The Booster Organization for the University of Alabama Gymnastics Program
<< The update for the week >>
(Monday, January 08, 2001) [ Coach's Corner: Archives ]

The Super Six Challenge was sensational, providing our fans with the finest gymnastics competition since the University hosted the 1996 NCAA Championship. The competition was awesome and look for these teams to continue to improve over the course of the year and make a run for the NCAA Championships.

Our Alabama gymnasts showed signs of nervousness but used the enthusiasm of the crowd to overcome the "first meet jitters!" Without our annual "Meet the Team " exhibition our ladies had to prepare for competition in a different way. It was interesting today in a team meeting how all of the upperclassmen commented on missing this great opportunity to get ready for competition. Our fans who normally attend the "Meet the Team" have played an important part in our success over the past few years, so look forward to the return of this exciting event in 2002.

I have said before that after the first meet the name Jeana Rice would be one to remember and Jeana certainly was stellar in her Crimson Tide debut. Jeana shows signs of greatness and has many more "weapons" to showcase as the season continues. Look for her name again in the headlines.......

Andree Pickens showed us in the Super Six Challenge why she is one of the nation's finest athletes. She has accepted the challenge to be Leaner, Faster, Stronger and Meaner! We are thrilled for her and her success, it is well deserved.

Look for new names in the coming weeks, upgraded routines and a more confident Crimson Tide! Thank you for your support, now I encourage everyone to bring one NEW fan to the Auburn meet this Friday and turn them on to Alabama gymnastics! Hope to talk to many of you on the on-line chat scheduled for Wednesday Jan. 10th at 7:00 CST. Roll Tide, Sarah Patterson
