Keys to Victory
[ 5:48 PM, 04/04/09 ]
The #3 Alabama Crimson Tide Gymnastics Team is coming off their sixth SEC Championship title and yet tonight must put all the warm fuzzy feelings associated with that incredible victory aside and shift focus to the most important competition of the season - the regional qualifying meet, where only the top two scoring teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. Alabama knows the slate is wiped clean for all six teams competing here tonight and this means the Tide must be on their toes and hit six for six on all four events to control their destiny. Bama has a bye before starting on two of their best events, floor and vault. They can make a strong statement right out of the chute if they perform like we saw two weeks ago in Nashville on these events. The Tide will then rotate out on a second bye before returning on their final two events, uneven bars and balance beam. Bama will need championship type performances from their top all-arounders, Priess, Dennis, Lebegern and Stack-Eaton on these last two events, along with Kassi Price, who is replacing steady junior Casey Overton as she continues to rehab her shoulder. The crowd has arrived in good numbers to support the current SEC Champions, so let's see if the gals can give the home fans an even better performance than we saw in Nashville. Roll Tide!

New Hampshire will be on floor, Central Michigan will be on vault and Maryland will be on uneven bars.
On balance beam, expected competition order - Lebegern, Sullivan, Price (!), Geralen Stack-Eaton, Dennis and Priess.
Casey Overton will be held out due to one of her shoulders locking a bit where sutures from a previous surgery are shifting during some of her moves, which reduces her flexibility needed to complete forward and backward movements.

Alabama is wearing a new shiny metallic crimson leo with the official A logo on the front in houndstooth print - sequins abound near the neckline. This is the first time we can recall in modern time (say the past 25 years) that Alabama has had any logo print on their leo. It is very stylish and eye-catching. We'll see if it shows up in the official competition leo or a variation.
