Sunday our team gathered for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner at our home. This is always a special occasion for our "extended family" and one that I truly enjoy. Everyone is excited about the upcoming holidays, traveling home, and a well deserved break from our daily schedules.
The past few months have seen our team start to form bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime. They have all struggled through difficult times, be it math lab, biochemistry tests or a brush of homesickness and sometimes, some technical issue like adjusting to the new vault table! For each individual there has been some problem or concern to conquer...and over the next few months, there will be many more.
But this week, I was reminded again why I enjoy what I do because I am fortunate enough to spend time with extraordinary young ladies who have chosen to be a part of the Bama Gymnastics family. This week our ladies continue to help each other by committing themselves to another team member in whatever area that is needed. Offering support and committing yourself to helping another person is something that helps our team grow as a group and individually. Our team is not necessarily as strong as it will be come April -- athletically, academically or emotionally, but we are making steps each day to insure our success. Sometimes, that is just about all a coach can really ask for.
May your Thanksgiving Holiday be filled with happiness and time with loved ones. I am looking forward to cooking, relaxing, and watching the Crimson Tide in Hawaii!
Happy Thanksgiving Holiday to you and yours! Roll Tide!
