ top... ]
The Tiger gymnast is being removed on a stretcher and her mother is here [ 5:50 PM, 03/16/07 ]

to provide support. The fans who are here also clap to provide support and encouragement as well. Back to the long warm-ups!

[ top... ]
Bama gymnasts are working to stick those landings off the bars. [ 5:44 PM, 03/16/07 ]

One of Auburn's gymnasts has been injured during the vault warm-ups and both teams are taking a break to allow the trainers to attend to her. We'll let you know when the teams are back at the long-warm ups.

[ top... ]
Bama's bus group has arrived and are yelling Roll Tide! to the ladies as they [ 5:38 PM, 03/16/07 ]

descend down the steep steps on the direct opposite side of the arena. Historically, the Tigers take the side behind us for the majority of their fans and the Alabama fans take over the opposite. The rest of the arena is closed off on both ends with two huge curtains. A huge inflated Aubie the Tiger is the latest attempt to intimidate the visitors. He's too cute to intimidate! He arches over the far corner to our right and the Tiger gymnasts will obviously run under his chest and between his legs as they are introduced to the crowd. Grrrrr!

[ top... ]
Welcome to the Plains of Auburn University for the final regular season meet [ 5:35 PM, 03/16/07 ]
