Things are hot down here in Tuscaloosa. And, no I'm not referring to the sunny 80 degree weather that sent me to the pool for my studying today. This team is on fire. Routines and event line ups are really coming together and now we're all just counting down until January 11th when we finally get the opportunity to showcase the talent, determination, and passion that Alabama Gymnastics is all about.

We're on a voluntary practice schedule this week so everyone is able to come in and workout based on their exam schedule. If someone has three exams one day, they may opt not to come in, or perhaps just condition one day after pulling an all-nighter. Basically, this week is all about smart gymnastics and staying healthy while finishing the semester out strong.

This past Friday we had the annual RISE Christmas Party at the Coliseum. The RISE Center is a school for both developmentally disabled and mainstream children from birth to age six. It's located right here on the University's campus and it's such a treat for our team to work with them. About 80 kids come to play in the gym and we all have such a blast chasing them around and just holding them. The kids are absolutely adorable and it's just amazing to see their faces light up as they enter the ultimate playground. One of the little boys with Down syndrome just laid in the pit the entire time with a huge smile plastered across his face, and it just made me realize how blessed I am and how much I take for granted. It's rather strange that a three year old can affect your perspective on life, but that contentment is what we all strive for and yearn to have. I know all the RISE kids had a great time, but I think our team may have had even more fun:)
