Tightly executed Yurchenko 1/1 vault with one left foot step back on the landing; she was possibly deducted also for not being totally centered relative to where she landed away from the vault. Her being the first vaulter up in the first event of the first meet of the season may have influenced this score too. |

The score does not reflect it but this was a more explosive Yurchenko 1/1 vault in terms of blocking and amplitude in the air from Kaitlin compared to past years; a controlled hop back on the landing and her being slightly off center as well was whacked a little stronger by the judges.

Tight form and great amplitude on her Yurchenko 1/1 but limited distance from the vault table on landing likely cost her the higher score. |

We thought this was one of the two best vaults thrown but the judges apparently caught something that we could not clearly see on the replay. Yurchenko 1/1 - Kassi showed tighter form than we're used to from her on this vault and she basically stuck the landing with the slightest shift in placed on impact. One possible area of deduction (this is only a guess because we did not have a proper angle to determine) is that she may have piked it down or had loose form upon blocking
but covered this up well as she finished her rotation in the air right before touchdown. From the judge's position, they could have determined this easily. |

Beautiful form throughout with a flare out at the end on the Yurchenko 1/1; she even seemed to gain more amplitude as she went into the final twisting element before touch down, slightest hop almost in place. Score was simply not reflective of how good this vault was in person.

We saw greater amplitude on the Yurchenko 1/1 and a better landing but the right foot shift cost her the higher score as did the slight pike down of this vault as she finished the twisting. Distance from the vault table could have been better as well. |

Very impressive opening routine, pirouetting was nicely controlled and on top of the high bar, Geinger release had legs together and she stuck the dismount (full turn to double tuck, both revolutions high above the bar, landed chest high). |

First meet jitters showed, as she was not quite reaching vertical on her handstands like she did in warm-ups. Nice Geinger release but a little crooked on the full turns on the high bar (two thrown); also deducted for a rather large step back on the landing of her double tuck dismount out of the last full turn.

The primary problem with this routine was that Morgan missed reaching vertical on all the kip casts to handstands and was whacked accordingly by the judges. Another effortless pike Jaeger release and a very nice double front dismount, just slightly shifted foot on landing; cowboy form likely deducted a bit as well. Straddle casts to handstand may afford her a better chance to reach vertical on these critical handstand elements.

Kayla was a little nervous with this intricate routine, resulting in a double turn on the top bar instead of a planned 1 1/2, along with a few necessary countering 1/2 turns out of giants to prep for the Tkatchev. Overall, she recovered well, completed the bonus skills and ended with a nice, tight double layout dismount, small hop on landing. |

Nice form, legs together, super toe point and solid execution of the Hindorff release, free-hip giant to handstand, full turns on top of the bar, consistently vertical handstands and a double layout dismount, small hop on landing.

Terin "warriored up" for this event despite experiencing back pain over the past week. She was heavily deducted for a counter pirouette that did not reach vertical; executed a nice Khorkina release and stuck the double layout dismount..

Well-excuted routine, no significant balance checks and she stuck the dismount (bhs to gainer full twist off the side). A running side straddle leap (also known as a switch 1/4 turning straddle leap) could have shown more amplitude perhaps. Nice bhs to layout step-out, switch leap to two straddle jumps, front aerial, sheep jump were other highlights.

Her new choreography and flow are second to none but for some reason the judges either really like this unique routine or others possibly perceive it to be not up to the level of competition and whack it hard, even if the elements are executed with good form and without noticeable balance checks. Some guesses therefore on where she may have been deducted: this routine has only one backwards salto and it may have been perceived that she was cheating a bit with her one hand
(extended) relatively close to the beam on the one-arm bhs layout step-out. Also she may have been deducted for not having as tight form as would be desired on the front aerial and possibly for repetitive moves (threw both a split full jump and later a wolf full jump without attaching another element for combination bonus).

Overall, a well-executed routine with minor deductions on a leap series (third element had slightest shoulder shift on landing), on the side Somi (slightest arm shift) and a small balancing step in place on the dismount (round off to double twist).

Her debut on beam had several balance checks that unfortunately added up; also did not fully connect her front aerial to gainer back layout step-out series for bonus; very nice flight series of bhs to layout step-out, switch leap-switch leap combination and a switch leap to tuck full jump required a one foot shift to balance the landing. Dismount was difficult - bhs to two-footed bhs to double twist, small hop back on landing. Great form throughout.

Demonstrated more confidence and control with her first routine of the 2008 season. Flight series this year: front aerial to bhs to layout step-out; switch leap to wolf jump (slight balance check on landing of second element but she covered quickly and moved on); wolf front aerial to flutter jump; round off to bhs to double pike dismount, landing well but a little leg split observed in flight.

Nothing wrong with this routine until she had a one foot forward balance step on the landing of the new gainer back layout step-out. Strong execution of the front aerial and the flight series: gainer one arm bhs to layout step-out, as well as the switch leap to pike jump to tuck full jump combination; full turn with leg horizontal; dismounted with a round off to double tuck dismount, chest down just a bit but stuck the landing, both revolutions way above the beam for extra emphasis.
Arguably should have scored about a 9.875 relative to the difficulty she threw and the execution overall compared to the other routines.

Nice flight series of the bhs to layout step-out to another layout step-out (slightest balance check at shoulder, adjusted quickly); switch leap to tuck full jump and another one later to a flutter jump; double tuck dismount, one step back on the landing, just a little sluggish in the air. |

One large step back on the opening double pike, well-controlled front-front full twist to front layout for her second pass and a high double tuck to finish. New music is crowd-pleasing and Ashley really sold her new hip hop dance moves well, to the delight of the Ten Troupe.

Great opening meet routine - hit all of her passes with mid-season confidence: double pike (huge in the air, great landing), front 1/2 to front full twist and ended with a very strong punch front layout to immediate Rudi (1 1/2), excellent chest high landing as well. New music this year with choreography that seems to fit her personality a little better.

Beautiful opening double pike and a double tuck to close; encountered some balancing checks on the landing of her new second pass: front handspring to front full twist to front layout - but stayed in bounds; some new dance elements refresh this routine that has the same music from last year.

She showed the home crowd that she is everything we've been advertising since she signed with the Tide. Opening pike full in, landed beautifully, followed by a well-excuted and very difficult second pass of a 2 1/2 twist to immediate punch layout; closed with a double pike, excellent amplitude and height on this pass as well. The dance elements were both classical and hip hop, enlivening this routine at just the right point where the crowd could really get into it and set her up
for a successful final tumbling run. Great debut!

Feeling the competitive fire after Kayla's successful debut, Kassi matched her super solid landings on each pass and sold her new dance and music elements very well to the home crowd. Opened with a 2 1/2 twist to punch front, followed by a double tuck and ended with a double pike. The only thing we could ask for is that she smile more during the saucy dance sequences - this would have really sold it to the judges and a higher score might have been the reward.

Unbelievable amplitude on the opening double layout - where does it come from? But she had a bit too much momentum and power on the second pass, bounding just out of bounds backwards when it initially looked like she had it nailed (front tuck through to a round off to bhs to double tuck); finished with a solid double tuck. New music and dance this year as well was well-received by the crowd. Morgan is noticeably more comfortable on floor with her dance and overall presentation
and just needs more reps with this new routine to have a more polished result. |
