UPDATE II:
[ 12:47 AM, 04/16/07 ]
Bama comes in with the third highest score out of regionals, as Utah and Florida tied at 197.325, UGA is at 197.275 and Bama at 196.700. We will know on Monday which session the Tide will compete. Roll Tide!
[ top... ]
UPDATE:
[ 9:20 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Florida finished at 197.325 at West Virginia and UGA is looking like a 197.275, so if Bama's score holds up, look for them to come in at #3 or #4 at 196.700. Utah still has their competition to go on the West Coast and Stanford is still competing at Arizona State.
[ top... ]
Bama is heading to their 25th NCAA Championships and we will see you
[ 9:16 PM, 04/14/07 ]
there on Thursday April 26th, the opening day of competition. Bama must be one of the top three scoring teams coming out of their session to advance to Super Six Night on the 27th. With Kassi Price back in the line-up and hopefully a healthier Ashley O'Neal, this young team has a definite chance to bring home the big prize. See you in two weeks Bama!
[ top... ]
The cameras are all on Alabama right now on the Top Podium and the
[ 9:15 PM, 04/14/07 ]
crowd stood up and roared when the second team was announced because they knew Bama had won it going away! Roll Tide - way to bring in the depth to help the team press on to victory coaches!
[ top... ]
Neither teams knew the tie-breaker winner until Tony Giles announced it.
[ 9:15 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Both teams fought hard in the final rotation and that shows you how important each routine is in a meet this crucial.

Team total on floor of 49.200. The Cyclones were ahead by almost two tenths going into the final rotation but had to count several 9.7 scores and their highest was a 9.875. They have a team total of 48.95 on beam and a final team tally of 195.925. Oklahoma is tied with them and it will go to the sixth score for both teams on all four events to break this tie. Looks like Oklahoma will pull ahead by about .200. Scores are unofficial though.
[ top... ]
Flanery of Oklahoma receives a 8.900 for her floor routine and Jackson
[ 8:34 PM, 04/14/07 ]
follows behind with a strong routine for a 9.90. Brittany Koncak-Schumann just opened with a tuck full in but she steps out of bounds big time. She follows with a front-front full to front tuck and ends with a double tuck. Final score of 9.75.

Bama heads out on a bye for the final rotation. Oklahoma returns to finish

[ top... ]
Casey throws the Hristakieva vault, hop forward on the landing but
[ 8:03 PM, 04/14/07 ]
well controlled otherwise. She also receives a 9.725.

We need six sticks Bama!
[ 8:01 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Brittany Magee will start the Tide off on the vault with a Yurchenko 1/1. Step forward on the landing, chest down a bit as well. Hopefully the rest of the gals can improve on that one. Brittany receives a 9.725.

Bama moves to the vault in rotation five and will try to finish up strong.
[ 7:53 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Kentucky is on floor, Iowa State on the bars and Ohio State on the beam.
[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis is through her double layout (superb!) and follows right
[ 7:50 PM, 04/14/07 ]
behind with a tuck full in, incredible height! Smiling hugely for the judges as she moves in for her final pass - a little low at the chest on the landing, deductions will have to be taken on this one - but the crowd loves it anyway. She receives a 9.85 and the crowd is booing. Team total on floor is a respectable 49.325, highest of the night. Bama is at 147.55 and needs to finish strong on the vault to command one of the higher seeds at Nationals.
[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.90!
[ 7:50 PM, 04/14/07 ]
[ top... ]
Terin Humphrey gets a rousing applause round before she starts her floor

routine. She opens with a super double front Arabian (awesome landing and height) and comes right back with the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2, beautiful; she will close out with a double pike - awesome landing again! Crowd cheers even stronger for her gutsy performance!
[ top... ]
Ricki Lebegern throws a triple to open, one step back to catch the
[ 7:44 PM, 04/14/07 ]
landing; front handspring - front full twist to front pike, step forward to balance the landing, well within bounds; nice dance and interpretation; she finishes with a perfect double pike and the crowd erupts with elation. She receives a 9.875.
[ top... ]
Brittany Magee is up next for the Tide on floor.
[ 7:40 PM, 04/14/07 ]
She will open with a front through to a double twist (just gets it around). Second pass of a round off to bhs to double pike (very nice) - switch leap to split leap full, right on! Cat leap double into the corner (awesome!). She will finish with a front-front full twist to front tuck, couple of steps back to balance the landing but she stands up her first routine of this year (non-exhibition). Brittany receives a 9.75.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin receives a 9.85 and Erin booms her opening double pike.
[ 7:37 PM, 04/14/07 ]
She follows with a superb front through to a 1 1/2 to layout step-out; nice dance and expression as she knows this is her final performance in front of the home crowd. She finishes with a front-front full to front tuck, very nice landing and a standing ovation from the partisan crowd. She receives a 9.85.
[ top... ]
Kaitlin opens with a double pike - awesome landing! Ten Troupe erupts.
[ 7:35 PM, 04/14/07 ]
She is selling the dance as she runs through her second pass, the round off to whip 1/2 to whip front full twist, needed just a bit more amplitude but she stood it up well. She finishes with a strong front running punch layout to immediate 1 1/2. Big smile from her for the judges as she gives her final salute.

Kaitlin White will start us off on floor just like she does on uneven bars.

We are now in the fourth rotation and Alabama moves to the floor exercise
[ 7:23 PM, 04/14/07 ]
while Oklahoma will be on balance beam and Ohio State will be on bars. Michigan State will move to the vault and Kentucky and Iowa State will out on a bye.
[ top... ]
Iowa State's Janet Anson just completed the vault line-up for her team with
[ 7:06 PM, 04/14/07 ]
a 9.90 performance (Yurchenko 1 1/2). Megan Barnes before her landed a Hristakieva with a slight jam for a 9.800. Team total on beam: 49.150.
Oklahoma's Koncak-Schumann completed her routine on bars without a major release move (did a Shaposhnikova transition move) and ended with a hop back on her double layout dismount. Highest score on bars so far for the Sooners is 9.825 and she receives a 9.85. The team receives a 49.075 and they have a running total of 98.125. Bama leads them by one tenth.
Kentucky has a team score on beam of 48.800. They had a lot of problems earlier on the uneven bars.

Bama band is rocking with "Stacy's Mom" and we are moving to rotation #3
[ 7:01 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Bama goes out on a bye and Oklahoma returns to go on uneven bars, Kentucky is on beam, Michigan State is on floor and Iowa State is on vault.
[ top... ]
Terin receives a 9.85 for her beam and the Tide is standing at 49.075 on
[ 6:52 PM, 04/14/07 ]
beam and has a team running score of 98.225.
Ohio State has a team score on floor of 48.475 and Michigan State is at 48.875 on balance beam.
[ top... ]
Magee gets hit hard for the step toward the beam on her dismount with
[ 6:50 PM, 04/14/07 ]
a 9.75. Chest was down as well.
Terin Humphrey is now up and through her mount; full twisting bhs to bhs; switch leap to wolf jump; no Omeliantchik due to her shoulder so she does a different move down on the beam as required before dismounting with a round off to bhs to double tuck, one small step on the landing. Bama has so far gone twelve for twelve and will need to keep the intensity going.
[ top... ]
Morgan receives a 9.800 on beam.
[ 6:47 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Brittany Magee is up next for the Tide. She mounts and does a back headroll. She throws the one arm bhs to layout step-out, tiny step to check the landing; front aerial, full turn with leg extended; switch leap to pike jump; perfect punch front; double tuck dismount, one step forward toward the beam, chest down a bit as well (held that tuck just a tiny second too long); nice routine as well.
[ top... ]
Montgomery receives a 9.775 for her first collegiate competitive routine on
[ 6:45 PM, 04/14/07 ]
beam.
Morgan Dennis is now up and through her front aerial, bhs to layout step-out, right on; switch leap to tuck full jump to sissone, switch leap to sissone, round off to double tuck, one step back on the landing. Nice job! She did not connect the first and second leap for full bonus (switch leap to tuck full but did the tuck full to sissone).
[ top... ]
Lebegern receives a 9.850 and Amanda Montgomery is up on the beam for
[ 6:42 PM, 04/14/07 ]
the Tide. Front walkover to side aerial combination is right on, split leap full jump, front aerial, slight bobble; switch leap to tuck full jump to sissone; back walkover (one arm), wolf full jump, nice; running full twist and she nails it! Another huge hug from Sarah, who is loving the performances by her "depth" gals!
[ top... ]
Casey Overton receives a 9.800 for her beam and that was due to
[ 6:40 PM, 04/14/07 ]
being first up. It was a great routine that arguably should have score a tad higher.
Ricki Lebegern is now through her bhs to layout stepout, the switch leap to straddle-straddle combination, the switch side straddle leap, full turn, beautiful side Somi (!) and she dismounts with the double twist and nails it!!! She runs to Coach Sarah Patterson first for a big hug before Bryan and David give her the high fives.
[ top... ]
Casey opens with a front aerial, switch leap to straddle-straddle combo
[ 6:39 PM, 04/14/07 ]
followed by the bhs to layout stepout, full turn (small balance check after the turn, one foot lifted) to sheep jump, switch side straddle leap, gainer bhs to full twist, nailed it! Other than the small check on the full turn, this routine had great rhythm and timing throughout, no major glitches.
[ top... ]
Here we go Bama! The fans are cheering "let's go Bama!"
[ 6:38 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Casey Overton will lead us off this week on balance beam in lieu of our gal Ashley O'Neal, who is being rested due to a sore meniscus.

Cassie Martin receives a 9.875 for a gorgeous routine. She was
[ 6:20 PM, 04/14/07 ]
conservatively scored despite hitting all handstands with precision and superb toe point before nailing the double tuck high and away.
Terin follows with one of her best routines of the year and receives a 9.90. She left out the hop full and really hit her handstands beautifully tonight. Slightest shuffle on the double layout landing. Way to go!
[ top... ]
Morgan Dennis scores a 9.80 for her bars routine and would have done
[ 6:20 PM, 04/14/07 ]
better but just missed a few handstands. She nailed the double front dismount. Bama is sticking the dismounts tonight in a huge way.
[ top... ]
Ricki Lebegern just nailed her dismount of the full in and the crowd goes

[ 6:13 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Amanda Montgomery is up next for the Tide in her first collegiate competition and stands up the routine very well. Her co-gymnasts were screaming so loud for her. She receives a 9.700.

up around 4 pm but there is a baseball game going on as well and those diehard fans will sit in the rain to support their team. Heck we would sit in the rain to see our football and Bama gymnasts perform. Let's hope there are no leaks in the coliseum tonight though. We don't need ANY new injuries to overcome.

Keys to Victory:
[ 5:22 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Bama has been bitten by the injury bug the past two weeks since SECs and will have to press into their depth on all four events to try and pull out one of the top two scores tonight to advance to their 25th NCAA championships. The good news is that junior Terin Humphrey will be able to perform in the all around but freshman Kassi Price will only do uneven bars tonight after tweaking her left knee on the floor yesterday during practice. This puts pressure on the rest of the Tide gymnasts but in a good way. This is what the coaches have prepared the team for all year long and every team out there has nicks and bruises at this point in the season, so it will come down to who has the will and determination to hit their skills and press through to the end. Bama must be aggressive and hit those dismount landings to maximize their scoring. It's all about tonight and hopefully the Coleman Coliseum crowd will give the team enough of that extra energy they will need to bring home the victory.

So far on balance beam for the Crimson Tide,

in the extended warm-ups, the team is looking solid. Ricki is fanning Morgan after a great warm-up. It's a little humid inside and outside the arena today.
Bama will dismount with three double backs (Britt, Terin, Morgan), a double twist (Ricki), a bhs to gainer full twist (Casey and Erin) and a running front full (Amanda).

2007 Central Regional Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
[ 4:16 PM, 04/14/07 ]
Long warm-ups have begun and the Crimson Tide (#1 Seed) has completed the 15 minute timed warm-up on uneven bars and are now on the balance beam.
Kassi Price tweaked her knee yesterday on floor during warm-ups and apparently will not be competing tonight. She is dressed out with a left knee wrap and the coaches are holding her out as a precaution. So the rest of the team will have to step it up in her place. Ashley O'Neal is also being held out as a precaution. She warmed up yesterday on floor and was practicing earlier this week on beam and floor but was planned for hold out all along.
The good news is that Terin will be going all around and looked fine on the bars.
Warming up on balance beam we see in this order: Casey Overton, Ricki Lebegern, Amanda Montgomery, Morgan Dennis, Brittany Magee, Terin Humphrey, Erin Rightley.
