Chalk talk - 9/1/2005
As we begin our first full week of classes our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of hurricane Katrina and their families. Our team spent most of Sunday at the Coliseum weathering the worst part of the storm in the safest place available. Obviously our focus was on making contact with families of our athletes and former athletes who reside in the Gulf Coast area. Rachael Delahoussaye's family was probably hit the hardest in Mandeville, LA, right outside of New Orleans and we were relieved to know that everyone survived the hurricane although the damage was rather devastating. Rachael, joined by her boyfriend and his parents has gone to be with her family. Hopefully they will be able to bring supplies, generators and other essential items to help provide Rachael's family some sort of relief and support. Please keep the Delahoussayes in your thoughts and prayers.
The University is serving as a relief area for many residents who were evacuated due to hurricane Katrina. Over 500 people are presently residing in the UA Recreation Center and we hope our team will be able to provide help in terms of volunteering during the relief efforts.
Despite the devastation that hurricane Katrina has delivered classes at the University have resumed and we will continue to begin our training schedule and hope to be returning to a more "normal routine." While the evidence of the hurricane is everywhere you turn we continue to be thankful for our health, opportunities and the ability to help others. We are constantly reminded that none of these things should ever be taken for granted.
Please join us in our continued prayer for those less fortunate than us.
Roll Tide,
