Though Georgia is one of the toughest dual meets of the season, I honestly could not think of what to write last week. The meet is so hyped by the media that almost all angles are covered. I figured that this would give you enough information in place of a journal. We did not compete to the best of our ability last weekend. We cannot blame the judges for low scores or say that it is not fair that Georgia has an overwhelming advantage over us with their depth in their upperclassmen. Instead, we must recognize the mistakes made on our part, which, fortunately can be corrected. Mary Pickford said something to the effect that failure is not the falling down, but the staying down. Though we did fail to accomplish some of our goals, we realize that true failure would be not learning from our mistakes. We had a team meeting to discuss the weekend's meet. Sarah, David and Bryan gave us many areas where they saw that we could improve. Sarah also read some of the comments that were found in the GymTide's chat room. You should understand that the encouragement and ideas that are found in this room provide us with insight in how we are perceived by you, the audience. We take your ideas seriously and concentrate on improving with each competition. There are many positive things that came out of this competition. We competed in front of a full house. Gwen Spidle competed in the all-around for the first time this year. The team had a season high vault score. We are a great team with so much potential. By the end of the season, we will be the team we know we can be. We are heading up north this weekend, to my neck of the woods, to compete against Penn State and the University of Massachusetts. We look forward to meeting these two teams in separate competitions. We are taking some extra luggage with us to these meets. By this, I do not mean extra leotards or wool socks. I mean that we are carrying with us the desire to show these two schools what Alabama Gymnastics is all about.
