Morgan Dennis

PBAs and Salto were in attendance for another GymTide practice this past week and we have a brief report to share with the fans.  Let’s get right to the highlights…

Working primarily on the balance beam and uneven bars after a hectic recruiting weekend, Bama’s freshmen showed significant improvement in hitting various tricky elements and their complete routines are starting to shape up nicely.  Morgan Dennis was consistently hitting the switch leap to straddle side jump combination on this date and the back handspring to layout-layout combination for her flight series.  Morgan was also practicing a punch front and a round off to double tuck dismount onto the soft mats.  On the uneven bars she has shown great improvement in the past few weeks with her two major release moves, the pike Jaeger and the Hindorff.  Fantastic height displayed on the Jaeger especially.  Ricki Lebegern continues to look strong on the beam, throwing a side Somi, back handspring to layout step-out, front aerial and a double twist dismount.  On the bars she practiced the straddle Jaeger, a toe-on straddle release to the high bar and a full in dismount.  Jacqueline Shealy’s uneven bars routine has several front giants, a beautiful Tkatchev and a toe-on straddle release to the high bar. On beam she showcased two different leap series (switch leap to sheep jump, switch leap to side straddle jump), a front aerial and a back handspring to layout step-out.  Kassi Price mainly worked on her Hindorff release and the full twisting double layout dismount on the bars.  On beam Kassi’s side Somi and back handspring to layout step-out skills received lots of reps.  Casey Overton and sophomore Courtney Priess had limited workouts on the uneven bars and mainly did rehab conditioning with the trainers and reps on the bikes.

Brittany Magee

Sophomore Brittany Magee focused much of her workout on the balance beam on this date, trying to regain the timing on her difficult one-handed back handspring to layout step-out series.  Nice front aerial work shown and she has a switch leap to pike jump now for her series.  Britt also worked on the double tuck dismount onto the soft mats.  Amanda Montgomery continued to show nice lines on the uneven bars with her Gienger release and the beam skills looked pretty solid too, including the front walkover to side aerial and the one-handed back handspring to wolf full jump.  Ashley Ford worked vault, bars and beam and was showing nice leap combinations and giants on the bars.  Cassie Martin was perfecting the toe-on toe-off to Tkatchev to pak Salto combination on the bars and her leap series on beam (switch side straddle) had excellent height and extension, toe point.  Ashley O'Neal spent most of her workout on the beam perfecting the punch front and the double front dismount.  She also did some of her double layout reps on the floor.

Junior Terin Humphrey was showing excellent focus during her balance beam reps as she threw the Omeliantchik and the Kotchetkova elements with confidence and flair.  She also was working on the double tuck dismount, standing one up very well near the end of practice.  On bars, the Gienger release and handstands were receiving most of her attention.  Terin also vaulted the Podkopayeava with much improved push off the table and excellent height for this point in the pre-season.

Kaitlin White

Kaitlin White wowed the visitors with her new dismount off the bars, an Arabian double front.  She was consistently getting excellent height and spotted the landing well throughout these reps, missing only one.  It was great to see her enthusiasm over learning and mastering this new skill.  This puts her in a great position to challenge for a regular spot in the bars line-up.  Her beam work included the switch leap to straddle full jump combination, back handspring to layout step-out and a round off to 1 ½ twist dismount.

Senior Erin Rightley worked primarily on the balance beam and has a very nice switch leap-switch leap to pike jump combination down pat.  Lots of reps on the back handspring to layout step-out flight series and the dismount (back handspring to full twist off the side).  Looking good!

Ghosts vs Goblins is one week away (Sunday October 29, 2006) and we hope to see lots of fans in attendance to cheer the ladies during their first official intra-squad.  Roll Tide!
