Tis the season…..with the 2001 gymnastics season just around the corner, it is hard not to feel the excitement of our fans and team members. This past week, our ladies have spent their time sharing in the holiday spirit in doing for others less fortunate than themselves.

Monday the team hosted the annual RISE Christmas party much to the delight of the RISE children. We entertained approximately 85 young children and helped them roll, swing and jump in the wonderful "playground" we train in. All had a wonderful time and even "Santa," alias Coach David Patterson, arrived just in time to either delight or frighten the children!

Wednesday night found our ladies joining other University student-athletes at the Project Angel Tree Party. Earlier in the semester, our team organized a bake sale with the proceeds going towards the purchase of gifts for a family of children adopted by our team. Our family left the Coliseum with smiles on their faces and loads of Santa's toys for everyone. And just when you thought our ladies would be turning their thoughts to final examinations, they took time from their hectic schedule to join the Phi Mu sorority for the Big Oak Ranch Boys and Girls Christmas Party. There they signed autographs and mingled with the children from the Ranch.

I cannot tell you how proud I am of these ladies and their commitment to community service and helping those who truly need our time, efforts, and prayers. Tis the season….to be proud of your Alabama Gymnasts.
