Practice Report: September 25, 2007
The
GymTide began official practice on September 17, 2007 and we got a
chance to review some of the video from this past Tuesday's workout.
Here are the highlights!
Freshmen
Jennifer Iovino:
The Hill's Angels JO Level 10 standout was working on the uneven bars
(giants, pirouetting, double layout dismount) and the balance beam
(choreography, flight series, double twist dismount). No reps yet observed on the floor or vault.
Kayla Hoffman:
The former Rebound Gymnastics international elite and two-time USA
National Team Member was working really hard on the uneven bars to
perfect her pirouetting and Tkatchev release combination. She
landed several strong double layout dismounts. Her balance beam
choreography and dismount received alot of focus as well from
Coach Patterson. On floor, she threw a nice pike full-in (soft
mats) and moved to a 2 1/2 to punch front on the hard floor. When
she nailed the second pass without taking a step, Coach Bryan Raschilla
teased "You were SO lucky there!", because she had to push hard on that
last element to get it around in time.
Megan Mashburn:
Our new Level 10 walk-on from Hayden's Gymnastics did most of her reps
on the uneven bars (training a Shaposhnikova transition move), balance
beam (flight series: bhs to layout to bhs, double twist dismount) and
floor (trying to perfect a 2 1/2 twist to punch front). Good
effort shown throughout.
Sophomores
Alyssa Chapman: A
few vault timers were observed (Tsuk layout 1/2) and the majority of
her reps were on balance beam (bhs to layout stepout, front aerial to
back tuck) and floor (worked several times on a front to front full
twist to front layout, nice landings each time). Alyssa has a lot
of power with some difficult skills on floor (full in) and beam.
Morgan Dennis:
Worked primarily on double layouts on the soft mats (floor) and is back
to practicing the balance beam flight series of bhs to layout, layout
(looked solid on this date) and her dismount of a round off to double
tuck (stood up easily). On the uneven bars she was working a new
dismount (double layout) and the toe-off straddle release to the high
bar will hopefully be put back into her routine as well.
Ricki Lebegern:
She was working a new release move on the bars (pike Jaeger)
which definitely looked better in terms of amplitude and form compared
to the straddle version she threw this past year. On the floor
she was throwing a pike full in with spotting from Bryan as well as a 2
1/2 twist on her own.
Casey Overton: Very
nice leap series on the balance beam this date, switch leap to
straddle-straddle combination (great amplitude on the latter elements).
Floor pass being perfected was a front to 1 1/2 to barani half (out). She is definitely a twister.
Kassi Price: Returning
for her sophomore year in terrific shape, we immediately noticed her
improved form on the beam and uneven bars. Moves were smoother,
more fluid (especially on the bars). She threw a strong Hindorff,
showed nice pirouetting and very sharp double layout dismount landings
on this date. Balance beam - lots of reps on the front aerial to
back handspring combination (worked alot on keeping her legs fully
extended throughout, with nice results) and the side Somi.
Jacqueline Shealy: Still
rehabbing the ACL injury from the first meet. Recently had
more clean up surgery, so her rehab time has been extended for now.
Will provide updates on her progress as we receive them from the
coaches.
Juniors
Brittany Magee:
During her balance beam reps, a new leap series was observed:
switch leap to pike jump to tuck full jump (nice control). Also,
several timers for a double tuck dismount. On bars - lots of giant
work, pirouetting and gorgeous Tkatchevs, yet still struggling with
regrasp (she really gets major air time on this element).
Cassie Martin: Lots
of reps on the balance beam with one move in particular: the side
aerial. A new leap series: switch leap to split jump 1/2 turn
(showed good consistency with this combo). Switch straddle side
leap and the bhs to layout step-out flight series remain in her
routine, along with the bhs to full twist off the side of the beam
(dismount). On the uneven bars, Cassie is ahead of where she was
last year at this time, throwing the toe-on toe-off to Tkatchev to pak
Salto with pretty good consistency already. She was also working
a new dismount on this date: Arabian double front. We also saw a
few tumbling passes on the soft mats (double front Arabian, with mixed
results).
Amanda Montgomery: Lots of reps on bars and beam, including a double layout dismount and a running 1 1/2 twist dismount respectively.
Ashley O'Neal: Wearing
a brace (off-season knee scoping) she was still showing lots of skills,
including several strong double layouts on the soft mats without
spotting from Bryan. Courtney Priess (retired, now a team
manager) was working with Ashley to incorporate more fluid dance
elements in her beam routine.
Seniors
Terin Humphrey: She
was observed mainly on the balance beam and floor exercise (tumbling
timers mainly). Her balance beam reps were very solid, including
the flight series (full twisting bhs to bhs to layout step-out) and she
also stood up several dismounts of the round off to bhs to double tuck.
Uneven bars dismount being worked on - full twisting double
layout. We may see this for 2008 if the team depth on bars
improves.
Kaitlin White: We
only saw her work through most of her beam routine (punch front,
straddle full jump, switch leap to tuck full jump combination, round
off to double twist dismount). Kaitlin is once again in excellent
shape and looked very focused in her workouts.
