Great competition tonight, Bama was heading to a 197 plus but a few stumbles here and there kept them from almost a flawless performance. Casey Overton is the change artist/go to gymnast for this week - a 9.875 on vault, 9.825 on beam and a 9.85 for her brand new floor routine that she learned this week! She was one happy camper during the radio interview after the meet. Arkansas has shown great improvement on the bars this year and vault looks very good for them too - a little more work to upgrade their difficulty on the floor and they will be pushing the top teams in the SEC very soon. We were certainly impressed here tonight with several of their gymnasts, including Magee, Peacock and Stout.

last pass - team total still ends up being the highest at 196.775 but they were heading for an easy 197 before that final pass. More to work on in the practice gym!

Morgan Dennis is now up for Bama and nails the double layout to the delight of the crowd - new music and dance - perfect tuck full in - just aced it! - boogey time - finishes with a low double tuck and lunges forward - had a tuck through to round off to bhs into this - this extra difficulty was not needed but she is working on it now to prepare for post season, when it will be the defining element for a routine already jam-packed with opening E-level passes. Score: 9.725 Argh!

innovative moves - double spin - a little break dance move down on the beam - double twist dismount, slightest shuffle on the landing.

2 1/2 to punch front layout - beautiful form enroute - finishes with a double pike - awesome! Let's reward that difficulty judges.

switch leap to straddle, little hesitation - bhs to gainer full twist, chest down a bit - solid routine - 9.875 -

Opens with a 2 1/2 to punch tuck - perfect landing and straight on with the corner - follows with a double tuck - another perfect landing with great height as well. Cat leap double to cat leap 1 1/2 - very nice - finishes with a double pike - a little split on the landing of the last pass but she stands it up well. Score: 9.875

double stag jump - gainer pike dismount off the end of the beam. Score: 9.275

steps on the white line, so it will be ruled out of bounds - comes right back with a soaring double pike - stuck - smile! - misses her final pass and has to take a simple front salto out of the front punch layout (foot slipped) and out of bounds forwards - finishes the rest of her dance - and salutes the judges who later conference over the final score - 9.300

there and nails her double tuck dismount - Score: 9.850

straddle full to straddle full combination - whip 1/2 to whip full-whip full combination - great control on that pass - now some boogeying Casey style - will close with a front tumbling pass - another whip 1/2 to a single whip full - dang, she tumbles so fast. Score: 9.850

back tuck to very low straddle jump, that will be a deduction-dismounts with a running 1 1/2, hop forward. Score: 9.750

Second pass of the front-front full twist to front layout - lots of airtime and extension forward into the corner - dance series - finishes with a double pike - perfect landing again! Score: 9.825 - way harsh

front walkover to bhs - front aerial - not much choreo in this routine - executes the moves - bhs to bhs to full twist dismount, hop back on landing. Score: 9.750

rotation - tee shirts are being thrown out to the crowd as well.

Arkansas scores a 49.05 on the floor exercise for a running total of 146.800. They made up exactly two tenths on the Tide. Bama needs to bring this one home!

second pass of a round off to whip 1/2 to whip full twist - form a little loose but she also stands it up with a huge smile - finishes with a double tuck but her back handsprings were low and we were not sure she was going to get that last element up but she did! Score: 9.850

Nice front aerial to flutter jump - bhs to layout step-out flight series - gorgeous! Switch leap to straddle jump - full turn - side straddle jump - nice - dismounts with a terrific double tuck, one small step on the landing. Whoosh! Score: 9.850

a bit on the landing and bends as well to control her momentum - finishes with a double tuck, chest down a bit but she stands it up. Score: 9.800

bhs to layout step-out - very nice - switch leap to wolf jump - full turn - no problem this week - wolf front aerial to flutter jump - dismounts with a super high double pike, sticks the landing in place she landed that from so high! Score: 9.800

bounds - front to front full twist to front layout - finishes with a strong double tuck. Score: 9.600

She is off on her flight series for the second week in a row - off again on the switch leap to straddle straddle combination (third element missed her footing and had to jump down). Front aerial - tuck full - switch leap to switch leap combo - very nice - dismounts with a bhs to two footed bhs to a stuck double twist! Way to recover.

Magee is now up with a 2 1/2 to tuck front - a little form problems in the first element - second pass - double tuck, chest down but no steps - finishes with a Rudi - again some form problems on her first element into the 1 1/2 (soft knees during twisting as well). Score: 9.850

bhs to layout step-out - very nice - switch leap to straddle - very nice - side switch straddle jump - very nice control - full turn - side Somi - little arm wave and bend forward but no steps - sticks the double twist dismount! Score: 9.875

leap series needs more amplitude - last pass of a front-front full to front layout - they could take a deduction there.

full turn - front walkover to side aerial (hesitation, so no connection bonus) - nice front aerial - switch leap to wolf full to flutter - front full layout -tiny step on landing - Score: 9.500 - hit her on the start value and lack of bonus connection on the first series -

front-front-front (B pass) - finishes with a double tuck, chest down a bit but she stands it up well. Rock and roll! Score: 9.750

Front aerial - nice - switch leap to two straddle jumps - very nice - perfect flight series of the bhs to layout step-out - sheep jump - side straddle jump - round off to bhs to full twist off the side, step up and forward as she fought to stick the landing. Score: 9.825

Balance beam 3 minute touch was interesting - Britt Magee warmed up but is not in the line-up officially - we'll see who ends up going shortly.

Arkansas is at 49.225 on vault, running total of 97.750

Kassi Price nails her bars routine and we can throw out the 9.375 from Lebegern's mishap with her straddle Jaeger. Score: 9.95

Jac Shealy scores a 9.70 for her exhibition bars routine - another beautiful Tkatchev and she nailed the Comaneci dismount chest high, no steps. Transition move to the low bar was not vertical and the judges want to see this or they'll whack you.

Terin Humphrey follows behind with a terrific bars routine, tiniest hop back on her double layout. Beautiful form on the toe on 1/2 to Khorkina release. Score: 9.90

Tkatchev and straddle toe shoot to the high bar, stuck the double layout dismount. Score: 9.875

Cortez nails her vault but only scores a 9.825 due to being off center and limited distance from the table.

Ricki Lebegern catches her straddle Jaeger too close to the bars and has to stop before kip casting back to handstand - tuck full in dismount, chest down a bit, step forward.

Megan Mashburn receives a 9.6 for her pike 1/2 twist (landed chest down, step to the side). Very nice form in the air.

Crowd was disappointed, they liked that move! Clapping loudly to help her get back on the bars - dismounts with a full in 1/2 out. Very nice form throughout the rest of her routine. Score: 9.350

Emily Peacock of Arkansas is now on bars - straddle Jaeger to pak Salto - a little slow on the rotation - nice kip to handstand to a double layout - small hop back. Score: 9.825

Brittany Magee vaults a Yurchenko 1/1, one controlled step on landing. Score: 9.825

Kaitlin pops back on her Yurchnko 1/1 for a 9.80. It was off center a bit but was a huge vault otherwise.

DeFlippo on bars has a Tkatchev release and a full turn to double tuck dismount, one hop on the landing. Form and toe point were areas for deductions. 9.775.

Cortez falls on her release move (Tkatchev). Finishes with a hop back on the double tuck dismount. Score: 9.200

Amanda Montgomery will go on beam instead of Brittany Magee. Ashley O'Neal has a sprain and was wearing a boot in practice this past week and was questionable for tonight's meet. So she should be fine.

Alabama is in hot pink, silver white and black diaphanous netting (this is a first!) at the top for a really chic effect. Lots of sequins outlining the silver white cresting wave.

Arkansas is decked out in black leos with a hot pink chevron under the bodice and pink glitter pig on the back band.

$265,000 total to DCH!!! National Anthem by the local University Choir is spectacular.

alumni - Cheri Way, Tina Rinker, Marie Robbins are a few of this team present for the huge celebration tonight. Coaches David and Sarah Patterson are now being honored with a video history. Lots of tears in the house!

They won the first game 8-1 and are in the middle of the second game against the South Alabama Jaguars. There is a lot of excitement about this team because of the high pre-season ranking, the new freshmen and the recent announcement of all home games being completely sold out!!! Now that sounds like Bama GymTide type of support! How terrific would it be to sell out Coleman Coliseum for every home gym meet prior to the season starting???

The Crimson Tide gymnasts have just completed their warm-up on the balance beam and are moving to the floor exercise for the final extended warm-up.

Alabama senior Terin Humphrey warmed up well on uneven bars and balance beam and is expected to compete on both events tonight.

Junior Cassie Martin warmed up well on the uneven bars well and will be dismounting with a Comaneci tonight, the same one from her Hill's Angels club days. Sophomore Jac Shealy also warmed up very well on bars tonight and the Tide's depth on this event is starting to come through as we near the mid-season point.
