We saw the Tide really pick it up in this meet by showing more focus and intensity in the practice gym on Tuesday and Wednesday that transferred to the competition floor. The Alabama coaches will still need to find a way to get Cassie Martin and Kayla Hoffman mentally tough enough to get their respective bars and balance beam routines down pat - for Martin it is the final elements in her routine that are still bamboozling her while Kayla continues to struggle with the flight series. The GymTide really needs these routines for their high scoring potential in the post-season, so hopefully the puzzles will be solved in the next few weeks. Kudos once again to Kassi Price, Morgan Dennis, Brittany Magee and Casey Overton for pacing the team, along with the happy return to solid performances in the all around by sophomore Ricki Lebegern. Kaitlin White is leading this team now with consistent performances on bars and floor (9.90 tonight) and you can tell she really wants to see the team go out on a high note before she hangs up her grips. Casey Overton completes her bars routine exhibition - full turn to Tkatchev to immediate Pak Salto and a full turn to double tuck dismount, one step on the landing. Score: 9.750 - deductions occurred on the transition Pak (flexed feet, limited amplitude).

Jac Shealy comes right behind her with a solid exhibition routine, sticks the landing of the Comaneci 1/2 and soars the Tkatchev once again - missed handstands are killing her and the transition to the low bar not reaching perfect vertical position - 9.675.

Personett completes the Hristakieva for the PSU Lions - Score: 9.875 - great amplitude, one step forward on the landing - form had some separation mid-air but very powerful.

Satterfield threw a Y 1/1 - 9.725 Smith scores a 9.750 and Brockway a 9.825 for a stuck Y 1/1 that had limited distance from the table, head down as well on the landing.

but landed it without a step. Megan Mashburn comes right behind with a really solid pike 1/2 - for a 9.75 - well-centered vault - form good in the air and she spotted the landing much better this week, one small step only.

Kayla Hoffman is right behind her with barely a shuffle on her Y 1/1 for a 9.925 as well.

Brockway dismounts bars with a double pike, chest down and a step forward with a arm thrown forward as well to stop her momentum. Score: 9.750

Jaeger had foot flexing but she has otherwise nice lines on the bars. Score: 9.750

Personett throws a Gienger (legs come apart) and rotates much faster and more confidently - double layout dismount - chest down but she sticks it to the delight of her coach. Score: 9.850

Third girl (Rohrbaugh) falls on her dismount so that will definitely be at least 5 tenths deduction. Score: 9.175

Casey Overton opens for the Tide on vault with a Yurchenko 1/1 - will she repeat her fantastic performance last Sunday at UCLA? Great vault, slightest scoot back - so much more confident on this event this year. Score: 9.800

Penn State on bars - Hover pirouettes and has nice lines, no major release move, double tuck dismount, sticks the landing. Score: 9.850 a little high considering the obvious execution errors - we will review this on the video.

You get the feeling tonight after watching long warm-ups that the Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team will do anything necessary to avoid another lackluster performance like last week on the West Coast - they have been all business in the practice gym this week and again during the 15 minute reps, so hopefully we will see much improved focus and polished routines like they showed here two weeks ago against the Florida Gators.

Penn State comes in ranked #20 and is still a worthy, talented opponent that will take advantage of any opportunity that the GymTide gives them to pull off the upset, just like Stanford, Nebraska and Arkansas did last week. Penn State will rely heavily on sophomores Brandi Personett and Alex Brockway to pace them in the all around in hopes of pulling off a high enough road score to push them up in the RQS rankings. It should be a great competition if the crowd can get into it early and inspire the GymTide to the types of performances they will need heading into the post-season in just two weeks.

The Crimson Tide has completed their vault long warm-ups and now move to the uneven bars and balance beam. Team is cheering each other but quickly moving on to the next gymnast to make the most of their reps time.
