<< Alabama Gymnastics To Face Auburn on the Plains in Regular Season Finale >>
(Friday, March 21, 2003) [ Press Releases: Archives ]

The No. 5 ranked Alabama Gymnastics team will close out the regular season with a trip to Auburn to face the No. 16 Tigers Friday (March 21) at 7 p.m.

Alabama is coming off a narrow loss to Georgia at home while Auburn had last weekend off from competition. The meet marks the Tide's first road trip in a month and the fourth of six meets that will take place within the boundaries of the state of Alabama.

It will be the second meeting between the two schools. Alabama scored a season best 197.975 to better Auburn's 196.600 on March 1 in Tuscaloosa. It was the third highest score in Auburn history.

"This is a big meet for Auburn," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "They feel like they are in a position to challenge us. I have no doubt that they've been pointing to this meet all season long. We are going to have to be very good to beat them down there on their home floor."

Both schools will be using this meet as a tune-up for the Southeastern Conference Championships which will take place March 29 in Birmingham, Ala. at Bartow Arena on the UAB campus.

Alabama comes into the meet sporting two gymnasts that are ranked in the nation's top-20 in the all-around. Junior Jeana Rice is ranked No. 1 in the all-around while senior Kristin Sterner is No. 16. Auburn's top ranked all-around is Kacey Stein at No. 30.
