I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make our first annual "Target the Cure" meet such a tremendous success. My goal for this event was to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer using our gymnastics competition with Auburn University as a venue to market these efforts. I could not have asked our surrounding communities to have done more.....from billboards, posters, promotional items and tremendous media coverage over 13,000 fans packed Coleman Coliseum for this event while thousands more benefited from our meet's tremendous publicity.
My sincere appreciation to Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and their efforts to distribute informational materials, t-shirts and promotional items to our fans.
A huge THANK YOU goes to The Linen Closet of Tuscaloosa for donating a set of Vera Bradley "Hope" luggage as promotional items as well as Cycle Path, The Bank of Tuscaloosa and Northridge Fitness Center. These businesses support of this event helped make our competition spectacular and kept the fans "Dancing in Their Seats" in hope of winning some exciting prizes.
I think our Jumbotron and "Kiss Cam" have become the most popular event at home meets.....you just never know when the Jumbotron camera will roam so get ready to "kiss" that special person sitting next to you on Friday nights. Thank you to Jeff and Rachelle Thompson and the Auburn gymnasts for their willingness to support and participate in this event and to Elite Sportswear for providing the "Pink" for the evening.....both teams looked absolutely sensational. It was truly an amazing sight to look up in the stands and witness the "Sea of Pink" as everyone joined us in dressing for the occasion. Just remember guys "real men wear pink!"
To Larry O'Neal and the DCH Foundation, thank you for establishing the DCH Breast Care Fund where those needing financial assistance in either early detection and/or treatment can go for help. This makes all the hours of effort over the last few weeks worthwhile.
And last but certainly not least, thank you to our Alumni who traveled from across the country to be with us for the weekend. It was a wonderful two days filled with laughter, love and great memories. Without these dedicated women spanning over the last 25 years our program could never have achieved such levels of success. It is truly something special to be a part of the Alabama Gymnastics family!
We are moving forward this week and getting ready for the Wildcats of Kentucky, but I promise you this.....no one will forget the efforts that were made last Friday night in helping us "Target the Cure" in the fight against breast cancer.
Roll Tide,
