Chalk talk - October 26, 2004

As we reach the midpoint in this fall semester I thought I would take a few minutes to update you on our team's progress and invite you to join us for our annual "Ghost and Goblins" Intrasquad on Friday, October 29th at 1:30 p.m. The first half of the semester has flown by and while we have certainly had our share of challenges thus far there have been bright spots as well. It has been fun to watch senior Shannon Hrozek place herself in a position to have a stellar Senior Season as she continues to amaze the coaching staff with her new skills and determination. Shannon has always had the physical talent to excel in the All-Around, but this year she has taken her gymnastics to a whole new level. Look for some exceptionally exciting new changes in her uneven parallel bar routine!

Our freshmen class although a bit behind in preparation for the upcoming season will soon provide the added depth we so desperately need. Mindy Webber is recovering nicely from her unexpected surgery at the start of the semester. Mindy reported to campus with an unhealed stress fracture in her tibia that required surgery and the placement of a metal rod for stability. While the surgery has limited Mindy's participation it is obvious to the coaching staff that she has the ability and determination to overcome this obstacle and have a great freshman year. Kaitlin White continues to work to regain her competitive form and fitness level she had as an elite gymnast at WOGA, while walk on Jessie Silver has been a bright spot for everyone as she regains her skills and improves with each day. Everyone is excited to see Terin Humphrey join our squad in January and while it will take some time to "adjust to her new life" Terin will have a tremendous impact on the success of our team this spring. You can catch Terin and the rest of the Silver Medal Olympic Team at the TJ Maxx Tour of Champions in Birmingham on Tuesday, November 23rd. TJ Maxx recently added this stop to the tour. This would be a great way to start the Thanksgiving Holidays!

Look for more updates on our website weekly and if you have time come join us Friday, October 29th for a glimpse of the 2005 team at our "Ghost & Goblins" Intrasquad, it promises to be fun, challenging and most definitely competitive.
