This will be our motto over the coming months as this 2005 team makes our way to the NCAA Championship on the plains of Auburn. This Tide team resembles some of our earlier teams, a few that struggled in the beginning only to find their way down a championship road.
There are numerous reasons for our slow start, but as I told our ladies we will offer no excuses, only solutions.....solutions that include enthusiasm, commitment and the opportunity to improve with each and every meet. We have so many areas that need attention and we will begin addressing these concerns immediately. I have said before that sometimes you have to just "get out there and do it" before you really know what your weaknesses are. Sometimes a good "reality check" is important and there is nothing like great competition to let you know exactly where you stand.
Ashley Miles first time performance in the All-Around was spectacular. I am extremely proud of the way Ashley handled everything and I think she will be a force to be reckoned with this season. The key to Ashley's success will be making sure we don't overuse her as her ankles are a bit fragile and weekly pounding will take its toll if we aren't careful.
Erin Rightly and Dana Filetti both competed more events than ever before and did a good job in their season debuts. This was Erin's first experience in competition and I really look forward to her improving and adding new skills each week. Alexis Brion showed why she was All-American on vault and floor - look for her to make a run in the All-Around competition this season as well as Shannon Hrozek.
We are excited about our opening meet at home Friday, January 14th as we take on the Cyclones of Iowa State. It's "Kids Get in Free Night" for all children 8th grade and younger so tell your friends about it so they can come enjoy the excitement of Bama Gymnastics.
My sincere thanks to Chad Anderson and Leesa Davis for providing our fans with live commentary over the radio and internet - they were "awesome" - as Alabama Gymnastics continue to set new standards for the rest of the collegiate gymnastics community!
We are excited about the season and look forward to improving with each and every meet. I guarantee that we will be a better team when we take the floor Friday night in Coleman Coliseum - See you there!
