after winning the uneven bars with a 9.90. She notes (with a chuckle to the radio crew) that she IS indeed getting older and needs more rest to get her through the rest of the season. Hopes to compete more as soon as possible. Morgan Dennis will be interviewed next - a great all around performance for her tonight. Really improving on the uneven bars, trying to get all of those handstands and now sticking the dismount more. We also saw a better vault from her this week but with different judges they still scored it the same as last week's at Auburn at a 9.85. Her floor music this year is her choice and she noted that she likes the style better and that's why she is selling it to the crowd with consistent smiles right here at the beginning of the season.

Brittany Magee was removed from the beam line-up due to swelling of her ankle resuming during the 3 minute touch warm-up, so they replaced her with O'Neal. Again, Bama has their greatest depth on this event and despite some tentative moments by a few of the gymnasts, they got through it and brought home another solid opening month road score. So the Tide started strong and finished strongly enough for this week.

Kassi Price nails the front aerial and the flight series of bhs to layout step-out; switch leap to wolf has nice amplitude - 1 1/4 turn -slightly bends forward at the waist but controls it - wolf front aerial to flutter jump - nice - sticks the double pike dismount like the trooper she is! They deduct her for the full turn balance check - 9.750.

pretty dance - double twist second pass - finishes with 2 1/2 to punch front, legs bent all the way through, stumbles out of it on the mat and to the side of it, so this will be deducted possibly more than Mitchell's routine of 9.675. No, they score her a little higher with a 9.700. Snowden had trouble on the first and final passes but the leap and dance elements were impressive.

So Bama really needs to pick it up and not let them get back into it. Green on floor opens with a double pike, step back to balance, 2 1/2 to follow - nice dance, wolf full jump - dynamic presentation with music - finishes with a whip 1/2 to whip full (?), nice finish. 9.825.

Amanda Montgomery is now up for the Tide - nice full turn - front walk over to side aerial - slight balance check on the landing of the second element - split jump full - slight check as well - front aerial - solid - switch leap to tuck full - one arm bhs - wolf full - another slight balance check on the landing - running front full twist, slight step in place - 9.75. whoosh! That's the most nervous I've seen Amanda on the beam - pressure pressure but she handled it well.

Front aerial - break at the waist with one foot lifted up - switch leap to straddle-straddle looks good - flight series is solid as well - bhs to layout step-out - switch side straddle after a sheep jump - sticks the bhs to gainer full twist. She will be hit hard on that opening skill mishap and will lose immediate bonus, so her start value will come down as well. This was not what we needed to see happen. She is usually so strong and yet seems to still be dwelling a bit on that floor mishap earlier. Coach Patterson will use this for the future bigger meets - you have to put the previous rotation behind and prepare to perform for the next.

but Mo motions for him to focus on the beam, where Casey Overton will start this final rotation off when she gets the judge's signal. Sarah Patterson is changing the beam line-up a bit and making sure both judges have her final list. On beam judging this week: Kathy Feldmann and Vicki Smith. Terri Cooper and Mary Lou Dillard are judging floor. Earlier on vault Cooper and Feldmann judged and Dillard and Smith on bars.

Nice scale position mount - flight series of a bhs to bhs to layout step-out - nice followed by a hitch kick to side straddle jump - front aerial, bend at the shoulder with arms waving to balance - straddle to wolf jump full, bend at the waist to hold on - dismounts off the side of the beam with a gainer full, bends forward to stick the landing, going for every point.

Kaitlin White is now up on floor and opens with the E pass - front punch layout through to a front double full - second pass of a double pike -just a little buckle at the knees on landing it, one step forward to control it - nice dance before her final pass - she finishes with a Rudi (1 1/2) - finishes with straddle-straddle, full turn down onto the floor and a salute to the judge.

Kentucky's Snowden is also off on the balance beam on her flight series - so they will have to count a fall in their final tally on this event. She looks nervous up there but is throwing nice difficulty - straddle-straddle, a standing back tuck out of a leap, double twist dismount, nice recovery.

Kentucky's Ferguson gets a 9.550 on beam and the second gymnast up is Emilie Rymer and she falls on her flight series, third element. Rest of the routine looks good - front aerial and she dismounts with a gainer tuck full off the front, off to the side a bit. 9.175 is her score.

Finishes with a double tuck, shuffle step back. These are the types of execution problems we saw last week for the Tide and they need to toughen up or risk giving away vital tenths. Let's go Bama!

well as she went for the stick - one of her best in the past two years but you never know how the judges are going to view it from their closer angle. She gets hit hard with a 9.725.

Yurchenko 1/1 - drills the landing this week, no movement! But she likely will be deducted for the slight pike down and going in a bit flat again this week.

Williams on bars - straddle Jaeger, double front dismount, stumble to the side on the landing and cowboy form as well. Sluggish rotation throughout will cost her as well.

Bama will vault: Ricki, Kaitlin, Ashley, Kassi, Kayla, Morgan with Megan and Alyssa possibly exhibiting.

Kentucky has two freshmen starting off on bars: Colleen Williams and Phylicia Reshard, followed by Crissy Cannon, Hillary Ferguson, Andrea Mitchell and Emilie Rymer.

The Tide needs to stick those vaults this week! The judges last week at Auburn showed no sympathy without amplitude, form and stuck landings.

Kassi Price hits all of her handstands, the Hindorff and just misses sticking the double layout dismount. All of the gals seem to be adjusting to these bars by rotating slower this week, even Kassi, who is usually more aggressive on this event. 9.875 is her score.

throws a very strong routine, hits the Tkatchev and sticks the double layout. Really went for the perfect handstands on the high bar and added a nice toe-shoot straddle to the high bar as her transition move. She receives a 9.850.

Terin Humphrey follows with a beautiful Khorkina and a stuck double layout dismount. She receives a 9.90! Wow!

Emily Green of Kentucky gets a 9.65 for her Yurchenko 1/1, deducted mainly for piking down the landing and yet still looking pretty clean in the air, one step on the landing.

Kaitlin White on bars for Bama - nice Geinger out of a full turn to a pak Salto transition - nice handstand to full turn to double tuck (high) but rotation also for her was not fast enough. She receives a 9.775.

Andrea Mitchell throws a Yurchenko 1/1, chest down a bit, a little flat going in and a hop on the landing. She scores: 9.725

Morgan Dennis for the Tide - straddle shoot over, kip cast 1/2 turn to pike Jaeger, nice handstand transition on the high bar, nice handstand on the high bar and a 1/2 turn to stuck double tuck (cowboy form noted). She scores: 9.825

Freshman Phylicia Reshard throws a Yurchenko 1/1, deep knee (one) landing, step back but nice form in the air. She scores: 9.625

Amanda Montgomery on uneven bars for Bama - nice handstands and a Gienger, but her rotation is slow despite good pirouetting for the most part. Nice dismount of a double tuck out of a full turn, slight step on the landing. She scores a 9.725.

Kentucky had an opening season victory here at home against the Auburn Tigers and then ran into a buzz saw a week later at Southeast Missouri, tallying two points lower than their initial score of 193.425. So this week they will surely be hungry to prove that they belong in the SEC by throwing as many tricks as possible against the Tide, a team they have never defeated in dual or post-season competition. A larger crowd, if it shows, could help inspire them to a strong performance tonight. For the Alabama Crimson Tide, the coaches motto for the girls this week just like last week is: "start strong - finish strong" - Bama will once again have to pull from their depth on all four events to off-set some unexpected challenges this week, including a slightly sprained ankle that will limit Brittany Magee to balance beam and a nagging back injury that will hold Terin Humphrey to performing only on the uneven bars. Freshman sensation Kayla Hoffman will also be called upon tonight for only two events as well due to her being a little under the weather. So the Bama coaches are using this as another opportunity for the back-ups to show their stuff. If the Tide sticks to their plan by banking at least five solid routines on bars to start and five on balance beam to close, we should see another victory here in Memorial Coliseum. Roll Tide!

Looks like Morgan Dennis might be inserted into the beam line-up tonight. Two gorgeous layout step-outs just then out of a bhs. She tends to start off slow a bit at the beginning of the season and then quickly shifts into gear with her consistency. She has one of the most difficult routines and it's therefore very hard to keep her out of the line-up.

Alabama has completed the long warm-up on uneven bars and is now just finishing their vault warm-up as well.

Ashley O'Neal is vaulting and possibly will exhibit, along with freshman Megan Mashburn and sophomore Alyssa Chapman.

Kayla Hoffman is warming up all events but is under the weather and may be spelled off the endurance events tonight like floor if necessary.

Cassie Martin warmed up bars along with Terin Humphrey. Humphrey was reportedly looking solid and may be tapped on the bars only for tonight. Martin will be a 3 minute touch last decision most likely. Jac Shealy is expected to be in the line-up again this week.
