[Note: continued frim Part1 - Session 2...]

Marching into the Super Six with renewed confidence the next night, Alabama was well aware that there would be little margin of error allowed to seriously vie for the national title.  The Tide drew the coveted Olympic rotation, starting on vault with an impressive team total of 49.425.  Highlights this time were provided by the freshman-sophomore-junior trio of Priess, Hoffman and Dennis, who matched each other with 9.90 scores.  Lebegern garnered a 9.875 for her more difficult Yurchenko 1.5 and Stack-Eaton (9.85) and Terry (9.80) stood up strong Yurchenko 1/1 vaults of their own to set-up their teammates from the #1 and 2 positions respectively.  Alabama kept the momentum going on the uneven bars (49.325), where Hoffman redeemed herself from the night before with panache, hitting her Tkatchev and sticking the double layout dismount cold for a 9.90.  Dennis (9.90) and Priess (9.875) performed outstanding routines as well and junior Kassi Price successfully returned (9.80) to the bars line-up on her signature event for the first time since a broken finger side-lined her during the second half of the season.  The Tide took a bye in rotation three before moving to their final events, balance beam (49.325) and floor exercise (49.500). Teamwork was the order of the day on the beam once again, as the Tide rocked six for six routines, despite the Georgia Bulldog fans who were screaming loudly nearby during their team's vault run.  Bama then rotated to the floor exercise, leading off with senior Ashley O'Neal (9.875), who was truly electric with her smile and dance as she tumbled for the final time in a Crimson Tide leo.  Her tears were evident after the final pose and salute to the judges - she had managed to perform her best on the night that counted the most.  Sullivan (9.875), Stack-Eaton (9.90), Lebegern (9.875), Priess (9.90) and Dennis (9.95) made the Crimson Tide fans proud as well with their final efforts for the 2009 season, despite coming in just short of the tenacious Dawgs (-.250).

The Crimson Tide will now look forward to some well-deserved rest, along with rehabbing some of those persistent aches that go along with the sport.  And for junior Casey Overton, a little off-season clean-up surgery will take place soon to help her regain her shoulder flexibility on balance beam, vault and floor exercise for her senior campaign.  Alabama will welcome newcomers Marissa Gutierrez (WGA-Texans) and Ashley Sledge (World Class Gymnastics) to the team later in the summer and we will be busy reporting on their skills as well when the official Fall pre-season practices begin in September.

And finally, a huge "Thank You!" to all the loyal, dedicated, persistent fans of this team that never gave up during the 2009 campaign, even when the going got rocky around mid-season.  We know that the coaches, gymnasts and their families appreciate your support and view it as absolutely vital to producing winning teams on the gym floor, year in and year out.  Please know that you are NEVER taken for granted by the powers that be.  Roll Tide!
