No individual awards tonight due to the lengthy senior night presentation [ 11:21 PM, 03/07/08 ]

by the Stanford Cardinal Coach, so we will say goodnight - see you on Sunday around 4 pm CST for the Tide's next competition against UCLA, Arkansas and Cal-State Fullerton.

Bama: 195.775 Stanford: 196.775 Nebraska: 196.050

[ top... ]
Stanford is now introducing their seniors (six in all) as Coach Smyth says [ 10:57 PM, 03/07/08 ]

goodbye officially. It's taking a long time because there is a video on each girl and Smyth is talking extensively about each one's accomplishments on these. This is good for our team to hear - this particular Stanford senior team missed nationals their freshman and sophomore years and came back strong last year to make it to the Super Six Finals and have a good chance to repeat this year. It takes hard work all the time - nothing can be taken for granted.

[ top... ]

Alabama is being introduced, followed by Nebraska and Stanford. [ 9:03 PM, 03/07/08 ]

Video highlight of the Stanford team is shown first. The team then comes out and throws tee-shirts into the stands. Seniors are wearing colorful ponchos (?) and sombreros. Not sure what the connection is but they are beaming with pride as they are introduced. Now time for the national anthem.

Keys to victory: [ 8:50 PM, 03/07/08 ]

It's senior night for Stanford and they expect big performances from Liz Tricase and Tabitha Yim especially - so look for them to perform exceptionally well on every event to send these gals off in style. Alabama will start on floor exercise tonight and must perform strong, dynamic routines on this event to set the tone early. If they can get the same confidence going on this first event as they did last week against Florida on the vault, the Tide should be able to pour it on in the remaining events and finish strong. Nebraska has been hit in recent weeks by the injury bug and has limited depth but regardless they always compete with great confidence. The Cornhuskers had one of their lowest team scores last week and will be highly motivated to get their performances back up to the level needed to move up in the rankings this week (currently at #15). This is an excellent road test for the GymTide and hopefully we will see confident performances on all four events again tonight.

Stanford's brass and a few of their drum corps from the band are here to get [ 8:45 PM, 03/07/08 ]

the small crowd worked up. They are doing a terrific job.

Bama heads to the locker rooms to change and we'll be ready to start in [ 8:33 PM, 03/07/08 ]

Bama has moved to the balance beam which will be their final event tonight [ 8:14 PM, 03/07/08 ]

Amanda, Brittany, Casey, Kayla, Kassi, Morgan, Ricki are warming up. Price looks very solid so far - working to extend those legs and point those toes. Casey is working on sticking that dismount.

Beautiful warm-up on bars just then from Kayla Hoffman! Handstands were [ 8:10 PM, 03/07/08 ]

perfect and the Tkatchev just floated!

Very nice double layout just then on bars from Amanda Montgomery, the junior from Jacksonville, Florida! Jac Shealy looks strong on bars during her warm-up as well.

[ top... ]
Casey continues to work out on the vault with Britt Magee and Megan [ 8:05 PM, 03/07/08 ]

while the rest of the Tide team moves to the uneven bars. For some reason, Alabama is starting on the floor instead of bars. They are the higher ranked team coming in to this tri-meet and should have uneven bars to start and rotate around. It may be that the coaches opted for floor to start to begin preparing the team for this possibility in the post-season.

Warming up on vault for the Tide: [ 7:56 PM, 03/07/08 ]

Kaitlin, Kayla, Kassi, Ricki, Casey, Morgan, Brittany, Megan

Great vault just then from Kayla - the rest of the gals don't seem to favor this table too much - vaults are going in flat.

[ top... ]
O'Neal will exhibit tonight on floor possibly. She is working in the seventh [ 7:46 PM, 03/07/08 ]

position. Both ankles are taped.

Bama now moves to the vault for the 15 minute warm-up - Tide looks very loose and are cheering each other heartily on every practice effort.

[ top... ]
The Tide has moved to the floor and it looks like Brittany Magee will open [ 7:39 PM, 03/07/08 ]

for the Tide on this event tonight. Warming up also is Kassi, Casey, Morgan, Kaitlin, Ashley O'Neal, Kayla and Ricki. Nice double layout just then from Morgan.

Kayla's uneven bars routine has been adjusted to replace the 1 1/2 with a 1/1 to immediate Tkatchev. Very nice front-front full twist to stuck front tuck (no steps) from Brittany Magee. Nice triple on floor from Ricki Lebegern as well. Will we see this tonight?

[ top... ]
We've had great weather here on the West Coast, having spent the day in [ 7:23 PM, 03/07/08 ]

San Francisco. The team will be spending time in Los Angeles tomorrow and may be making some expensive purchases on Rodeo Drive, so watch out parents! Your credit cards may have some unexpected charges soon (just kidding).

Alabama is warming up for the first fifteen minute period. Kaitlin, Morgan, Cassie, Jac, Brittany, Kayla, Kassi, Amanda and Ricki are taking the reps. David Patterson reported that Amanda Montgomery will exhibit on bars tonight and throw her new dismount, a double layout.

[ top... ]
Crimson Tide Gymnastics - live from Palo Alto, California [ 7:19 PM, 03/07/08 ]

We are in Maples Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University, where the Alabama GymTide will compete tonight against the Cardinal and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Terin Humphrey did not make the trip per assistant head coach David Patterson. Terin is receiving treatment for her back in Tuscaloosa and will take advantage of the rest from competition this weekend to get completely healthy in time for the final two home meets against Penn State on the 14th and senior night, on the 21st against the Auburn Tigers.

Alabama will start tonight on floor instead of the customary bars as the highest ranking of the two visiting teams (Huskers were #15 this past week). Nebraska will start on balance beam and finish on vault for the meet and Stanford will have Olympic Rotation by starting on the vault and finishing on the floor as the host team.
